Water Front Cottage TWO BEDROOM COTTAGE WITH EXPANDED DINING/SLEEPING AREA AND . A HUGE 12’X40’ SCREENED IN PORCH OVER LOOKING THE SHENANDOAH RIVER!!!! NEW FOR 2024: "WIFI POWERED BY STAR-LINK" Relax and enjoy a cozy vacation with your family, friends and pets on the Shenandoah River. Sweetwater Vacation Properties newly renovated cottage on the South Fork of the Shenandoah River (Mile 12) north of Luray, VA. Area offers excellent hunting as well as ultra-lite and fly-fishing for Small Mouth Bass, Brim, Red Eye Bass as well as baiting for old standbys like catfish and carp. There are numerous hiking and riding trails throughout the area and over 26 miles of good canoeing water with public access. If you are into plants and trees, there are a wide variety of both in the area. I also recommend a good book and a pair of binoculars for bird watching (Baltimore Orioles are nesting along the river in spring and early summer) or curl up by the campfire or in the hammock with that favorite novel you have been meaning to read. This is definitely Virginia Outdoors at it's finest! Sweetwater Cottage, #5 Lorelei Lane, Luray, VA, is newly renovated and is situated on 3 secluded acres along the Shenandoah River). The Cottage has a fully equipped kitchen with gas stove and oven, dishes, silverware, pots and pans, coffee maker, microwave, waffle maker, and a full bath with tub/shower combination. Two bedrooms, living room, dining area picnic tables, large fire pit, gas grill, and a NEW 12’x40’ screened-in porch with a spectacular river view. Sleeping arrangements in the cottage includes two queen size beds and one double futon bed in the living room and one double futon bed in the dining extension. There is STAR-LINK Internet and WiFi and NETFLIX, TV/DVD player as well as a CD stereo player available. Bed linens are provided, but you will need to bring your own towels, sleeping bags, food, kitchen supplies and beverages. Cottage renters can expand their individual accomodations by bringing their RV and hooking up to the RV connections at the cottage. We wanted weekend to unplug and relax and what a way to do it! The cottage is beautifully renovated and right in the river! Our host even left us some surprises for a birthday we were celebrating. It was such a nice touch.

It really is right next to the river, which you can hear constantly in the background. It was gorgeous! The screened in porch was a highlight of the house, giving ample space to sip coffee and watch the sun rise. There are good trails to get into right next to the property, and a bit of driving will lead to more. Host was quick to respond to a few questions I had.

Exactly as advertised! Peaceful and beautiful. Jan and John have provided everything you need to enjoy the river or just relax and watch the wildlife. We would definitely book again!

A perfect getaway to a beautiful wildlife abundant, clean, sparkling river… the Shenandoah! And clean goes for Sweetwater cabin also! There was a fabulous screened porch where we lived, eating, talking, reading, and always watching the geese, the kingfishers, the herons and the ospreys fish. My husband fished but only hooked the little guys…. But that was fine, after all it’s just about getting your line in the water. The cabin was also very private with two large empty field on each side, so we did not worry about bothering anyone. Check this one out! You won’t be disappointed. Nicer than the pics!

Absolutely amazing views and beautiful house! The kitchen is modern and gorgeous and the screened in porch is wonderful! The only bad thing is having to leave! Lol!.. If you forgot something (salt, pepper, trash bags, coffee, toiletries, etc) don’t worry it’s there!! We had a wonderful time, next time we’re leaving the kids at home! ❤️

My husband and I were very impressed with the house, the property setting and all the admendities. The kitchen is well stocked and laid out very functionally. FINALLY, a rental with comfortable beds! The screened in porch is also amazing!! The sounds of the running water and views are so peaceful and soothing! We would rent here again for sure!

We went during a quiet period, but this allowed for full enjoyment of the beauty of the river and its wildlife. From the comfort of the screened porch, we took in the ducks, geese, and blue heron flying up and down the river. The river in front of Sweetwater Cottage is not deep, and the sounds of the water flowing past the stones mimicked a babbling brook, only louder. We enjoyed nearby hikes in the forest with our pup. The cottage was clean and comfortable and the owners were welcoming and easy to communicate with. We left refreshed by the beauty of the area.

Tucked in at the end of Lorelei Road, you can't beat the quiet and cozy cabin for a small group getaway - great kitchen, fantastic porch and riverfront views. We plan to return!

Our family really enjoyed our long weekend stay at Sweetwater. The house was clean when we arrived and had everything we could possibly need. The owners paid attention to all the details from providing use of their canoes and kayaks to providing rechargeable lanterns. The kitchen was also very well stocked and seemed to be recently remodeled. We hiked in SNP early in the days and enjoyed our late afternoons and evenings relaxing by fire pit. We really enjoyed sitting in the large screened in porch with lovely views of the river. Our dog had a blast as well. We hope to visit again someday!

Beautiful property, with direct access to the river. Kayaks and canoes are available. The kitchen has everything you need. Easy access to hiking. The property owners were very communicative. Highly recommend this cabin.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and hated to leave. The house was clean and well supplied. Plenty of dishes and cookware. Ample seating inside an out. We could not have chosen a better location. The only thing. there was no place to put our clothes. However considering everything, we will stay here again if we are ever back in the area.

