About this cottage rental
Nestled in Chikaming Township, this charming cottage for $375 per night is a great choice for your next vacation. WE EVEN TIMED IT WITH A STOP-WATCH, WE ARE SLIGHTLY LESS THAN A FIVE-MINUTE WALK TO MCKINLEY BEACH! Our cottage is located less than a 1/2 block, ( under a five-minute walk, really! ) to one of the quietest, family-friendly beaches in Union Pier, McKinley Beach. In a secluded setting, our cottage is surrounded by tall trees and set far back from all roads. It is difficult to find and we like it that way. The master bedroom (with a king-size bed) on the first floor, has a door that opens to a large deck and screened-in gazebo. The adjacent living room has a vaulted ceiling and a wood-burning fireplace. Our fully equipped kitchen with custom cabinets, granite countertops, and stainless steel appliances is located between the living room and cozy dining area with large windows and a patio door that leads to the spacious deck and piped gas grill. On the second floor is the 2nd bedroom with a queen-size bed. This bedroom and adjacent bath are private with views of a huge front yard sheltered by 100-year-old tall trees. The 2nd floor also has a sleeping loft with a queen-size futon sofa that can sleep 2. All ceilings on the second floor soar to 12 ft. Our deck is equipped with a large natural gas Weber grill and a screened-in dining area. There is also additional seating outside the gazebo for a more open feeling. Our deck has an outdoor shower with hot and cold water and a fire pit with even more seating. The setting is private with only two neighbors nearby; one in a single-family home and the other in a cottage identical to our own adjoined to ours. We think our cottage is wonderful, but please keep in mind that this is NOT A PARTY HOUSE and is much too small for a wedding, a family reunion, or a party with a large group of people. Our cottage is only 1,005 sq. ft., that's not very large. Also, keep in mind that we only have parking for TWO cars. We have a SIX-person maximum occupancy, this number includes children. When you first arrive at our cottage you may see other empty parking spaces in our parking area. The parking lot is shared and only TWO of the available spaces are ours. The other parking spaces belong to our neighbors and are NOT ours to give away. At times there may be parking available for a third car, however, it will be necessary to check with our neighbors prior to your arrival. We cannot guarantee a third parking space. Please keep in mind that our absolute MAXIMUM IS SIX PEOPLE, WHICH INCLUDES CHILDREN. Getting back to our beach, it is less than a half block from our cottage. Once you walk through the McKinley Beach gate and are at the beach stairs, it is only 43 steps from the top stair to sand. The stairs are wide, with handrails, and are broken up by two landings--one of them is large enough to have seating for six people. Once on the beach, look around you. You have the magnificence of Lake Michigan in front of you and in back of you, the sylvan charm of a wooded setting. Even though it is a small, public beach, it usually feels private and is one of the loveliest and most family-friendly beaches in Harbor Country.

The cottage is amazing! So well equipped, perfect location near the beach, spotless, and adorably decorated. There are three outdoor seating areas and even an outdoor shower, which is so helpful after a day at the beach. Good quality beach chairs, umbrellas, and beach toys. Rosemary made checking in super easy and was available in case we had any questions. Highly recommend staying here!

This is the second time we’ve stayed here and we’ll definitely come back again! Clean, well-appointed and cute! Mike and Rosemary were so nice and Mike showed us how everything worked when we got there. Less than 5 minutes to quiet beach. They added an outdoor shower since last time we were there which is great for rinsing off sand and lake water before going inside. Nice outdoor seating areas surrounded by lovely garden, and the strong AC unit kept us cool on the super hot days. Gas grill was easy to use for hot dogs and burgers. Kitchen is smaller but had everything we needed. We love this place!

This property is cozy and has an excellent floor plan. Everything is of high quality, and it is the cleanest property of its type that we have occupied. The outdoor space is large and very private. It is also just more than half a block to the public beach entrance. We’ve already booked a return trip. Mike and Rosemary are wonderful and attentive owners.

