Cottage surrounded by splendor
About this cottage rental
Situated in Nova Scotia, this attractive cottage for $160 per night is a fantastic option for your next vacation. A lovely cottage on three acres of meadow and forest in the extraordinary Aspy Bay region of Cape Breton. The house offers serene, panoramic views of South Harbour, South Mountain and the ridge of mountains that extend to Money Point, the island's easternmost cape. The cottage, with two comfortable bedrooms, an airy screened porch and a large common room filled with light and water views, is tucked among birch trees at the end of a point, surrounded on three sides by water. It comes equipped with two classic Old Town canoes, awaiting at shoreline. The property is a few minutes drive from the Cabot Trail and a short hop from White Point, Dingwall and the incredible South Harbour Beach. From the cottage you can paddle across the harbor to the beach, or simply loll around fishing for stripped bass as the bald eagles fly overhead. By mid July the point is thick with blueberries. From here you can easily reach all the wonders of outer Cape Breton, from whale watching at Bay St. Lawrence and Meat Cove to day tripping over to Cheticamp and the incredible salmon fishing in the Margaree River. Several of the towns nearby--Cape North, Neil's Harbour, Ingonish--have a variety of fun dining options. Nearby rivers offer topnotch fly fishing, cliff jumping and fresh-water swimming. There are trails that an entire summer couldn't get to the end of. The house--available from mid May till the end of October--is perfect for one or two couples, a family of four, or for anyone seeking solitude and calm. Springs come late to Cape Breton, but the summers stay long. So May can be chilly and the trees still largely leafless, while the summer can easily linger well into September. Similarly, the ocean waters are jarringly cold in early June but get far balmier by late July than the waters off Maine or even Cape Cod. Swimming is easy well past August. The house has a fully stocked kitchen as well as a dining area and living room, though summers are spent mostly on the porch. The front bedroom has a queen bed and the back has three twins. There's a full bathroom, but for the adventurous, there is also an enclosed outdoor shower with a fine view of the harbour. The house is snug when it's chilly and is fully equipped with topnotch WiFi, as well as washer and dryer. But no, there is not a television, and you wouldn't want to look at one anyway.

absolutely beautiful. The cottage is charming, inside and out, and its location down a long private drive on the harbour exemplifies serenity. Canoes available for use. Close to many magical trails and ocean escapes. Perfect.

This setting is unbelievably beautiful! Quiet, private, small secluded cabin on the shore with canoes. Screened porch. Great communication, easy access, very clean. You won’t want to leave!

Cottage views and location is wonderful. Simple inside but everything you need. We were blessed with great weather for 8 days, which locals told us was unusual. Looking at that lake, trees, mountains, eagles, etc. every morning was magical.

This place is amazing. It seems like we often like the places we rent but never enough to want to go back, but by the second day here we were already planning our next trip to this cabin. The location is truly remarkable- on a quiet bay, just a few feet from the water, with stunning views toward the Aspy faultline's low mountains to the north and the ocean and coastline to the east. While we were there 5 bald eagles were residing in the trees across a short bit of water and we had an unparalleled view as they fished in the bay. It's quite close to the Cabot Trail, and close to two small grocery stores and several restaurants, as well as the remarkably scenery of Cape Breton Highlands. Neil was a very responsive, helpful, and flexible host. The cabin itself was wonderfully comfortable and we greatly looked forward to spending time there in the evenings after our adventures. We'll definitely be back!

We loved this gem of a find. We used this house as our jumping off point in Cape Breton and couldn't be happier with our choice. The house itself is quaint, well stocked, and perfectly situated on the water. The sunsets were amazing, and I spent all my free time time on the enclosed patio watching the wildlife all around me. I LOVED that there was no TV. During the rainy afternoon, our family played games and enjoyed just being together. The lack of media made the house and time there even more peaceful.
Neil is amazing. He contacted us well before our stay with information about the house and activities, food, and other useful information. He responded quickly and was so helpful. His tips on where to hike and eat were great.
My only complaint about the house were the really hard beds. I have back issues and found it difficult to get good sleep.
All in all, I would highly recommend this rental. I would definitely stay here again (firm mattress included).

