Located in Virgin Islands (U.S.), this charming condo for $136 per night is a fantastic choice for your next break. Envision your feet in the white sand, watching the many shades of blue Sapphire Beach has to offer. How will you spend your day? Playing with the fish and turtles on the reef at Sapphire Beach? Parasailing or jet skiing? Taking a charter to the BVI? Catching the ferry from Red Hook to St. John? Its all convenient from from "The Captain and the Mermaid" condo at Sapphire Beach, St. Thomas. We invite you to share our piece of Paradise. We fell in love with St. Thomas because of the beautiful water, breathtaking scenery, fun atmosphere, and great people. We found that St. Thomas was our favorite vacation destination and kept going back year after year. We even got engaged and married on island. Our hope is that you too will fall in love with St. Thomas like we did. "The Captain and the Mermaid" is a studio condo located at award winning Sapphire Beach in the gated Sapphire Village Condominiums. Our condo is located up the hill on the parking lot level (no stairs needed). Sapphire Village has 2 pools onsite and a restaurant/bar. Sapphire has its own watersports/dive shop located at the beach, a marina with charters, and is conveniently located a mile away from Red Hook on the East End of St. Thomas. Red Hook hosts a variety of restaurants/bars, shopping, ice cream shop, a grocery store and the ferry dock to help you island hop. We have a sister condo VRBO number 1562495 that also sleeps 2, it is two doors down from this condo. If you're traveling with more people and looking for something close please take a look.

Top of the hill but we knew that. Enjoyed Sudi’s. And the beach. K cup coffee maker did not work.

This rental had the perfect location for us with a very short walk to an absolutely breathtaking beach as well as beach bar/restaurant, multiple pools. The view from the room was gorgeous and the place was very clean and nice. Would definitely stay again!

Had to take off a star because there is a washer and dryer advertised, but it is not in the unit, it is a laundry room for the whole property. It turned out to be expensive to use, because you have to buy a certain number of coins, but the machines require a different amount. So we had to buy a bunch and then were left with extra that we didn’t need. Also we had to pay to run the dryer multiple times to actually get clothes dried. Over all this is not a fault of this room that we stayed in, but advertising there is a washer and dryer without the details feels a bit misleading. We would’ve budgeted and packed differently if I had thought to check first.

We stayed one night enroute from the airport to St John. The condo was clean and met our needs. There was a restaurant/bar within walking distance, but no walkable store. We didn’t get to experience the beach during the day, but looked nice from the condo view. The security guard was so friendly and let us into her A/C booth while she called us a cab. The pool just outside the unit was so refreshing to unwind before bedtime.

This was the perfect basecamp for an island weekend getaway. Condo was as described and very clean, towels were fresh, bed was comfy, and location was great. Chairs and cooler and beach towels for our use were a fantastic touch. Perfect for the two of us. And the hosts were incredibly responsive - above and beyond. Would definitely recommend.

Wished could have gotten an earlier check in before 4pm, arrived in the area at 830am off a sailing trip. Cleaning staff still there when arrived at 4pm. Lacking balcony and garden views thought was advertized and why selected, lost power brief time period, single room air conditioner wasn't as strong as would have liked, little bit paint peeling on the wall next to garbage can. Doable but be prepared to hike down/up decent hill to get to Sudi's restaurant with in the complex and further down hill to Sapphire Marina and further if need to meet other parties staying in Sapphire Resort area. Astounded that the scheduled bug/insect company came in unannounced early am before check out. They even sprayed near if not particially on my bags, would have moved my bags close to the center of the room if given the chance. Should have been coordinated after check out, 11am.
Otherwise nice updated bathroom and kitchen, did beach chairs and snorkle/goggles to utilize 10-15 walk to beach near Sapphire Resort. Overall good place to stay.

