House in New South Wales
Reasons to book
About this house rental
We are centrally located within the heart of Newcastle, having the vibrant shops and cafés of Darby St, beautiful parks and playgrounds, and several of Newcastle’s golden beaches within a short walking distance.
Cooks Hill Chalets is a French-Provincial style house combining modern and classic style furniture and artwork from all around the world.
There is plenty of space to relax with all 3 bedrooms featuring deluxe queen beds, all finished with 1200 thread count linen.
Sink into the plush leather lounge to enjoy the large LCD screen TV with surround sound, or catch up on world news and sport via Foxtel or Netflix.
You’ll love coming home from a long day at the beach and washing off in our outdoor hot & cold shower, and even using our fully equipped laundry which makes those long stays that little bit easier.
We will supply a high chair and baby cot upon request to make travels with those little ones stress free and enjoyable.
The Petite Chalet offers not just a place to sleep, but a total holiday destination which travellers of all ages will find hard to go past.
Guests will have access to a fully furnished 3 bedroom and 2 bathroom house located in central Newcastle. In the central living space, we offer a fully equipped kitchen with an island bench and breakfast bar, dining room and plush leather lounge.
We are happy to offer early check-in and late check-out if there are no other guests leaving or arriving on the same day. We provide keys via a lock-box on the property itself, so there is no waiting around for someone to arrive to let you in, or having to go to an office to collect keys.
If you need anything else, I can be contacted by phone.
At Cooks Hill Chalets, we believe that the small touches turn a good place into a great one, which is why every guest is supplied with complimentary beach towels for those long days in the sun, umbrellas for when the sun disappears, slippers for hanging around in the house and vanity packs of toiletries.
Our kitchen is fully equipped with the cooking essentials such as sauces and an array of spices, along with cookbooks for the aspiring MasterChef! You can make fresh hot coffee in the morning using the Nespresso machine or wander up to Darby St for a selection of gourmet coffees and cakes.
For those lazy rainy or cold days spent inside, we have a selection of board games and cards to keep everyone in the family well entertained.
Finally, if the Petite Chalet is unavailable for the dates you wish to book, be sure to check out our other properties, the Grande Chalet and the Diamond Chalet.
Living on the same suburb as the Petite Chalet for over 24 years, I can honestly say the area is without equal. Cooks Hill is a heritage area, and the surrounding streets offer a wealth of restaurants, boutique shopping, health and beauty options, together with cultural choices for even the most discerning traveller.
The home is centrally located at 72 Laman St, Cooks Hill.
Walk on flat ground to the beach or the harbour foreshore, shop at world class boutiques, then enjoy dinner and Hunter Valley wines or beers at a local restaurant. Life doesn't get much better than that!
Great Coffee
Little place on the corner of Corlette and Bull St called "Welsh Blacks", literally one block from the Chalet. Otherwise, anywhere on Darby St sells great coffee, including "Baba Yaga” or “House”.
Great Food/Atmosphere (open early to late)
"Goldbergs" hands down. Like a European cafe, great atmosphere and food.
Also, there is a great chocolate restaurant called Coco Monde on Darby St.
For smoothies to die for (including Mars Bar, Cookies and Cream and other weird flavours), try "The Three Monkeys" on Darby St. There are also many excellent restaurants along King St near the Tower Cinemas, including world class gelato.
Grocery Shopping
Marketown shopping centre is only 600m away, containing Coles, Woolworths, Big W, Officeworks and lots of smaller shops.
Boutique Shopping
There are numerous small boutique and designer shops along Darby St.
Larger Shopping Centres
Westfield Kotara (David Jones and a huge number of other stores) and Charlestown Square (Main store is Myer. Also has the Reading Cinemas)
Cinemas
Reading Cinemas are located at Westfield Kotara while Charlestown Square offers Reading Cinemas.
Within walking distance is the recently renovated retro style Tower Cinemas in King St.
Great Walk
Check out the "Anzac Walk" which runs up the cliff from Bar Beach to a lookout, beside Memorial Drive. For the more adventurous, the Glenrock Reserve, only 5km away, offers long walking tracks with beautiful scenery and animals.
Art Galleries & Museums
Take a short walk to the Newcastle Regional Art Gallery, Cooks Hill Galleries or John Earle Gallery, all within a 1km radius of the chalets. Take a walk to the harbour-side suburb of Honeysuckle to visit Newcastle Museum or Newcastle Maritime Museum.
Hunter Valley
Take a wine tasting tour featuring delicious fine wines at the Hunter Valley winery, only a 45 minute drive away.
By rail, the Chalet is best accessed from the Newcastle Interchange then going on the light rail to Civic Station. The home is then a short 3 block walk. It is also two blocks back from Darby St, where numerous the buses travel to surrounding suburbs, John Hunter Hospital, the CBD and the world-class beaches.