The cottage is in a beautiful peaceful location. The kitchen is very well equipped. Sadly due to loss of power after hurricane Fiona we could only check in 2 days later than planned. Would have loved to have the full 4 days as planned instead of just 2. If you don’t want to cook the Cabot Trail Food Market does excellent breakfast bagels & also take-out dinners. Neil is a very helpful host and responds quickly to messages.

We were already planning a return visit within ten minutes of arriving. What a breathtaking location and a perfect little cottage. Host provided so much helpful info. The sunsets and sunrises were nothing short of gorgeous. Well equipped kitchen and the outdoor shower was an unexpected treat. Just perfect!

Serene. Idyllic. Picturesque. A great base to explore northern Cape Breton Island. Would we go back? Yes, in a heartbeat. Would we change anything? Yes, we’d stay longer.

We booked this cottage as a base for cycling for a few days and we weren't disappointed - the cycling was fantastic. But everything else was sublime - the location of the cottage is simply magical, especially at dawn and dusk, and the host has provided everything to make for a perfect holiday experience.

Just doesn’t get any better than this!!
Very well stocked and comfortable cottage.
What a treat it was to canoe out to a very beautiful (like private) 2.5 km beach to walk and beachcomb the morning away.
The most beautiful sunrises from the cottage screened in veranda.
Our family absolutely loved this place!!!!
We discovered high quality places in which to dine as well - Danena’s Bakery and Bistro. and the Landmark being just a couple.
If you’re planning a trip to Cape Breton to ‘get away from it all’ - this property is a must rental - it doesn’t get any better!!

Nice cottage in a great location!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the cottage. It is quiet and private with all the basic amenities you need. We canoed and fished (both provided) and loved the lake. There are many beautiful beaches close to the cottage (highly recommend Black Brook Beach) and even more hiking trails. The location is ideal! There is a nice little library and some games that we took advantage of on a rainy evening (we added a game to the collection). Neil was excellent and provided a lot of information and tips.

A lovely location to enjoy so many off the beaten path treasures Cape Breton has to offer. The cottage is absolutely lovely and offers a calm, private location to relax.

An absolutely lovely cottage in a heavenly location.
All the positive reviews about this place are absolutely true. This is a quiet, idyllic retreat and we were reluctant to leave. Neil is a responsive host and supplies a detailed guide to the area. We enjoyed numerous hiking trails, some beaches, a few excellent restaurants with live music, and very friendly Canadians. Calm and less touristy than West Coast, with easy access to it and other areas of the island. Highly recommended.

Staying at this cottage is like dropping in on an old friend…everything just fits. Sunsets and sunrises made our hearts sing; the nightly frog chorus sent us to sleep with a smile. We loved the closeness of the harbour; the walks and drives; the meals - both at local eateries and from our own kitchen; sitting quietly watching nature go about her business. You will be well looked after both by Neil, the host, and his right hand man, Myles. If you are looking for a Cape Breton retreat book now!

An idyllic vacation spot
This cabin was much more than we expected. It was charming, quiet, beautiful, homey and in the perfect location for our vacation. The owner provided a wonderful guide to the home itself and the surrounding area. He was also incredibly patient and understanding as we struggled with COVID rules. I can't imagine a better place to call home while visiting Cape Breton.

We stayed a week at this precious place. One could just sit and look all day (which we did) and have a fantastic day. Eagles, herons, fish and astounding scenery. The home was perfect for the three of us. Really appreciated the screened porch and the mixer (we had a birthday cake to make). Easy to access some truly magnificent hikes, too. Neil's guide (14 pages) is an awesome perc!

