A flower garden and fountain make for an exceedingly inviting scene. *The Neighborhood: We are 10 minutes from the airport and 20 to downtown. We're also on the east side of the city, where it's easy to hop on the freeway to the Columbia River Gorge, which is listed as a National Scenic Area. We are in walking distance is Noodle Flat, where many of Portland's Asian restaurants line Sandy Boulevard--and Otto's Wood-Fired Pizza packs 'em in nightly. A major grocery is 3 blocks away, as is the historic Fairley's Pharmacy where you can sit at the lunch counter from the 1920s and order malteds made on the old fashion green machines. Annie's Doughnuts is just around the corner, and their fresh French crullers with maple icing are well worth the stroll. And for those interested in meditation, Dharma Rain Zen Center is 10 minutes by car. Espresso and croissants worthy of Portland's food culture are also 10 minutes by car over at Grand Central Bakery and Jim and Patty's on Fremont, as are brew pubs and Black Bird, an excellent unpretentious wine bar. Our neighborhood is safe to jog in and walk at night. Families with young children grace our block, and parents are often out with their charges for happy hour in the evening--spontaneous street gatherings at which guests are always welcome. Happy trails...We hope to see you soon. NOTE: The Johnson House donates a portion of its proceeds to the following: The Carter Center, BARK: Defender & Restorer of Mt. Hood, and the ACLU.

This is the perfect space for a single or couple visiting Portland. It's in a nice neighborhood, close to many things, and it feels private and secluded at the same time. Quiet and cozy, but has everything you need. So much better than a hotel!

My husband and I stayed in Grandpa's Bunkhouse a number of years ago and our stay this year was a bit like coming home again. Jean welcomed us and our two cats back. She went above and beyond to make our stay as pleasant as possible. We stayed two weeks spending a lot of time with our son and his family who live nearby. The Bunkhouse was a cozy and safe home base for us and the cats. I have no doubt we'll be staying again on our next visit from Minnesota.

This is a small, sweet space that has everything one needs to be comfortable. We especially loved hanging out on the cottage porch taking in the fabulous garden. There's lots here to appreciate. And, our host, Jean, was super in helping us navigate our Portland stay; she was an absolute gem.

The house was really cute with a great shower in a beautiful bathroom. The bed was comfortable. The house was private and cozy even though there are nearby shared spaces. The map of neighborhood attractions is fun. The owner, Jean, is a delightful person. We really enjoyed our stay.

Jean was the best, a discreet host of this extremely comfortable cottage. I had a completely comfortable stay during a working visit to Portland. Returning to Roseway after an active and tiring day was a pleasure. Utterly accommodating 5 star host.

This was one of the best places I've stayed at in my life. It's a solid, comfortable building that's filled with history. It's decorated with classic pictures, historical paperwork, etc. There's a huge dictionary from 1938 that gives perspective on language over time. Too much good stuff to write about. 5 stars!

The decor included unique family historical items that were very interesting. My own grandpa was a mechanic at a garage, so the environment was homey for us. We especially liked the well loved poker chips and cards! The shower really was 5 star. We could walk to nearby family and for food and shopping. The neighborhood was still in fall color display, beautiful.

beautiful cabin/cottage tucked in Portland, OR. Close to everything, but back out of the way so it is quiet and relaxing. The owner was very nice and helpful. We would definitely return.

This is a compact, but lovely space. The unit is nicely finished. It is fully equipped. It is very convenient to 84, 205 and the airport. The neighborhood is quiet at night. It is perfect for a single person or a couple.

The unusually warm weather has been thoroughly enjoyed with me and the garden basking in the sun. I've had nice walks in the neighborhood. The host has a marked map on the wall ofplaces nearby to visit. The Bunkhouse is perfect for my needs. I love how Grandfather's belongings aren't tucked away, but are on display and add to the charm.
The bathroom and kitchen sinks are super cool, too!

A lot of properties describe themselves like Grandpa's Garage, but few live up to those descriptions. The place was clean, had easy access to local transportation, and was nice and quiet at night. The small water fountain was a nice touch. That really helps drown out any ambient city noises.

This little house is adorable and has what you need for a trip to Portland. It’s close to a bus line, easy access to the freeway, couple of places in walking distance. The cottage was rustic but comfortable. 10 out of 10 recommend.

I really found the property to be very comfortable and welcoming. It had everything I needed. Thoughtfully decorated with items reflecting that the owner's grandfather had owned the space and had used it as a garage. You wouldn't know that it was ever a garage, it was a lovely cottage. I have recommended it to family who might be visiting Portland, and hope to stay again when I visit Portland in the future

Quite tiny house next to a garden. Very relaxing and calming place. I really enjoyed my stay here.

Very small and intimate. Maybe a tad 1 too many pieces of furniture for the size of the dwelling, but this still did not take away from how nice our stay was. Jean is super kind and her eco friendly yard is what we all should strive to do.

Jean met me at check-in...very nice lady that provided a clean, quiet, comfortable stay. Her backyard garden fronts the converted "Grandpa's Shop," where I stayed. It's something of a little oasis. During the hot weather, the air conditioning was sure nice! Lots of screens allowed for a cool breeze during the evening. Really nice shower!
Jean provided a map that showed the nearby grocery stores, pharmacy, doughnut shop (!), and other important spots. Jean was very accommodating and I would be happy to stay there again.

The perfect place for me!
I was here to visit my daughter and her family (no extra room at her place) and it was a perfect place with easy on and off 250. It's a great place for the mornings and evenings with that "feel good, homey environment" one enjoys when away from their home! Thank you Jean for providing it!

We enjoyed the short time spent in this lovely space. The home was cozy and filled with meaningful examples of family history. We loved the beautiful tiles throughout the place, inside (bathroom and floor), and outside on patio. The garden offered a wonderful view out the double doors, a bounty of organic plants, and fragrant flowers. Jean was a very pleasant host.

Nice place
We are retired in our 70s with a small dog. The accommodations at Grandpa's are nice, albeit it a bit smaller than we expected at 360 sq.ft. That was our fault for not seeing the size. Kitchen is well equipped, bed comfortable and bathroom nice. Area for tv viewing with two chairs. Storage for clothing and suitcases (we had two large and two small) is a bit tight. Jean accommodated our dog. Please note there is a picture in the photo section that is not in the apartment, one with a small sofa, looks like a gray two seater. Sofa did not exist. Recommend this be updated.
Overall a nice place.

Grandpa's Cabin was a wonderful place to stay!
We had a lovely stay at Jeans Grandfathers Cabin. She is an excellent communicator and all was as she described. We brought our little dog who found herself at home in the garden (and immediately loved Jean!) We wish there was room when we return at Christmas. Thanks for the lovely stay!

Very well located and good neighborhood area. Close to places to eat and shop and close to airport.
