Beautiful home on top of a quiet mountain top. Was able to see the clouds roll in and hear the birds in the treetops. What a perfect way to end our trip in Costa Rica, close the airport, yet far enough away that it made you feel like you escaped the city. Just breathtaking!

Our previous trips to Costa Rica had been adventure-packed, and we had decided ahead of time that all we wanted to do on this trip was relax during our two-week stay. As soon as we stepped foot on this property, we knew we had made the perfect choice to fulfill our goal. The views throughout the property were nothing short of magnificent; the scenery surrounding the villa is absolutely stunning. We purposely had chosen to come during the rainy season when perfect sunny mornings give way to afternoon winds and storms. My husband's favorite time of day was waiting for the mists and clouds to roll in, signalling the change of weather. Except for one overnight side trip to Tabacon Thermal Springs Resort halfway through our trip, we never left Atenas during our stay. In fact, we never left the villa except to take our daily 2-4 mile morning walk, to dine out at restaurants, and to pick up essentials in town. I can't imagine a more perfect place to unwind and revel in the natural beauty that Costa Rica so abundantly offers.

We could not have been happier with our stay in Pica Flora at Joes place. The property is so beautiful and private. We saw Toucans on the property as well as a variety of other birds and a couple of iguanas. Everything was perfect and Elias the caretaker was just a joy to work with and Joe the owner was very responsive. We had any and everything we could have needed and felt like we were at a private resort just for us. We have stayed at a lot of different properties and had many wonderful experiences but this property has to be my favorite. We can’t wait to be back and are already making plans to return early next year.

We thoroughly enjoyed staying in this relaxing home in the hills above Atenas. The home is beautifully decorated with high-quality furniture and bedding. The kitchen is well-equipped and large. The pool was lovely and we utilized the hot tub each night. The town of Atenas is fairly quiet, which might be what you're looking for in a location. The drive to popular destinations such as Manuel Antonio or Monteverde takes at least 3 hours due to traffic, so pack your patience!
I and my family would love to come back and stay at this beautiful home again some day.

If you take the time to read through each one of the 100+ five star reviews, mine will sound the same. It truly is better than the pictures even show and communication was excellent. Joe and Elias are so responsive when we needed anything. We rented a car and drove to different places each day including El Toledo Coffee farm, Tucsn Rescue Ranch, La Paz Waterfall & Gardens, Jaco and Esterello Beach. Our family stayed here for seven days and none of us were ready to leave. We truly cannot wait to come back. The views, the birds, the weather….absolutely incredible. If you are at all on the fence about whether to stay here, DO IT! 😉

My significant other, as well as another couple, traveled to Costa Rica for my birthday. We enjoyed every minute of our stay at this villa. The views were beautiful, the villa was beautiful, and the caretaker, Elias was there to answer any questions that we had. We had a chef that the owner recommended cook dinner for us our last night at the villa. The food and his service were top-notch.

My partner and I had an incredible stay here. Somehow, this rental is even more beautiful than the photos! We swam in the pool, relaxed in the hot tub, grilled, watched the sun rise and set, got to know the resident iguana and other flora and fauna - it was wonderful. This vrbo is also perfectly situated to drive to the beach (an hour away) or cloud forests (1.5-2.5 hours away). Elias the property manager was so kind to us and gave us great recommendations. We want to come back!!

There is no doubt this house will give piece of heaven and pamper you! It’s gorgeous with wooden design ….one thing though the house has screen in every rooms but leave space between so we found unexpected guests like lizard, some worm and surprisingly scorpion. The house is located on top of the hill and it’s was windy so they kind all fall and found the way into the room. The house has a beautiful kitchen but you might want to bring your own seasonings as we bought sugars, salt some spices.

We had a wonderful, relaxing 6 night stay in this beautiful home. As other reviewers have noted, the pictures do not do it justice. We enjoyed beautiful views and perfect weather. My husband and I were looking for a place to relax and decompress for a week and this was the perfect place. Close enough to town to run in for a meal or groceries, but set in a very private, quiet location. We hope to return again.

What a lovely property! We had everything one needs here, as well as comfort and beauty; the pool was fabulous and big enough to actually swim lengths. The jacuzzi was also perfect, and a luxurious end to a good swim or long day!
All the landscaping is lush and so varried and interesting as well.
Elias, the wonderful resident maintainer of Villa Tamarindo, is so kind and helpful! He helped us out several times with problems or questions, always with patience, kindness, and efficiency! Thank you again for the time we could spend here!!

This Villa is perfect for any type of getaway. We wish we could have stayed longer! We stayed at the end of August, even during rainy season, everything was perfect.
The parrots and many types of birds wake you early each morning and you don't even mind because it is such a beautiful sound. We were able to take many day trips before the rain would start around 2 pm each afternoon.

Magical Place in the Mountains
I was lost for words when I checked in. Elias was there to greet us and show us the property. Pictures do not do this place justice! Although Elias lives on the property, we never felt like we did not have privacy. We hired a chef to come for a few days and i HIGHLY recommend doing this even if its just for one day. The chef is friends with Elias and his name is Bellisario. He was 10/10!!

Amazing Property 👏
We truly enjoyed the peaceful and scenic surroundings. We had planned to visit more places during our stay but opted to simply enjoy the view, the pool and gardens. At night we enjoyed dinner and wine at the outdoor table and pavilion. We saw the sun set and a few shooting stars too!

