Great location and property

We had a great time in Madrid. The apartment is steps from metro, restaurants, grocery and shopping. We used the metro daily for our excursions to different parts of Madrid and beyond. The apartment is spacious and has an elevator, so there was no lugging luggage up and down steps. We ate all our meals out so we did not cook in the kitchen. One bedroom was very quiet and the other bedroom was noisy from the street noise, but we were so tired from our excursions that the noise was not an issure. Overall, much, much better than a cramped hotel room for us.

Good luck getting into apt. Need app to enter, apt is on busy street with noise all hours of the night. Bathroom smelled after 1 day...we have since moved on the Sevilla and Barcelona, both places the host greeted us at the apt.
I would not stay in this location again

Had a great stay here! Everything we wanted to do over the week in Madrid was only a 10-15 minute walk away. We were occasionally woken up by people on the street coming back from the bars late at night/early morning, but maybe that’s on us for not being out with them. The apartment was secure and cozy.

We were looking for somewhere central with two bedrooms and space. This property offered all we needed. Nice lift, very clean and modernised apartment and couldn’t be more central. Once I got used to the restaurant below my window it was ¡ ideal !

My 17 year old daughter and I loved our stay here. Incredible location! We felt very safe and there were always a lot of people around plus a police station next door. It is on a pedestrian street so you do not hear sirens all night. The apartment itself has three locked doors you go through to get to your apartment. Stairs are very doable and lighted. Keys work easily. Metro station is steps away along with walkable routes to all of the major sights. There is also a line of taxis by the bakery on the plaza at all times if needed for airport or longer rides. This really is a prime location. There is street noise, but it is Madrid! Suddenly you are eating dinner here at 9 or 10:00! The air conditioners drown out most of the street noise. We would stay here again. Please note for our stay we did need to purchase coffee, soap, shampoo, and kleenex.

We found the place to be in poor condition, not currently suitable to host a family (or any other guests, for that matter), and in urgent need of maintenance and upkeep it to make it acceptable for guests to stay in the future. We have captured several pictures that illustrate my points, I wish there was a way to share them on Homeaway so everyone can see. Below is a list of some of the issues we’ve encountered:
1- Serious sanitary issues
Mold was present throughout the bathroom: in the shower area, in all corners of the shower floors, inside and outside of the shower.
Shower drain was slow and soap accumulates before being able to drain out.
Kitchen, floors and furniture were dusty, or flat out dirty in some cases.
Bathroom under construction
Aside from the sanity issues above, upon arrival we were shown a vanity cabinet pulled out from the wall and sitting on the floor outside the bathroom. The lady that checked us in indicated that was “under repair”.
Shower curtain fell off and had obviously been tried to hang on the wall in the past without success (judging by the marks on the walls)
Overall apartment was worn down.
Furniture was old, showing signs of abuse and damage.
Sofas and beds were dusty and uncomfortable.
Pull-out couch had a mattress that just can’t be slept on, the springs are coming through.
Dining table is beat up at best.
Services are sub-par compared to other properties in this price range.
No personal attention whatsoever (outside of being given the keys and a 60 second walk through of the procedure to return the keys upon departure).
No stock of any kind in the kitchen area.
Only toilet paper provided, no other sanitary supplies.
No coffee machine.
No attention to detail at all.
HomeAway listing is misrepresented.
Photographs are overly staged and show seemingly much larger rooms and better looking furnishings.
Description make it sound like a much higher end accommodation.
Bathroom is tiny, poorly constructed with cheap materials and no amenities.
Overall price does not match level of quality, amenities and service provided.
We are frequent travelers of HomeAway and other similar short term property sites and have stayed at many properties before. We take pride in writing great reviews whenever appropriate, and this is our very first negative review.
Last, but not least, it should be noted that the property owner was contacted about these issues and she never responded.

We had a very good check in experience, thank you Elena. Plenty of space for three adults and lots of natural light. A bit noisy overnight but that's expected right by one of the main squares.

Our host Alfonso was waiting outside when we arrived and was very friendly and welcoming. The apartment was spacious with high ceilings and windows that overlooked the narrow pedestrian lane below. We enjoy cooking and the fully equipped kitchen was a plus, and the Market El Corte Ingles is a 3 minute walk away with a fabulous selection and prices way below what we have at home. We ended up sleeping in the back bedroom, which is far away from the late night partiers who filled the streets until almost dawn. The apartment has a lift, which became more appreciated as the long days of walking came home to roost.

Thank you Marga. Alfonso was waiting for us, we were a little late. he was wonderful and explained everything and gave us a couple tips. The subway station is a 2 min walk but its so centrally located you can walk to anything and we opted to do so several times. The apartment is very comfortable and with 2 room it makes it awesome for couples to keep stuff out off the way. We recommend this apartment. If we return to Madrid some day we will deff stay here.

The apartment couldn't be better located. It is right in the heart of the city and an easy walk to everywhere that we wanted to see.
The beds were very comfortable as was the lounge.
We were there in February and had to use the heating which also worked well.
Some reviews mentioned noise, as this apartment is tucked around the side and back of the building street noise was not a problem for us.
The only thing that could have been improved upon from our point of view would have been better curtains or blinds. The blinds do look really lovely however they don't block out much light and i'm not sure we would have had much privacy from the neighbours had they been in.
My 6 year old daughter loved all the balconies.

The apartment is in a great central location. Close to the Metro and walking distance away from places like Prado Museum, the Royal Palace, or Plaza Mayor. The apartment is comfortable. The two bedrooms are small with full size beds. It was just two of us, so it was great. The host had provided ear plugs, as it can be noisy at night. That was thoughtful and we have slept well. I would recommend staying here.

First of all, the apartment is lovely! It is spacious, bright and charming. The kitchen is a large size and now the apartment has two bedrooms! It was very clean as well and the elevator was great! The owner was very easy to work with.
The location is right in the center of everything. You step out the door onto a large street between the Puerta del Sol and Gran Via. Most places you will want to go are within a 10-15 minute walk or a quick subway ride away (from Sol). While the location is convenient, it is also loud.
The front bedroom abuts a street where everything echoes and the soundproofing leaves a lot to be desired. People are out to 4-5 in the morning so bring ear plugs. The back bedroom was quieter except in early morning because of the some very loud birds in the courtyard. Additionally, this room only has a light shade on the window so the light pours in early and offers little privacy from other apartments. I would also recommend for the owner to leave directions in English for how to use the washer in the kitchen as well.
While I really loved the location for its convenience and the charm of the apartment, if I returned I personally would look for a quieter place. It really depends on what you value.

Marga (and Elena) are incredibly nice and responsive - great communicators and friendly. Marga showed us the apartment the day they finished remodeling it so that it was now a two-bedroom unit - stunning, plenty of room and tastefully decorated. And the location is tough to beat - a two-minute walk to the SOL metro and Puerta del Sol, maybe 5 mins. to walk to the Gran Via station. Amazing location and convenient to all that Madrid has to offer.
The neighborhood isn't as rough as other reviews seem to indicate, but it does live up to the noise. We visited in late-June, the culmination of Pride month, and there was noise until at least 5-6 a.m. People singing, talking, yelling - the apartment overlooks a side-street that serves as an echo chamber. After the first night we slept in the living room on the couches where the noise was dulled.
Noise is the only downside, otherwise a stunning location and beautiful space in the heart of the city.