You will not be disappointed in a single thing at this amazing, extremely well appointed cabin in the little oasis of Luray when you checkin to unwind, unplug and get away from it all!! The kitchen was about the best stocked one I have ever had at a cabin rental, the some was super clean and well decorated/furnished both inside and on the very spacious and inviting screened back porch (HUGE plus to not have to fight the bugs or be burning candles/thermacells every time you want to be outside for a bit) where we ate ALL our meals to soak up as much relaxing views and sounds as we could during our stay. We will definitely be back and Jan and her husband were fantastic, hands on, communicative owners and renters and it was a pleasure working with them as well.

This was our second year at Sweetwater and we plan to return again next year. It's a wonderful, well equipped cottage located on a beautiful, gentle river. The grandchildren and the dogs loved playing in the river every single day. We enjoyed relaxing in the screen porch, watching the birds and savoring the quiet.

Our Second Year at Sweetwater!
This is our second year vacationing at Sweetwater - we love this property! It’s very peaceful and we love that so many river toys are included - we spent time on the river every day! We had bad storms one evening and quickly found lanterns for emergency use - they have thought of everything (the lights only flickered - thank goodness!). We saw so many cool animals from the property - many cranes, herons, orioles, rabbits, deer, and even a large snapping turtle right by the concrete steps into the river! My daughter had blast “fishing” for the many crayfish from the steps (we used pieces of hot dog on a string, put the crayfish in a bowl to observe, and then set them free). It is a wonderful place for a family vacation!

We loved the location for we enjoyed privacy at the cottage and were an easy 30 minute drive to downtown Luray We especially were grateful to bring our rescue beagle Bella with us. Thank you Jan and John for sharing your cottage with us.

Serenity on the Shenandoah
Sweetwater Cottage is such a peaceful oasis. Being right on the river was so relaxing and the screened porch allowed us to enjoy the view and sounds with our morning coffee and evening wine. The cottage was spotless. The kitchen was stocked with utensils, appliances and spice.

A perfect little getaway
The Sweetwater Cottage is located right on the Shenandoah River and you have access to canoes and kayaks! Be sure to have car racks and two cars as the River is quick moving and you will need to drop in and pick up further down river. The kitchen was newly renovated and well stocked! We cooked all of our meals at the cottage. There are trails along the river to hike (accessible for kids under 10) and through the woods which we enjoyed with our dog! It’s not overly populated so we were able to enjoy nature and bring our dog too (she isn’t dog friendly so I was worried about a ton of other dogs- we didn’t see anyone else so it all worked out). Nice fire pit to enjoy and household amenities. We want to come back when it’s warmer to really enjoy the river. Thank you Sweetwater Cottage for a great Getaway!

Very relaxing
We love the place and it’s location, on Shenandoah riverside. It has everything you need to relax or go canoeing, kayaking or tubing and even fishing. We mainly relaxed with the family. Jan and John were very easy to deal with and made the whole check in process easy and fast. The house was really nice and we really enjoyed sitting on the porch and looking out over the water. We really enjoyed the entire weekend and glad we were able to find this place.

Our family, 2 adults 3 kids and one dog, loved our stay on the river. The kids loved the swing and the movie collection and the canoes. The screened porch is fun for family board games and dinners. Tip: don’t try tubing if the water level is low. Will definitely book again.

The cabin is spacious (held all 7 of our bags!) and cozy, with everything you need to prep/cook meals/beverages: dishes aplenty, blender, coffee maker, Keurig, epic waffle maker, gas stove, pots, pans, tools, the works. (FYI most of the glassware is plastic, we picked up wine & DOF glasses at Walmart and Dollar General, in case that matters to you. The flea markets and thrift shops had really cool glassware, too!) The fun is readily accessible with the river and all the toys they provide: kayaks, canoes, all the gear, and water that stays generally thigh to waist level (sans excess rain) for safe swimming and easy floating. There’s a rope you can tie onto and float all day, and a fire pit to enjoy and roast marshmallows at night. Rain days are spectacular with the huge screened in deck, you’ll spend a lot of time out there, especially watching the hummingbird battles. Being closer to town was handy, with two grocery options and plenty of adorable cafes for coffee, lunch, snacks and sweets. We never got to hiking, but TONS of options in the area, some right down the road, and of course the caverns are very close. A river outfitters is also right by the cabin, so you can hop in for a long float or row if your heart desires. All in all this cabin was clean, comfy, quiet, and conveniently located, just perfect. It was just what we needed after this awful year [for everyone!]. Jan and John are also the sweetest, friendliest folks you’ll ever meet. They went out of their way to make us feel welcome, went over and beyond helping us settle in, and were quick to respond to any little questions. This was one of the most relaxing vacations I’ve ever had, and I’m so so glad I picked this one. We will definitely go back! Thank you guys!

Perfect Family Fun in a Tranquil Setting!
My family and I had an amazing time at Sweetwater cottage! It was my parents, myself, my husband, and our 7 year old daughter. We loved the privacy of the location and it was so easy to enjoy the river - we tubed and/or kayaked every day! My daughter loved seeing so many animals - we saw turtles (including a tiny mud turtle!), cranes, foxes, deer, crayfish, rabbits, hummingbirds, and more! It is also the most well-stocked rental we have ever encountered - when my phone ended up in the river, we found rice in the pantry to dry it out (thankfully, it was fine!). If you forgot something at home, chances are they will have it stocked for you. We had such a wonderful time that I contacted Jan the day before we were supposed to check out, asking if we could stay one more night - we were thrilled that she was able to accommodate us! As we were leaving on check-out day, my daughter asked if we could visit again - we hope one day we can!