Month Visit In Paradise
Our month long stay in Villa Tamarindo was one of the most enjoyable of our 4 visits to Costa Rica. The three Bali-style buildings and central pool make it feel more like a spa or luxury resort, but without the people. The complete privacy and quiet was especially appreciated, yet the availability of Elias and Valeria on the grounds was also nice for security and to handle any issues, which were few. They keep the house spotless and the grounds beautiful. The views are spectacular. The well-maintained hot tub was one of our favourite retreats after a swim in the crystal clear saltwater pool, with no “chemical” feeling about either one. The kitchen is well stocked with everything you need including bonus insta-pot, coffee grinder, milk frother, etc. There is no TV, but that's a bonus, no distractions from the beautiful surroundings, and besides, the internet connection is great so you can always catch up on the outside world if you really must.There are plenty of good restaurants in Atenas, or within a short picturesque drive. We loved the town, which is clean and relatively quiet for a Latin American town. Most of all we love the famous 85/70 degree all year round climate. Our interactions with Joe on logistic and financial aspects were always efficient and courteous. Highly recommended.

A truly wonderful experience
It's hard to know where to start listing all the positives. This place is exactly as dreamy as it looks, if not more so. It is clean and well-maintained and the views never stop in any direction you turn. We stayed there 2 weeks and on the last day, I was just as moved by the magic of the place as I was the day I arrived. Joe is a very helpful host. Elias is onsite and available to help with anything, although we were pretty self-sufficient and appreciated that he just left us alone to do our thing. We felt like we had total privacy. It is a meditative place and I appreciated not having TVs. Every detail of the design of the buildings and pool seems extremely thoughtful. The kitchen appliances and amenities are very nice. You are only a short, easy (maybe 8 minute?) drive from Atenas and the Coop grocery has all you need, but there are some cute restaurants that we really enjoyed as well. Easy daytrips to the beach, to the national parks, etc. Longer day trips also possible. It's a great central location for many kinds of activities around Costa Rica. Covid Note: hand washing, mask-compliance and general respect seemed the norm throughout the places we visited in Costa Rica. If you are headed back to the US, it's very easy/convenient to get a test at the airport.

We stayed at this home 9 years ago and were sure it would measure up to the amazing memories we had from that visit. It did! The property is amazingly maintained and so very comfortable. Ellias was there to greet us and get us settled. The location is perfectly close to town but far enough away for quiet and privacy. We will return!

Heaven on earth
This is the second time we've started at this property, and it's a little slice of heaven with gorgeous views, architecture, gardens, pool, gazebo, it's just LOVELY. This is the kind of place you WISH you cutie vacation and/or live... And which convinced is we want to retire to Costa Rica. On this trip we got very close to buying a house 3 doors up!
ATENAS is a great central location from which to lead out to many different Costa Rican adventures, the house is under half an hour from the airport and San Jose.
If you're trying to decide between several VRBOs, PICK THIS ONE.

I am so happy to confirm that all the reviews are legitimate and still accurate. We were looking for a quiet and relaxing place to unwind and VT delivered. The property is very well maintained, properly fumigated and super clean; which we imagine is not the easiest task in Costa Rica. The nearby town of Atenas offers multiple grocery stores and restaurants, but we opted to cook most of our meals in the well equipped kitchen. Elias, the property manager, is friendly and reliable, available whenever we had questions. We enjoyed many happy hours sitting by and swimming in the salt water pool and relaxing in the spa. We also went for long and relaxing walks around the neighborhood. Overall stunning location and beautiful property. It allowed us to enjoy "the best climate in the world" according to National Geographic and Conde Nast Traveler. Highly recommend if you are looking for a destination spot to unwind, relax and take in the beauty of Costa Rica. (Plus it is only about half an hour drive to SJO airport). Thank you Joe for a restorative stay, we look forward to returning one day soon!

We would go back again
It was like having our own 2 bedroom resort. The pool was fantastic and bigger than it looks in the listing. We spend many days just hanging out by the pool and bbqing. Wifi was strong and the nearby town was safe.

Fabulous Stay
As folks who have stayed in vacation rentals all over the world, this is quite possibly the best VRBO we’ve ever visited. Elias is a fabulous person and a great property manager. Awesome stay for our family that ranged from 76 to 5 years of age. The pool and hot tub are a win for everyone, and the area is so secluded and quiet. The stars at night are amazing. Just a great spot.

Mountain top paradise
We wanted to move in. The pictures don’t do justice for how beautiful this house is. We will definitely rent again. The town had plenty of restaurants and our children loved swimming in the pool. The caretaker went above and beyond helping us out when we realized we left our passports behind in the safe. I highly recommend this property.

Stunning!
Our famqily of 5 (3 teens) were blown qaqwaqy by the beauty of the house anqd grounds, qanqd the jqaqw-dropping view! The owner wasq responsive and informaqtqie qahqeaqd of our stayq, answering my many questions. And the caretaker on the property was responsive and available for all of our needs. We did day trips to monteverde and the Doka coffee plantation - both well worth it. We also enjoyed the Friday morning farmers market. A beautiful property, and easy to get to and from the airport in San Jose.
