About this villa rental
Situated in Avalon, this attractive villa for $675 per night is a fantastic option for your next vacation. There's a reason all locals tell everybody to stay at Exclusive Hamilton Cove Private Condo complex. This condo is in Building #8, #85. At 1,000sqft, (compare to 400 in hotel) and Way More sq footage than all other 1bdrm Ham Cove units, this villa is particularly spacious and easily accommodates 4 guests. The bedroom has a Super Comfy King bed with high thread count linens. The other guests sleep on a queen sofa sleeper with a thick foam mattress in the living room. This condo is Oceanfront with No Obstructions and you'll feel On Top of the Actual Beach you're so close(see pix). Leave windows or French doors open overnight to hear the waves lap the ocean. The Kitchen has all amenities with a Combination Drip/Kuerig coffeemaker, Large Refrigerator, range/oven, New Non-stick pots and pans, pantry. Everything to feel at home and cook if you want. The BBQ on the balcony is huge and has 2 Propane tanks to ensure you don't run out. We've tried to think of everything! There's a separate bathtub(for kids or if that's your thing) and a separate shower-whatever your needs. With ALL the amenities and security plus private use of a golfcart,private beach and a kitchen, not only can you save from going out, but you can RELAX and stay in! If you do the math and eat just a few meals in, you pay less here than at hotels. The golfcart alone costs $60 an hour in town! And you'll have it to use exclusively throughout your stay. Wake up to serenity, brew coffee(or whatever), eat a lil something lounging on the balcony without having to leave(like a hotel). Drive 10 minutes into Avalon, or Stay here at the private beach, pool, jacuzzi that make Hamilton Cove so Magical. Play tennis,mini golf,croquet,workout,swim, take a jacuzzi,snorkel or drive 5 minutes to super-classy Descanso Beach for kayaking, Stand-Up paddleboard, a massage..or..go to the restaurant/bar for outdoor live music(seasonal) and drinks on the beach!!! See, this vacation is truly what you make of it.From TOTAL relaxation to Full On Hikes,biking, and ALL watersports! Catalina( and Hamilton Cove especially) is so close, but feels miles from home. With your Host managing things, you'll not only have my personal cell, you'll also have my assistant's. Things happen and we are accessible to you. In fact, you are able to go straight to the villa(checkin time or earlier) without filling out oodles of paperwork in town first(like the management companies). And, we are flexible, when able, to allow for early checkin or late checkout( unlike them) Caution renting from Management companies. While we've kept our Rates reasonable, these companies' condo rates have Skyrocketed! And if they seem reasonable, watch out for Exorbitant HOST FEES. We charge what our maids get paid. Also, if there's a problem, you better hope it's during business hours, I got no returned call when I had an emergency over the weekend and was blamed for their cart's problem(on Monday) As hosts, We truly appreciate your booking and want you to have An Excellent Adventure!!! We stayed at HamCove on our recent trip to Avalon and had a great experience within Hamilton cove and exploring the island, It is conveniently located in a gated community with private access to the beach and various activities. We were not able to maximize our stay due to the rain, but got most of it on the days it was clear. Overall a great experience

Beautiful property with amazing views of the ocean. The property was very safe and super quiet for us. The unit had everything we needed. The golf cart was a big plus so that we easily had transportation to get around the island. It was fun putting around with it. Great comminication from our host and a lovely trip!

We had the BEST time. Perfect weather, while coming from different ports all arrived within a half hour of each other and the villa was ready. All directions/suggestion were spot on. We loved waking and sleeping to the sounds of the ocean, getting up to the most beautiful view each day and night. Perfect distance with being able to see deer and the beautiful route to town. Great distance to do things and see things. The host was outstanding and the website was right on. We loved it!!

We had a wonderful stay at Richard's property. Everything was ready when we got there and it looked clean and presentable. The location of the unit was perfect. For those that have trouble going up or down stairs, it may be a little difficult for you but it was great for us! Can't wait to go back and stay longer đź’ś

Great view but hard on the legs due to all the stairs. Unit was in the middle so parking at the bottom wasn't any better than the top area. I did mention to the owner that the bedroom linens were smelly from being left in the washer/dryer while still wet. This speaks to me about the cleaning service. We washed everything in the kitchen before using. A recent rain made patio furniture almost unusable due to soaked cushions. I probably would stay in town next time, same price, more convenient.

I’ve never given a negative review but unfortunately I have to for this experience. We went to the island with two other families who also had rentals at Hamilton Cove. Hamilton Cove is amazing and we’ll be back, but our experience with this rental was very negative. First, the property was not very clean. There was sticky stuff all over the outside deck and the house and furnishings are very dated and didn’t feel cleaned up. There are wires everywhere for old school tv and sound systems. We paid significantly more than our other two friends and their rentals were so much nicer. On top of that, the weekend we booked to stay was when Hurricane Hilary hit Catalina and we were told by officials/the government through iPhone notifications and by the Catalina Express to leave early and ASAP. We had to cut our trip a day short and the owner would not provide any refund for this. We did not buy travel insurance (and the other two friends we went with did not buy travel insurance) but their rental owners provided the refund. This owner did not budge and penalized us for leaving when all news/government outlets told us it was unsafe to stay. We even called VRBO customer service to try and get the refund and they agreed it should be provided and have been reaching out to the owner on our behalf but the owner won’t call or discuss. Definitely would recommend looking for another property at Hamilton Cove and not staying here.

The island is a special place. Coming from the East coast we really didn’t know what to expect. Scenic views everywhere. The golf cart is an absolute plus, it greatly enhanced our trip . The vibe is very laid back . The island grocery store has all your needs . Our ONLY problem was there are no AC units on the property. Most nights a fan and leaving the window open would work. We just happened to go when it was warmer than normal. The eco tour on the back part of the island is recommended . Would go back .

