Located in the most desirable location in Nags Head, this beautiful, totally renovated one bedroom is just 1/4 mile from the award winning beaches of Nags Head and one block from the stunning Roanoke Sound. The Backyard is the ideal retreat for a vacationing couple. This is a 100% smoke free home. We have it all!! Beach chairs! Coolers! Bikes! Just show up with your bathing suit and beach towels and get ready to have a blast! Completely renovated, our beautiful apartment for two is a true home away from home featuring one bedroom with a Queen bed, 32” HD TV, sliding French doors, custom tiled floor to ceiling mirror, one of a kind art, exposed beam hardwood ceiling with recess lighting, and a sitting area perfect for reading. The dresser provides ample storage space for clothes, shoes, and more. Blinds throughout provide your choice of sunlight or privacy. With beautiful Island decor featuring unique art from the owner’s personal collection, the living room has comfy couch a 32” HD TV and love seat. This is cooled with central air for your comfort as well as ceiling fans throughout. The fully equipped kitchen has a, microwave, refrigerator, stove with retro hood and hand laid stone backsplash, and everything you could desire to cook, prepare and serve a gourmet feast, heat left-over’s from the great assortment of fabulous restaurants surrounding our property or grill your fresh catch on the gas BBQ grill just out on the deck. The dining nook, adjacent to the kitchen has seating for 2. The bathroom features a tub and shower and a beautifully tiled one of a kind mirror. Also, no Outer Banks rental would be complete without the essential outdoor shower! (Shared with owners) Enjoy your hot water shower under the sun or stars while the aroma of confederate jasmine fills your senses. Linens and towels are provided – just bring your beach towels. After your long day at the beach come home and relax on your own backyard deck and enjoy the beautifully landscaped grounds with Koi pond and gardens throughout. Also within walking distance of our apartment is a neighborhood sound beach. Here, you can enjoy spectacular views and sunsets! Bring your beach chair and relax. We will make you feel right at home at The Backyard. This is a downstairs unit. We live upstairs. If you are coming to the Outer Banks to party, shoot off fireworks, and generally make a lot of noise this is not the place for you!! We live in a neighborhood of working people who are not on vacation. We will do our best to respect your privacy and stay as quiet as possible upstairs – just keep in mind that 3 people live upstairs and the normal amount of noise should be expected. If you are looking for a Motel 6 or Holiday Inn type accommodation - this is not for you. But if you are interested in living with the real people of the Outer Banks - this might just be perfect. We are a laid back, fun family and offer to share our beautiful property with you and we are available to answer any questions you may have about local restaurants, etc. Whatever it is – having lived here for over 30 years – we’ve either done it, or know someone who has! Completely restored, updated and uniquely furnished, we have missed no detail inside or out. You’ll find a cozy, turn-key-ready home away from home with everything you need for day-to-day relaxation. IMPORTANT NOTES: The property is a 100% smoke-free environment. This includes cigarettes, vapes, cigars, etc....Not only do I not allow smoking inside, this means you can not walk around my yard or stand in my driveway to smoke either. The Backyard was a nice calm after a day at the beach. Location was great, it was close to just about everything and in a nice quiet area of Nags Head. The apartment was clean, well stocked, great towels, and comfy bed. Thank you Sandra for such a great weekend! We'll definitely book for our next Nags Head trip.

We had booked the Backyard a couple of years ago but unfortunately Sandra was unable to host due to an accident. We knew that we wanted to rebook this year because the space looked so special and we’re glad we did!

Exeptional accomodation...clean, spacious, quiet, well stocked kitchen, beach supplies and comfy furniture/bed with great AC and fans for circulation. Private with outside space overlooking the yard. Fun eclectic beach vibe and excellent communication and availability of host. Safe and secure with driveway parking. Location was perfect for exploring north and south of OBX with restaurants and markets abound.
Beaches are beautiful and widlife peaceful areas as well as martime history ( and some history in the air also...😉).

Sandra is very nice and has very good taste. My husband and I enjoyed the beauty of the interior and the beautiful gardens and outdoor patios and dining areas. We had everything at our fingertips and it exceeded out expectations. We slept really well and the inside was super comfortable. Will want to return.

We would stay here again. Sandra was very hospitable, welcoming, happy and kind. The part of her home where we stayed was comfortable, spacious, clean, close to everything and very affordable. Sandra had thought of everything and has done a wonderful job to ensure your vacation is better than you thought it would be, including having amenities you didn’t know you’d need, such as a beach umbrella, umbrella anchor for the sand, beach chairs, bicycles, outside shower to rinse off sand, etc. we are looking forward to coming back and staying here again.

The property is well kept, clean, comfortable and has the most beautiful and eclectic decor! Sandra was so welcoming and gave us all the information we needed about the area to have an amazing trip. Checkin and check out was easy, the kitchen had everything we needed to cook up some amazing meals and she provided beach chairs/umbrella, bikes and all the towels you'll need for a week...not to mention that whatever she washes all of the linens in smells like heaven. I highly recommend this place if you're looking for something that feels as cozy as home.

This was our first time at OBX and everything far exceeded our expectations. The backyard was the perfect home away from home for us. Sandra’s kindness, hospitality and attention to detail was spot on. We loved the short bike ride (bikes provided) to the beach and hanging in the quaint yard. Suggestions for food checked all our boxes and service was great everywhere we went. We truly do not have one complaint. I would give 10 stars if allowed.

Nags Head long weekend beach get away
The location could not have been more convenient to everything we wanted to do. The wedding venue was just down the street. We really enjoyed exploring on the bicycles; it was quick and easy to ride to the beach, restaurants and bars! "The Backyard" was perfect for our needs, and the homey garden vibe was better than a hotel. Thanks Sandra for your hospitality!

Between the Beach and the Sound
This property fits perfectly for our two-day stop at the OBX to experience Nags Head and Kitty Hawk. The one-bedroom apartment is comfortable, quirky, and convenient to the beach and the sound. There is a nice backyard and deck for relaxing as well as beach chairs and bikes. We would rent the property again.

We enjoyed our stay here, and Sandra was a wonderful host. We were unable to use the bikes due to the high winds, but we appreciated that they were there for our use. The location is fantastic here, as we could travel in either direction with no problem. We tried out many of the restaurant suggestions that Sandra has on her list, and we suggest you start there if you're looking for a place to go.
If we go again when it's warmer, we'd look to stay here again.