We had the best trip! My sister and I were looking for a getaway and definitely chose right. This property is in a fantastic location on Sapphire Beach near the Red Hook ferry to St. John. They had everything we needed and walking distance to a couple restaurants and bars. The pizza at Paradise pie on Sapphire beach hit the spot after a long day of snorkeling and Breakfast was a quick grab at go at Beach buzz. Side note, make time to drive to Brewers beach. It’s right by the airport so about 25 min, but we’ll worth it to see so many beautiful turtles. My absolute favorite. The owner Michael was amazing with communication and responded immediately to any questions I had. I highly recommend this gem.

The Captain and the Mermaid was a perfect place for our 5 day mom and daughter vacation.
Open concept apartment, very clean, comfortable bed, and a full stocked kitchen. The best part was the table by the window for eating, playing board games, drawing…all while admiring the view!
There is also a nice restaurant by one of the two swimming pools, and Sapphire beach just a short walk away. Red Hook town was 2 min drive, for our grocery needs, and the car ferry to St John where the National Park with spectacular beaches await!!! The aquarium is also very close to the property.
Mike was always there for us, a text away, quick to answer. We had no problems, and all the instructions were clear.

This property was exactly as described. It was quiet and the views were breath taking. My wife and I could not have asked for a better way to celebrate our 15 year wedding Anniversary. There are 3 or 4 restaurants within walking distance(some steep hills if walking). We tried them all and the food was great and the drinks even better. The power went out for several hours one day, but most of the island has generators which kept everything going. We have not one bad thing to say. Thank you and we will be back.

The condo was very clean. It had everything we needed to stay for a week and be very comfortable. The location of the condo couldn't be better. Next to the ocean, 2 swimming pools, 2 restaurants and the friendliest little bar. The people were great and helpful. We have made life long friends here. We have all agreed to repeat same week next year. The bonus was when we arrived, it was also carnival week. We definitely recommend The Captain and The Mermaid as your place to stay when you visit St. Thomas. Also do a day trip to St. John.

The location and amentities of the condo were perfect for one overnight before catching a boat in Red Hook. It was an easy check-in process, and we had some hiccups at check out, but Michael made himself available and helped us troubleshoot! Great stay 😊

We had an awesomeness stay at the Captain and The Mermaid. The place was clean and comfortable. We had everything that we needed. At first, I was a little stressed because we couldn't safely walk into Red Hook and I wasn't comfortable renting a car. However once I explored, I found that it was an easy walk down to Sapphire Beach which had snorkling, beautiful sand,a coffee shop, and breakfast. Sudi's restaurant was a short walk within the condo area for an affordable breakfast or dinner by the pool. They also had an ATM and were gracious to almost daily exchange a $20 for dollar bills that helped my son and I to grab the dollar taxi/open air safari to get into Red Hook and most places we wanted to go around the island. The dollar taxi/safari ran about ecery 5 minutes until 6p 5 out of the 7 days we were there. On the days it wasn't running, we usually found out ny standing at the bus stop and a taxi would stop and let us know that the safari wasn't running and would offer a ride. It was $6 pp to get to and/or from Red Hook. In the end, not having a vehicle was 100% easy and okay. On Water Island, we rented a golf cart to explore (bring your ID). I do wish we would of had a Jeep for the days we went to St. John because we would've been able to explore more of the island in a day. We felt safest when we were back in Sapphire shortly after dark. Being with a child in an area that has a lot of tourists drinking was a little too chaotic. As always, the locals were great.

Decided not to rent a car because not used to driving on the opposite side of the road. Public transportation is easy and plentiful but if you don’t have a car the climb down to the beach is strenuous with all of your beach items. We managed even though we are elderly, we are in pretty good shape but others might not be. Suggest specifying in description. Also backpack chairs would have helped a lot!

Perfect for what we needed! Just a minute drive from condo to red hook ferry. And then 15 minute fairy ride to the gorgeous St. John’s!

We stayed here one night after living aboard a sailboat for 6 nights taking sailing lessons. It was such a wonderful way to recharge before heading home. The property was beautiful and well cared for, and the views could not be more stunning. There are two nearby pools and a restaurant where we could relax and have some drinks before check-in time. It was ideal.

This place was comfortable and easy to feel at home in. The walk up the hill is a very steep walk, but besides that, a very nice place to stay!
