BEAUTIFUL ELK MOUNTAIN RANCH ADJOINS OVER 2 MILLION ACRES OF NATIONAL FOREST!
About this house rental
Situated in Kootenai County, this attractive house for $475 per night is a fantastic option for your next vacation. This magnificent and spacious home has 6 bedrooms and 3 1/2 baths. The unique setting of this home is at the confluence of two streams and surrounded by pristine natural beauty to stir your heart. Like a painting come to life with romantic rock bridges, quaint stone steps and walls, lush pastures, fruit trees, flowers and jade-green ponds; this is a dream come true! This enchanting home is located at the gateway into the vast National Forest. This 150 Acre ranch is surrounded on three sides by U.S. Forest land; 2 1/2 Million Acres extending to Montana and Canada! There are deer, elk, moose, bear, wolves, bald eagles, wild turkeys, and ermine on or visiting this ranch; and we have maintained the property as a wildlife preserve. There are no visible neighbors and this is a place of serenity, peace and complete quiet except for nature! The two streams are Marie Creek, which has high water in the Spring and early summer, along with several large pools of water and log waterfalls into mid-July. By early to mid-August, Marie Creek goes underground by the ranch. It continues to run above the ranch in the National Forest. Searchlight Creek runs the north-south length of the ranch and in front of the house. Searchlight Creek runs year round and is a perfect creek for children to play in the creek and the pools. Home is 4,000 S.F with 6 Bedrooms, 3 1/2 baths, 2 Stone Fireplaces and a great Western Decor! Elk Mountain Ranch was homesteaded in 1908 and the Deed is signed by President Theodore Roosevelt, on display at ranch. The center of the current house was built in 1930, and retains much of the charm of that time period. The later additions are very western and rustic. This family ranch was offered as a Vacation Rental beginning May 1, 2014 for the first time. The furnishings and décor are that of a high quality, Western motif reflective of the love we have for this beautiful ranch. The ranch is 150 acres with access into the National Forest. You can pan for gold in the creek! We now have a fire pit and provide firewood for your use! You can bring your Mountain Bikes, ATV's, Snowmobiles or Cross Country Skis and stay for a fun-filled vacation summer or winter! We do provide sleds for our awesome sledding hill and snowshoes to use on the ranch or into the adjacent National Forest land. We now have 2 full size Tipis, beautifully hand painted with native designs which are great for photos, overnight sleeping, for children to play inside or for quiet meditation. Elk Mountain Ranch is also a private trout hatchery comprised of three separate spring-fed ponds where they are raised from fingerlings to full size adult trout which in turn, spawn, and continue the cycle. We provide trout food for our guests for which the trout which put on a spectacular show! We allow absolutely no fishing on the ranch and breaking this rule will forfeit one's damage deposit. Only the bald eagles and osprey fish unhindered; and we want our guests to enjoy all this majesty of nature.

We went on a hike that started right on the property. We enjoyed feeding the fish in the ponds. We were all looking forward to seeing the property based on the description, but were amazed to find it so much more spectacular than we imagined.
The house is a treasure trove of amenities, the grounds were an adventure to explore.
Communication with the hosts was great, they helped us find a place to take the kids fishing

Our group of 16 had the best time camping out under the stars! If you LOVE the outdoors, and nature, we highly recommend this secluded private retreat space. The pine covered mountains took our breath away. The hosts were unbelievable with how wonderful, accommodating and kind they were. The house is so quirky and fun, and you will have a great time looking at all the history and art all over the ways and cabinets. The house is SUPER well stocked. think dooms day prepared. They have a giant pantry with extra lights and flour and really this house held our group very very well. We set up across the bridge for camping under the stars and daily meditation and Yoga. Bathrooms were clean and lots of hot water kept us fresh. Lots of extra blankets and towels and extra jackets to cozy up to when it was chilly at night. We are looking forward to making this an annual thing with the group, the property is really super spectacular! easy drive from Spokane. Thank you again for the space!

Thank you so much!!
This by far has been the most enjoyable of all of the VRBO places we have stayed.

