About this house rental
Nestled in Marfa, this attractive house for $79 per night is a great option for your next trip. We took this old adobe house down to the mud bricks and remodeled it by hand with mostly reclaimed materials into a super cute warm contemporary cottage. It's an 850 sqr ft one bedroom with hardwood floors throughout. There is a woodstove in the front room and a custom-built 12'x4' daybed that can sleep two in a pinch. Great for lounging side by side in front of the fire. A bathroom floor tiled in pennies, handmade cushions, unique textiles and original art give the house a special Marfa style charm. There is one bathroom with a tub & shower, gas heat, a swamp cooler, full kitchen, big closet, covered back porch and a big fenced back yard with a fire pit. The house is just a block south of the Thunderbird Hotel and Capri bar and restaurant, close to everything in town (everything is close to everything). This house is great for a single person, couple or a close family You can squeeze in a couple more if you're all good friends and don't mind a slumber party. The house is only 850 square feet and has no door on the one bedroom. There is 18mbps wifi, which is fast enough to do regular browsing and streaming but may not be adequate for all work from home needs. It's a small town in a rural area and, believe it or not, this is the fastest internet AT&T offers in town! Nice neighbors, safe, quiet neighborhood (except for passing trains and peacocks) . We enjoyed our visit and would stay here again. Although the house has been rented out for a decade, it feels like someone's home and is welcoming and generous in various small touches and creature comforts. A lot of thought has been put into anticipating the wants and needs of guests. It has many charming details, and you feel well cared for as a guest.
Some aspects of the property have changed and aren't reflected in the description. The stove has been replaced by one that is less interesting but likely easier to use and more familiar; the window AC unit has been replaced by a quieter mini-split system that cools more effectively. However, the photos can be somewhat misleading in that they represent the property at an earlier age. The grass in the backyard has receded dramatically, leaving mostly dirt, and there are a few dead trees, perhaps the result of the extreme weather in 2021. The wood floors are nice but are showing wear and tear evidently due to previous canine guests.
We did encounter an issue with the new AC system early in our stay, and the owner was very responsive despite living out of state. Although it took a couple of days to resolve, we felt she was doing her best to help us resolve the situation.

We had such a great time at FPL. It was the best setup for our trip. We had our pup with us and he enjoyed the backyard and getting to go in and out at his convenience. The house was clean and the bed was comfortable. We loved sitting out on the patio in the evenings and just enjoying the quietness of Marfa. Will be coming back again!

Relaxing and wonderful!
My husband and I spend a glorious four days here for a long weekend, and had the most relaxing and beautiful time. The house is so creatively done, and welcoming. It was cold when we arrived, and the house took a day or two to warm up using the wood stove and gas heaters (one of which struggled a bit to stay on)...but it was really just a great excuse to curl up in front of the stove with blankets and relax. We spent every spare minute in the back yard, swinging in the hammock and the sunshine during the day. We are truly grateful for this sweet house and our time in Marfa seeing the art, and eating yummy food!

Great Marfa House and Location
Lorna's house is really a perfect spot in Marfa when visiting there for a few days. It's classic Marfa architecture, beautiful back yard and a short stroll to the grocery store.

Clean, comfortable and well located
We are grateful for our stay at Fancy Pony Land in Marfa! It was perfectly sized for 2 adults and located within walking distance of many great Marfa highlights.
I give 4 stars as I am a light sleeper and the trains that come through town during the night were very loud! I imagine the only way to not hear the trains would be to stay outside town!

Cute, quirky and comfy
We loved the Fancy Pony Land House (but still really want to know why it is called that!) The property owner and the on-site manager are both super responsive and helpful. There's an awesome binder that explains how everything works along with recommendations on local activities and explanation of the art in the house. We loved the back yard space (the kids adored the hammock) the retro kitchen area (I LOVED the yellow formica table) and the bathroom floor tiled in pennies. Loved less: the old gas stove that I had to light with a match (very cute and charming but I didn't love cooking on it) and the fact that there wasn't a TV. WiFi worked well and although there isn't central air, the cottage was pleasantly cool in the June heat. I stayed here as a solo parent traveling with two young kids and it was perfect for us. I'd strongly recommend this for a couple traveling together looking for a retreat with some artsy charm.