Cape Breton getaway
A gorgeous private spot in a remote location surrounded by nature. The screened in porch was a beautiful spot to watch the cove and the sky and eagles. The place is very clean and tidy with easy access to many golden places along the Cabot Trail - my husband enjoyed canoeing in the cove and we explored many beaches, hikes, and local attractions. Thank you for sharing this beautiful spot!

A wonderful retreat
This property is one of my favourites. It was comfortable, well equipped and and excellent location for hiking the trails. It is situated so the view of the bay is stunning. I was able to watch the sun come up and the sun go down as I had my meal. It was an inviting and relaxing spot to return to at the end of my day.

Quiet, beautiful spot! Friendly area. We enjoyed sunrises, canoeing, and puzzles. We really appreciated the home feeling, with lots of books, games, and everything one would need. Bed was a little hard, could use a foam topper. We had a small problem with a doorknob malfunction, but Neil got it taken care of right away. We'll do this one again!

What a wonderful place!
We had a great stay at this beautiful cottage. Our only regret is that we could not stay longer! The cottage is clean, comfortable and nicely furnished. We appreciated having the canoes available and the harbor is a lovely place to paddle around. The views from the home are just amazing. There are many wonderful hiking trails within a short drive and spectacular scenery everywhere. We loved Cape Breton and can't wait to return. Neil was a great host and responded quickly to any questions that we had.

Another Wonderful Week in Dingwall Cottage
Second annual week at Cottage was just as I remembered from 2018. Blueberries, Great Blue Heron, Eagles and Mergansers in a beautiful setting. Cottage itself is very well organized and relaxing especially the Outdoor Shower. We hiked Skyline, The Bog, Middle Head and Cabot Landing Provincial Park with its 3.5 km of beach! A minor unexpected glitch when we arrived, was handled quickly by Property Manager. Already considering a return visit in 2020!

Even better in reality
The photos online do not capture the absolute beauty of the property or the canny design of the cottage itself. From the master bed, you can see the sunrise. From the main room, the windows from the Aspy Mountains with SugarLoaf easily identifiable. The cottage is comprised of clean lines that allow the focus to be on the people within and the beauty without. My kids declared it was perfect. I spent large amounts of time standing with my nose to a wall looking at one of the amazing maps.
Practically, the kitchen had everything we needed and the open shelves were easy to access. The screened in porch was perfect and the outdoor shower a hit with my teenager.
Neil put together a guide for the cottage and area that is comprehensive. We have been in the area several times before and his advice on what to see, do, eat is spot on. The property is wonderfully located for hiking (we did 30 km in 3 days including 2 hikes with 400m ascents) or unwinding on the best beach in Cape Breton.
I wish we could have stayed longer but, sadly, we had to return to work and school.

Picturesque cottage in the perfect location
The serene surrounding makes this cottage a perfect place to get away from life in the city, and the open concept layout offers great waterfront views of the bay. Lots of natural lighting with sea breeze from the bay throughout the day.
The direct water access is great for quick canoe trips to small islands in the bay where you will find various sea critters. The cottage also offers great privacy where you felt like you were along on the bay!

Charming summer cottage in fantastic natural setting
Wow, what a beautiful summer cottage in a fantastic natural setting! Clean, quiet and comfortable, with all the amenities we needed; charming yet well-planned space to maximize privacy while plenty of windows allow all the fresh air and natural light to flow right in. The stunning views of the water and surrounding mountains had our full attention the whole week. We agreed that this is one of the best places we've ever rented... truly a special, memorable place. We thank our host for the experience!

The property was just as pictured and described. A true retreat and gem! On one particularly rainy day we must have played 30 games of sorry. Would recommend the co-op for groceries. I miss watching the Kingfishers and goslings. Sleep on the screened in porch for some extra fun!

Bright and cosy cottage with great views across the water to the mountain. Loved watching the way the view changed with the light and the wind. Very well equipped plus canoes and beach chairs.
