TRUE RENTAL BY OWNER- NOT A LINK TO PROPERTY MANAGEMENT COMPANY- What The Shell is a (Sun/Sun) vacation rental nearly ocean front to Frisco's south beach area and one of the best one lot back for the value. The vacant adjacent lot provides an unobstructed oceanfront view throughout the house. Along with perfect location, it has all the amenities to provide the perfect relaxation retreat after long days of Hatteras Island activities. What the Shell has a private pool with expanded shallow end great for little ones or sun bathing, 8 ppl hot tub on 2nd level ocean view deck and at most a 50yd walk to the beach. The outside area has under house parking, fish cleaning station, footwash and hot/cold enclosed shower. All weather entry gives access to 1st floor. The first floor has an extra large bedroom suite with a queen bed, futon and large TV/DVD/VCR. Also a mini kitchen that includes full refrig. dishwasher, sink, microwave, coffee pot and utensils. A full bath/shower makes it an ideal second master for small family, grandparents or teens. The second floor has a master bedroom with ocean view, flat screen TV/DVD, slider to hot tub and private custom tile bathroom with dual shower. Across the hall is a Queen with ocean view, LCD TV/DVD and double sinked bathroom with full tub/shower that adjoins bunk room. Bunkroom has two bunk sets, LCD TV/DVD/PlayStation2 and books. There is a common hallway to all 2nd floor bedrooms that provides additional access to 2nd floor deck with hot tub. The upstairs living area has a half bath with washer/dryer for convenience. The expansive open Great Room has laminate hardwood floors and spectacular ocean views from nearly every window. New furnishings with large flat screen, DVD, stereo and plenty of books provide relaxing entertainment after a long day at beach. The dinner table located near slider provides dining with ocean view. The large kitchen has a long breakfast bar with Corian countertops and is overstocked with utensils for the best cooks. The furnished upper level deck with sunbathing chairs and cover table area provides hours of beautiful ocean views and star filled moonlit night skies. Our family of 10 enjoyed our stay at What the shell. Anne was very responsive and kept in contact to make sure everything was okay. The home provides plenty of space inside and out for everyone to enjoy their space alone or together. There are plenty of options depending on weather with the pool and hot tub. The pool is very well designed for small children as it has a large walk out pad that is shallow. The town is quiet and easy to navigate. The beach was clear and clean and not crowded. We were able to walk down and set up right near the house, come and go as we pleased for lunch, and sun breaks. This was the most relaxing beach vacation we have taken thus far.

Fantastic property, location and owner!
We had a lovely, relaxing time at What the Shell! This house had everything we could possibly need. It was very clean and comfortable. We loved the easy access to beach. The pool and the hot tub were great when we didn’t want to get sandy. Lots of great places to eat with a short drive. I would love to stay here again.
The only thing I missed were bike paths.

Stay at What the Shell
Our week was excellent, Anne was very easy to communicate with and the home was clean and as advertised. The location was excellent, a short walk to the beach. Many eateries and markets around to keep us well fed and stocked with necessities. We want to come back in the future. Frisco and Hatteras Village are uncrowded and that added to our wonderful trip.

Perfection
Our family loved this property! Having 3 kids of varying ages the pool was a huge hit. Amenities were the best I have seen in a rental property...EVERYTHING we needed and then some. The home was super clean upon arrival and Anne, the owner, had left us an amazing gift bag including a kite, makings for s'mores and a nice bottle of wine. The dune over to the ocean is a little steep and I only mention that for folks with toddlers as our 3 year old struggled a little. We highly recommend What The Shell...amazing family vacation! Thank You, Anne!

In the middle of the week my sister in law and brother in law and their 3 young kids also joined us for a few days. The house was well accommodating and we ended up packing more than we needed, as the house already had it supplied. We loved how close it was to walk over the dune to the beach. The Frisco beach was serene and we enjoyed the warm ocean waters in early October. My husband also enjoyed surf fishing out on the beach. We enjoyed our morning breakfast views out on the deck and we loved relaxing in the hot tub at night. We were also able to easily get in touch with Anne regarding any questions we had. We had such a great time and we definitely plan on returning.

Can’t wait to go back
We are so lucky to have found What the Shell. The property feels like a home, not just a rental. We love to cook and this is the first rental we’ve had that was fully stocked with kitchen gadgets. It was also great for our group with four young children — there was a high chair and plenty of games. Anne is a wonderful host — she reached out early on and was available for any questions, big or small. The location was awesome too—close enough to the beach to run back to the house when needed. The area is quiet and peaceful — just what we needed as we are still being very careful with social distancing. We are already planning to go back!