We are a family of four (kids 4 and 5) and we had plenty of space and really appreciated how easy it was to get to the beach. We have stayed in Union Pier 3 or 4 times, and this is one of the better access points. The stairs to the beach go all the way down. While this portion of the beach is public, it feels very private. It was very family friendly, and everyone was very nice. The beach chairs were really appreciated, too.
I would call this property a townhouse. You do share walls with a neighbor, but the owner said the owner is rarely there. This was the case when we stayed. The green space is shared with the neighbors, as well. The fire pit and seating area, however, are solely yours when you stay. The outdoor shower was fantastic, and in my opinion, a must when you stay in Union Pier! This has allowed the townhouse to stay incredibly clean on the inside, and is so easy when bringing sandy legs back from the beach. In fact, we only bathed our kids in the outdoor shower throughout our stay.
The loft area was a big hit with our kids. We had movie night every night after a day full of exploring. I appreciated the king bed in the downstairs bedroom. Everyone slept great! Plenty of towels, toilet paper, paper towels, etc. were provided. The kitchen had everything we needed.

We stayed at this cottage for two nights with our young daughters. We very much enjoyed the cozy layout and updated fixtures throughout the property. Proximity to the beach was a real highlight and we appreciated all the beach supplies made available to us as part of the rental. We would seriously consider staying here again the next time we come to the area.

A lovely stay at a well appointed and welcoming cottage. Cozy fireplace, nice kitchen, wonderful outside seating areas. We were in town with another couple for a wedding in the area and it suited our needs perfectly. A short walk to the beach and an easy walk/short drive to several eateries. We thought it was perfect. Rosemary and Mike were also exceedingly flexible (and gracious) with our ever changing travel plans - including a failure to remember the time change between Chicago and Michigan! We were very grateful. And highly recommend this spot.

We loved staying here. Really great cozy cottage with nice kitchen, all kinds of little touches that made staying in the house and using outdoor space extra nice. Great location for walking into bakery and grocery and great access to a nice beach. Rosemary met us to make sure we knew everything we needed and was great to communicate ahead of visit. We loved our stay at this cottage. We were initially drawn to it because of the incredible location - an easy walk to a beautiful beach and also walkable to the small main strip of Union Pier. The cottage itself is as perfect as the location. It's well-appointed, extremely functional, well cared for and comfortable. We loved the various outdoor spaces and took full advantage of the outdoor shower, as well. Truly loved our stay at this amazing place and hope to return!

Perfect getaway
My best friends from high school, (4ladies in their 40s) have a getaway every year to Union Pier. This rental was perfect for us. Two ladies shared the king bed, another slept on the queen and I slept on the futon. It was very comfortable. The house was spotless and had everything we needed. She provided towels and fixings for coffee. The beach is about a 50 yard walk to a small side road and then 100 yes to the top of the stairs to the beach. Beautiful private beach. We will return here for all of the extra amenities such as the outdoor shower and fire pit. We love the walk to the grocery/bakery for breakfast and then eat at the Red Arrow for supper. Thank you to our host who gave excellent directions!

This place is nestled in a gorgeous neighborhood, it's so close to the beach, and it's quiet, cozy and comfy. We loved that beach gear, including towels, was provided. Each night we grabbed a few chairs and beach toys and played on the beach to close out the day. Amazing!

Extremely quiet, great fire pit, another deck next to screened in gazebo. The path to the beach is a little hop skip and jump. Walk down some stairs and there you are! Beautiful! Unfortunately one of the day’s it rained and was cold but if the weathers good I guarantee will not leave this beach. There’s nothing, nothing that I could say negative about this lovely home. Rosemary let us check in early, and was there when we got there. Showed us around, a very kind, and welcoming woman. Thank you Rosemary for allowing us to stay at your beautiful getaway. 100% guarantee we will be back. Also, if we could hand pick a location to stay yet it would be exactly where this home is located. Close to some small restaurants and 5 to 10 minutes from downtown new Buffalo. Wonderful!