We have stayed at approx 10 different condos in Hamilton Cove over the years. This is the best value with an excellent location. You can hear the ocean at night. Close to the private beach. Far enough from the road to where you are not hearing golf carts all night. We will definitely be back. Host is very accommodating. Unit was very clean and nicely decorated.

Richard’s Villa couldn’t have been more perfect for an amazing stay on Catalina Island. I was very pleased with Richard’s prompt & in-depth communication at all times which made our stay worry-free and very enjoyable! The location is excellent, offering spectacular views! Having the use of the golf cart was definitely a plus and added to the overall experience. And the private cove below the villas was the perfect spot for my granddaughter to try out her snorkeling skills….(This was a Spring Break trip so we wore wet suits & stayed plenty warm). We also enjoyed lounging at the pool. We left with wonderful memories and a happy granddaughter who can’t wait to return.

Keeping in perspective that the unit is on an island so I assume upkeep & updates might be more difficult. It's an older unit that needs a lot of TLC & a possible overhaul from a different touch.
The host, Richard, was very kind, helpful, & communicative. He gave us the privacy I expect when renting, & I appreciate that.
The view is everything, & that is why I booked this particular unit. It's absolutely priceless! Just to note, the balconies are adjoining, so don't expect much privacy. The bed was extremely comfortable, another key aspect I keep at the top of my opinion.
We couldn't get the living room patio & bedroom french doors to lock securely, which made me very uncomfortable. They can easily be pushed open when locked. We had trouble working the TV in the bedroom, but that could have just been user error, & I didn't want to bother the host with TV questions. The bigger living room sofa was extremely uncomfortable to sit on, again, we are on an island, so I don't expect getting furniture there is easy, & especially with all the stairs. But, the electric stove definitely needs to be replaced! The dials just spin, so you have no idea what temperature you are trying to cook at.
I do have expectations when paying $500 a night. Overall, our stay was wonderful. I don't like leaving negative reviews, & I'm very conflicted doing so. I just wanted to be informative & honest. I would stay there again, without a doubt.

The property worked out perfectly for me and my family. Hamilton Cove is gorgeous. The owners clear guidance really took away any guesswork. The use of a personal golf cart is a must for a perfect trip to Catalina. It gave us the freedom to explore Avalon and the surrounding areas in a fun and exciting way. We definitely recommend this villa & we plan to stay here again!

Of course we book our trip during the worst weather in Cali and get stranded in California as Richard ghosted us when the ferries shut down due to severe weather. We had no where to go as we flew from across country and he was not answering our calls and texts. Funny how everyone said he was so responsive because he ignored us the whole time. We paid for so many services and we got nothing! We were all young women in an unfamiliar place so it was very frustrating that the person who we paid thousands of dollars to was ignoring us. He does not care about his clients and only cares about money! Shows what kind of “man” he is and that is a coward!

My husband and I had an amazing time at Mr Gentile's (Rich) condo. I highly recommend! The condo has an amazing view. The complex is quiet and the perfect get away from the crowds in town. Having the golf-cart was an added bonus. Rich was great to communicate with and always responded quickly when needed. He has an assistant in town so for any problems that might arise. Because we had such a good time we are planning on making this a yearly trip and will be staying at Rich's condo again and again.

Hamilton Cove is beautiful and this apartment is sufficiently close to the water that you can hear the waves. Just a couple of flights of stairs and you are on the beach. We particularly appreciated the large number of beach towels and the responsiveness of our host. There were a couple of issues but these were quickly dealt with. For example, the gas ran out for the barbecue and Rich arranged for a new cylinder to be sent round immediately. This is an older part of the complex. The apartments further up the hill - further from the water - are newer and more glamorous. But it was a great location for our family and we would recommend it. The sofa bed is a little aged (as other reviewers have also noted).

The view is amazing and worth the many steps to get to it. We spent most of our time there on the balcony and enjoying the breeze and the view. The included golf cart made trips into town easy and quick. We did have a problem with ants but used the included washer and dryer and just kept all the food in the refrigerator. The included portable A/C unit was perfect at night since it was so humid when we were there. I recommend taking the later boat as storing the luggage and getting to the condo was tedious. It would have been easier to just take a taxi with the luggage all in one trip.

Hamilton cove is great location! Condo is well located.great view! Advanced communication with owner was not good. Condo is very dated. Bring your own Bluetooth speakers as there’s no way to play music. Dirty glasses wash before using anything.

The location and Hamilton cove housing community are amazing ! The views from the condo are out of this world. The condo itself is not worth the nightly rate being charged. It is dirty and old. The sofas are disgusting and the pullout bed in the sofa is beyond disgusting I almost threw up when I pulled it out. There is a severe ant problem (and not in the kitchen ) they are bad in the bathroom and the bedroom. The patio is filthy. The sofas are very old and broken down very uncomfortable. The walls need paint badly. The toilet constantly runs. If this condo was updated with new furnishings and paint it would be worth the nightly rate. I looked into other condos at Hamilton cove in the same building while I was there that were $300 less a night and they were way way nicer than this place. I was informed the golf cart needed brakes but it was safe and the brakes weren’t bad. The brakes on the golf cart are bad and very unsafe. The owner Richard seems very nice and communication with him was good. But it seems he is all in it for the money. At the nightly rate he charges this place should look like a 5 star hotel. And it does not! It’s advertised as sleeping 4 no way because the pullout sofa is disgusting !! I wish I would have found the other condos in this community before I booked with Richard.