“What the the Shell”
It was our First time in Frisco and loved this quaint little town. “What the Shell” is a beautiful cozy beach house that had every amenity that you would need. The kitchen was equipped to to handle all our food and beverage preparation needs! The house was spotless. The pool and hot tub was used almost everyday! The view and the breeze was so relaxing. Our host indulged is with complimentary ingredients to make s’mores on the beach! She made feel comfortable as though we were family staying at her house and was readily available to answer our questions. There were 7 of us that were very comfortable in this spacious beach house. I would definitely stay here again and would highly recommend this beautiful rental!

Even better than we imagined
Our group of 8 wanted for absolutely nothing in this incredible home. It had all the touches of comfort and convenience that we could ever hope for, and all in a welcoming environment just steps from the ocean. Some beach houses are overly kitschy or chintzy with the accommodations and decor, but What the Shell felt warm and cozy while having all of the modern details of an updated home-including a beautiful master bath, comfortable beds (and we are picky about our beds), a perfect sized pool and a hot tub. The owner was amazing with her communication, both long before the arrival date and throughout the week of our stay. The entire house was well stocked to the point that we really only had to bring food and beach towels-which is entirely unheard of in a rental. We were reluctant to leave this home and look forward to returning again.

Hurricane Dorian
While we were quite disappointed to not get to stay thanks to the mandatory evacuation, Anne did all she possibly could to have her home ready for us. She made a trip from her home to check for damages and have the house ready for us. She kept us informed every step of the way. We would definitely considering renting with Anne again. I’m sure What the Shell is a great vacation home!

Awesome rental!
Dont hesitate to book this house! The location was great, pool was awesome, house was perfect. Most well stocked kitchen I've ever experienced in a vrbo rental. Communication directly with owner was prompt and friendly. I think you get such better service than going through a rental that uses a management company. There were so many little extra things and touches here and there. It was the perfect rental for our multi family trip!

Wonderful! Best beach house we’ve stayed at on the Outer Banks
My family stayed at What The Shell in September 2018. We vacation on the Outer Banks every year, typically on Hatteras and have stayed in various beach houses throughout the years. What The Shell was by far the best house we’ve visited. It is incredibly clean, well appointed and comfortable. We enjoyed the ocean views and close proximity to the beach. The owner, Anne, was incredibly helpful and a wealth of information about the area. We’re very hopeful that we can make it back next summer!

Absolutely Stunning! Excellent Stay at What The Shell!
Property is exactly as described, and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. We were two familes of four with young kids and there was ample space for all.
The property is very well maintained, the location is a perfect distance from the beach, and the house has all the ammenities and equipment needed to enjoy a week in the sun. The kids had so much fun in the pool, it offered a great way to end each day at the beach and provided a nice alternative to the ocean on the day it was a bit too windy on the beach to swim. The hot tub is very nice and is well situated on the second level patio with close proximity to the bedrooms. The upper level patio offers a great view of the ocean, has very comfy furniture, and even has a sheltered eating area that was perfect for sitting and having an early morning coffee or an outside meal.
We loved the location, the beach was beautiful, the property was excellent, the rental process seamless, and the owner was responsive and easy to correspond with. Thanks Anne for providing us your lovely home for our week at the Outerbanks!

Our 1st time at the beach house, we have been staying at the canal house for better than ten years!! I am loving this house and the convenience of the beach being just over the dune. The house is fabulous, could not ask for anything more beautiful!!

Perfection inside and out!
We stayed in What The Shell a few years ago, loved it then and loved it even more this time. The owner thinks of everything you could possibly want in a vacation home. Clean, well stocked kitchen, very comfortable beds, fantastic view of the ocean and a pool that is one of nicest we have seen. Very short walk to the beach where we fished every day. One of the nicest things is the gift bag that is there upon your arrival. There was wine, fudge and even a little bag of beach toys for our grandson. So thoughtful! Can not wait to stay again next year.

Great home
This is the second time I rented this house in Frisco. I almost hate to tell people how much I like it! Just to start- the owner is wonderful to work with. There was a goody bag which welcomed us(very nice). It appears based on the people that are staying there, she puts different things in the goody bag. The house is one back from the ocean and has a great view of the ocean from the deck. I spend every night sitting on the deck and listening/viewing the ocean. This is very peaceful to me.The house is very clean with many amenities . The beach is only fifty yards from the house so if you forgot something you needed it is a short walk back to the house. The pool is clean but beware you do get some crab visitors! She does have a variety of pool toys to use . We have enjoyed our stay here and to me it is worth the extra drive to go to What the Shell versus going to Duck NC.

Fabulous vacation home!!
Beautiful OBX home! My family vacations every year on the Outerbanks .This home was the best of any we ever stayed at. The owner was so helpful. She sent us so much information about the area. When we arrived she also left a bag full of goodies ,which was greatly appreciated. Everything about this house was awesome. My family and I would definitely rent this house again.
