Hands down the best hospitality we have ever experienced. Maki is the most gracious of any host we have ever had. Excellent food (lots of it). This accommodation is worth planning an entire trip around. 2 private onsens. A massage chair. It was our first time with a traditional Japanese futon and we were surprised how comfortable sleeping was. Beautiful scenery and the most hospitable hosts (Maki, her mom the chef and Kenta the house pup) Thank you for an unforgettable stay! We can’t wait to come back again someday.
Everything was 10/10

The kindest host, Maki-san. The most delicious food I have had in Japan. Lovely ryokan home. Incredible hospitality. Just 10 out of 10. The Togakushi shrines are right nearby. Seriously, the food alone and the relaxing Onsen were so delightful. Thank you, Maki-san. (For non-Japanese, be sure to understand a little about how ryokan works and what the traditional inn is like. But Maki-san will teach you all you need to know!
I loved everything. This is true Japanese family hospitality and kindness.

We enjoyed every minute staying with Maki san and her family. The hotel/Ryokan was so well looked after and the facilities were very good. The room we stayed in was fantastic and we thoroughly enjoyed the onsen. We frequently visit Japan and hands down, this was one of the best.
Our host, Maki san and her family went above and beyond. The hospitality of Maki san and her family just made the experience staying with them so special. We arrived just after lunch with the intention of hiking to the shrines. Maki san wanted to ensure that we had enough time to see the upper shrine and was so kind to drive us to the entrance.
Maki san's mother cooks the food they serve us for dinner and breakfast. My husband and I practically rolled out of the dinner room. It was so delicious we couldn't help but eat everything.
The family has the cutest dog named Kenta.

Very authentic traditional house, the family has owned it for generations. It has undergone renovations and was very comfortable with all the facilities that you need.
Maki is an incredibly attentive and super friendly host. She gave great recommendations for activities to do in the area.
The food is prepared by Maki's mother and was extremely delicious.
This was our favourite stay in Japan.

If you are even just thinking about staying here, book it!! We came for our honeymoon and had the best time ever!
I cannot not describe a more peaceful, amazing experience. Complete with incredible homemade food, private onsen and beautiful japanese-style rooms overlooking the stunning mountains of Togakushi. Maki-san and her mother were so kind, and even took us round the sites by car as my husband couldn't walk at the time. By the last day we didn't want to go home! Thank you for an unforgettable holiday, it was a real treat to stay here🤗 xx

Maki and her mother are so welcoming, friendly, excellent kooks, hosts and so much more! The food is HEAVENLY, the location is perfect, the private onsen are intense but very nice, the wooden house is super beautiful! This experience will be with us for a very long time.
Thank you so much!

We had a perfect stay at this ryokan! The house is beautiful and comfortable. The menue was amazing and so tasty! The host is very accommodating and takes care of everything. If you are thinking about an authentic ryokan stay in a beautiful setting I can highly recommend this place!

Staying in this ryokan was an absolutely fantastic experience! Maki-san and her mother were so friendly and hospitable, you wouldn’t believe it. The wooden house is just stunning. It is beautifully integrated into the surrounding nature, and its interior has a warmth to it, which is instantly soothing as soon as you walk in. It is an ideal place to let go of it all, and simply relax.
Every afternoon, after having a green tea, the two onsen baths were prepared for us. After a day of walking in the beautiful forest with its many shrines, this truly was the perfect way to relax even more.
And then last, but not least… The food was out of this world good! Both breakfast and dinner were an absolute treat every time again. We discovered plenty of local dishes and specialties, that were presented in such a beautiful way. Every dish was a feast for the eyes, and tasted
amazing! If you want to discover real traditional Japanese food, then this is the perfect place.
We cannot recommend this ryokan enough, but at the same time we want to keep it a secret, so we are sure that we can make a reservation next time we go to Japan!

Maki was so lovely, we had such a great stay. The food was some of the very best in Japan, and Maki was very knowledgable about walks in the area, even dropping us off at the start of a walk as we were a little pressed for time! Our daughter loved playing with her dog Kenta, and Maki's mum cooked delicious food!
We wish we'd been able to stay longer and explore the area some more. Would happily recommend!

Absolutely amazing, this ryokan was the highlight of our trip! The property was beautiful, the food was delicious, and the host went above and beyond to make our stay perfect! Very private and comfortable environment with two gorgeous onsen.