You wont be sorry you booked this stay. Elk Mountain Ranch offers so many fantastic recreational opportunities and great amenities. My family went up for a weekend getaway to bike the Hiawatha and see the sites around Coeur d’alene. Located just outside of town, the house offered privacy in mountains and a quick and beautiful trip into town. The Ranch its self has something for everyone, there are trails, tee pee’s, water, firepit, play rooms and so much more! I don't want to spoil all the pleasant surprises that await you if you book. This place was fantastic and we will most certainly be back. Appreciate the hospitality Mike and Susan.

Elk Mountain Ranch is a beautiful, rustic property that everyone in our group enjoyed. We hiked the equine trail behind the house each morning, made several meals in the well-stocked kitchen and played yard games and sat around the fire at night. The owners are friendly and communicative.
A couple of things to be aware of: the wifi is spotty so if you need to work at all (which a couple of us did) it's unlikely you'd be able to do so here. Also, it was hot during our stay so we weren't able to use the bedroom in the crows nest (way up high) as it didn't cool down until way past bedtime.
Overall, it's a gorgeous property that I'd recommend for a family or group of friends looking to get away from it all.

Susan and Mike were the most wonderful gracious communicative hosts! It was SUCH a cool property and a totally unique experience, especially since most of our group had never visited the PNW! Having coffee out by the firepit with the sunrise was one of my favorite parts. Everything we needed was there, it’s close enough to downtown Coeur D’Alene yet far enough out that you really are in nature, and now having planned this bachelorette trip for my friend, I want to go back with my own family and some other family friends! Highly highly recommend!

Elk mountain ranch was one of the best places we had stayed. Owner Mike and Susan met us and gave us a tour of the home and property! It was truly beautiful and peaceful. Our grandkids ages 6 months, 2 and 11 love playing in the creek, playing dress up, and eating s’mores. We were grieving the lost of our wife, mother and daughter in law and it provided the needed healing! Mike and Susan went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed! Can’t wait to go back.

Great place for people who all work forty plus hours a week to get away to peace and quiet. We enjoyed feeding the trout. Property is laid out so you can be as together or apart as you want to be. Close enough to town so you can drive to pick up anything you forgot, but you won't need to do that, this place has everything. We had an awesome time and we will be back.

Elk Mountain Ranch was the perfect place for our family get-together. Plenty of room inside and outside to connect and enjoy. I have never seen a house this large be this clean, it was amazing! The weather had just turned cooler and the furnace warmed up the house so fast, even my 92 year old mom was warm. Not to mention the fire in the fireplace kept everything cozy and welcoming. We would definitely return. Mike and Susan are exceptional hosts, they go above and beyond to make their guests feel welcome, thank you!!

The house itself was so much fun to walk through and explore! It just kept on going! So much history within the house too and the rooms were great, a couple huge showers. The owners also have so much for kids to do, a play room with plenty of toys, a closet full of awesome dress up costumes and the ponds were a great hit! We just finished visiting at the end of September, so one creak was dried up from over summer, but it didn't take away from any bit of the experience! Fire pit was perfect for a gathering outside! We didn't use much of the back side of the property, but it also would have been beautiful and peaceful or good for outside eating.
We loved our experience!

We really enjoyed our stay here while visiting for a local family wedding. Wished we had more time to relax at the originally and woodsy decorated cabin and walk the forest trails. The cabin was well stocked, beds were very comfortable and plenty of rooms and nooks to sneak away for some quiet time and games, etc for entertainment. Owners were readily available and communicative when necessary. Instructions were easy and thorough. Thank you for sharing this rustic treasure!

We all had such a fantastic time on the property. The kids loved feeding the trout and roasting marshmallows in the evening. My husband and older three kids loved, loved the shooting range!! The younger two loved all the toys in the Indian room. My husband also loved your smoker. We brought a brisket with us to do for dinner one night. It turned out so amazing! We all loved it so much, when got back home, my husband bought a traeger smoker!! We enjoyed fishing the North fork of the Coeur d'Alene River. We all caught fish!! The hosts were fantastic, great communication, the house was very clean and had everything we needed. We will be back for sure!!

Incredibly beautiful location
We had three generations staying for five days. Our grandkids rated it as best ever. For the grandparents the stairs were an issue but we loved it. The photos do not do the grounds justice. There are creeks and ponds, trout to feed, a teepee for the kids and even a boat to use in one of the ponds.
