About this cottage rental

Situated in Nova Scotia, this attractive cottage for $160 per night is a fantastic option for your next vacation. A lovely cottage on three acres of meadow and forest in the extraordinary Aspy Bay region of Cape Breton. The house offers serene, panoramic views of South Harbour, South Mountain and the ridge of mountains that extend to Money Point, the island's easternmost cape. The cottage, with two comfortable bedrooms, an airy screened porch and a large common room filled with light and water views, is tucked among birch trees at the end of a point, surrounded on three sides by water. It comes equipped with two classic Old Town canoes, awaiting at shoreline. The property is a few minutes drive from the Cabot Trail and a short hop from White Point, Dingwall and the incredible South Harbour Beach. From the cottage you can paddle across the harbor to the beach, or simply loll around fishing for stripped bass as the bald eagles fly overhead. By mid July the point is thick with blueberries. From here you can easily reach all the wonders of outer Cape Breton, from whale watching at Bay St. Lawrence and Meat Cove to day tripping over to Cheticamp and the incredible salmon fishing in the Margaree River. Several of the towns nearby--Cape North, Neil's Harbour, Ingonish--have a variety of fun dining options. Nearby rivers offer topnotch fly fishing, cliff jumping and fresh-water swimming. There are trails that an entire summer couldn't get to the end of. The house--available from mid May till the end of October--is perfect for one or two couples, a family of four, or for anyone seeking solitude and calm. Springs come late to Cape Breton, but the summers stay long. So May can be chilly and the trees still largely leafless, while the summer can easily linger well into September. Similarly, the ocean waters are jarringly cold in early June but get far balmier by late July than the waters off Maine or even Cape Cod. Swimming is easy well past August. The house has a fully stocked kitchen as well as a dining area and living room, though summers are spent mostly on the porch. The front bedroom has a queen bed and the back has three twins. There's a full bathroom, but for the adventurous, there is also an enclosed outdoor shower with a fine view of the harbour. The house is snug when it's chilly and is fully equipped with topnotch WiFi, as well as washer and dryer. But no, there is not a television, and you wouldn't want to look at one anyway.

absolutely beautiful. The cottage is charming, inside and out, and its location down a long private drive on the harbour exemplifies serenity. Canoes available for use. Close to many magical trails and ocean escapes. Perfect.

Cottage views and location is wonderful. Simple inside but everything you need. We were blessed with great weather for 8 days, which locals told us was unusual. Looking at that lake, trees, mountains, eagles, etc. every morning was magical.

This place is amazing. It seems like we often like the places we rent but never enough to want to go back, but by the second day here we were already planning our next trip to this cabin. The location is truly remarkable- on a quiet bay, just a few feet from the water, with stunning views toward the Aspy faultline's low mountains to the north and the ocean and coastline to the east. While we were there 5 bald eagles were residing in the trees across a short bit of water and we had an unparalleled view as they fished in the bay. It's quite close to the Cabot Trail, and close to two small grocery stores and several restaurants, as well as the remarkably scenery of Cape Breton Highlands. Neil was a very responsive, helpful, and flexible host. The cabin itself was wonderfully comfortable and we greatly looked forward to spending time there in the evenings after our adventures. We'll definitely be back!

We loved this gem of a find. We used this house as our jumping off point in Cape Breton and couldn't be happier with our choice. The house itself is quaint, well stocked, and perfectly situated on the water. The sunsets were amazing, and I spent all my free time time on the enclosed patio watching the wildlife all around me. I LOVED that there was no TV. During the rainy afternoon, our family played games and enjoyed just being together. The lack of media made the house and time there even more peaceful. Neil is amazing. He contacted us well before our stay with information about the house and activities, food, and other useful information. He responded quickly and was so helpful. His tips on where to hike and eat were great. My only complaint about the house were the really hard beds. I have back issues and found it difficult to get good sleep. All in all, I would highly recommend this rental. I would definitely stay here again (firm mattress included).