Ms. Tsukada has been an incredible host and made us feel very comfortable before we even arrived by giving us information about the way to go to the Ryokan.
Once we arrived, we were provided with the best service we ever had as well as a lot of attentions, and the food was out of this world.
I cannot recommend enough to spend some time there.

The ryokan was beautifully built and feels authentic with lots of charm. The owner went out of her way to make our stay comfortable and enjoyable. She reserved snowshoes at the information centre for us and drove us to the starting point of the hike and later picked us up to drive back to the ryokan.
Her mother’s home cooking with local ingredients were the best meals we had in Japan, even compared to what we had at some of the high end ryokans.
Everything was perfect.

*The owner was kind and supportive even before our arrival. Her mother is warm-hearted and her companion animals were sweet.
*It was nice that the owner asked us in advance what kind of activity we would do, what we would not eat, etc.
*It was close to the bus stop.
*The living room for two was comfortable and the bedroom was nice with a thick and warm futon, which was perfect in winter.
*Each meal was delicious and the portion was more than we usually eat. We enjoyed fish and vegetables rather than meat. The dining room was beautiful.
(Below are just tips for future guests and nothing negative.)
*Steep steps to the second floor could be hard for elderly people, small children, etc.
*It would have been nicer if we could choose a bathroom because the stone floor of ours was cold in winter.
*The washroom was cold, but that is typical in Japanese traditional houses in winter.

The hospitality is amongst the best Ive experienced, even for Japanese standards. The host, Maki welcomed us very warmly as if its our own home, making sure that all of our needs are well taken care of. Its the little things that matter e.g. making sure our shoes are dried, heating up the room for us and she took the extra effort to drive us to the nearby shrine as it was difficult to walk because of the snow (we are super thankful).
The place is also amazing, beautifully refurbished to have modern amenities and yet retain the charm of traditional ryokan. We really enjoyed the rooms and baths as well.
The 3rd thing that stood out was the food, which was meticulously prepared, luxurious and abundant. The Kaiseki meals were such a delight, prepared by the host's mother.
Overall, it was an amazing stay which we were able to truly unwind and relax.
Nothing major, but the location is slightly further away from the mid and higher level shrines. It is difficult to walk (or rather, quite time consuming). The hourly bus can be a good option, or do consider hiring a car to make the stay here more convenient.

Perfect ryokan in remote Japan. The experience was beyond expectations. The shrines in the area are superb! Everything was perfect and the hostess was very helpful. The food is amazing (but there's too much!)! The ryokan can be easily access by car from Nagano. It is a 35min scenic drive. I suggest nissan-rent-a-car right next to the train station. Everything went smoothly.
nothing. It's a five stars experience!

We were honored to be the first foreign guest here since covid. The host is very very friendly. She brought us nice dinner/breakfast (huge generous portion). It was raining the second day and she proactively took us to the middle shrine so we can walk less. The stay was also very nice with several large rooms plus two bath (the house is limit to one group of guest only each day - great privacy). They also have a very cute dog! Location was perfect too at the lower shrine area of Togakushi. overall, we were being well-treated, will definitely revisit again in future

If we can give it more than 10 perfect points, we would definitely do so. Innkeeper and her mother/chef were super warm and they went out of their way to make our stay comfortable (wonderful meals, super cushy futons, two great baths, spotlessly clean, etc.) and fulfilled (drove us to Kagamigaike Pond to start the hike; gave us tips on where to spot Northern Alps, etc.). Breakfasts and dinners were nicely prepared with local fresh and seasonal ingredients and beautifully presented in Japanese tableware. The food was delicious and healthy. The inn is well reformed in Japanese style, functional and same time aesthetic! There are personal touches everywhere. Would love to go back in different seasons!
Nothing. Everything is perfect.

The staff went well above and beyond any expectations, while still staying perfectly friendly. Food is extremely good with perfectly cooked local products. Perfect location only 50m away from temple, historical Japanese house well renovated. In short, a perfect stay in paradise.

This was without doubt the best booking I have ever made. The ryokan is picture perfect, Maki is unbelievably, indescribably attentive and wonderful, the food is delicious and copious. Two private, clean onsen on site. And there's a dog - a really cute dog. Would live here if possible. A must try if you're in Nagano. Or Japan. Or Asia.
Nothing. There is nothing to dislike about this ryokan.
