The photos don't do the place justice. The house was a labor of love by an architect and artist. Family artwork and European sensibilities invite guests to enjoy the beauty of Greenport 5 doors from the water. The house is perfectly situated 1/2 block from a dock and 2 blocks from Main St where coffee shops, restaurants and local shopping are an easy stroll. Greenport is a working fishing and ferry port as well as the last stop on the LIRR. But the local businesses, investment in a waterfront park and non-stop ferry service to Shelter Island keep the place busy in a good way. There is a lot of local small business pride and it is well-deserved with customer service and multicultural flair.Marta is an excellent host; easy going, flexible and calm. She has stocked the place far beyond other VRBO rentals so it was a relief not to have to purchase sundries normally not included in other rentals we've had. The gardens make the site an oasis of calm. The property is a shared footprint among garden, yard and home which is a refreshing change from houses that cover the lot end to end.The neighborhood is 2 blocks off the liveliness of Main Street so breezes off the water and summer birds are what you hear, not cars. Having never been to Greenport before, we especially enjoyed our week because this treasured home was where we stayed.

The AC didn’t work for a day and a half. It was too hot to sleep. The house is absolutely beautiful but filled with things that could be broken especially if you have a dog. It says it is dog friendly, or dogs are allowed, but it does not specify that everything in the house is valuable or looks valuable. The location is great.

House and description were more or less accurate. However it was not until I was to arrive that I was told that I had to remove my garbage to a local dump fifteen minutes away by car. I did not rent a car as greenport is a walking town. This was an inconvenience and had I known I wouldn’t have rented the house for more than six nights. I cut my trip short by 12 days. I think it should have been listed in the description etc.
