Review 2/5* We had other family on the island renting a different house and on a few occasions they would bring their children over to hangout and use the beach. At one point during the week, after they had been over on a previous day, a man and woman approached one of our families and told them, “this isn’t a public beach, and you can’t park your car here. This is MY area!” The concerning part was that this family was my daughter, husband, and kids who are all African-American. This man did not take issue with my son’s family, which contains the same number of people, but are white. The man then proceeded to watch my family on the beach for the next couple of hours from his picnic table by the condo. When we relayed our concern to the owner of this rental she completely disregarded the man’s behavior (not even a simple, “sorry that happened”) but rather proceeded to inform us that the problem was that we had actually broken numerous rules, justifying the man’s behavior. The problem is that these “rules” that were broken are neither listed in the rental contract nor the rules page of the binder provided in the condo for the renter. So if you’re still considering renting here I will list the “unwritten rules” for you here: 1. You may only have ONE car parked there at all times. (This apparently doesn’t apply to residents as our friend from earlier had three cars parked in the lot.) 2. Any family/friends visiting you at the condo CANNOT use the beach. The beach is only for the people LISTED on the rental agreement (make sure to list any children you have, just in case). 3. There is a CAP on the number of people allowed to use the beach from each unit. I can’t tell you what that cap is only that we were supposedly over that cap. (We’ll ignore the other units that had MORE people than us on the beach though.) So if you don’t have any friends or family visiting you, you don’t have “too many” people for the beach, you enjoy being required to follow rules you’re never told about, and you’re white, then you will probably enjoy your stay here. Two stars because at least it was cleaned (and the woman in unit 4 is very nice).

We had a wonderful stay on Beaver Island and enjoyed the quiet setting. Beautiful beach right outside our door and short walk to all of the restaurants, brewery, playground, and grocery store. The cottage was small, but enough space for what we needed since we spent most of our time outside! It would have been great to have access to beach gear (towels, toys, chairs) since we came by plane and didn’t have much extra room as it was. But we were able to make it work. We loved our quiet week to end summer and loved getting to know Beaver Island!

The house was a perfect size for me and my sister and nieces. The location is great even if you are just walking from the ferry and staying in the neighborhood. Renting a car with super easy and there was enough space to park it and it was great to see around the island but hanging out around town, at the semi private beach and campfire and in the cottage would have been great for the couple days that we had it.

Nice little cottage, perfect for my husband and me. Clean. Everything we could need in the kitchen. Best part was the location -- easy walk to town, which we did a couple times every day, and rental had gorgeous view of the Bay/Lake Michigan. Very quiet and peaceful location, and the people on Beaver Island were incredibly friendly and helpful!

We enjoyed a great long weekend at this property. It was a perfect fit for our goal, which was to escape and relax as a couple of modest means. I especially enjoyed its view of the harbor and lighthouse, as well as its site on a walkable beach. The condo's proximity to downtown also made it easy to access the ferry and take-out meals given how we brought our bicycles (approximately a five-minute ride or 15-minute walk). I think the most pleasant surprise we enjoyed during our visit was the island's historical signs; that and the microbrewery. :)
