Honestly this was our favorite stay in all of our one month trip in Japan. As a couple we stayed mostly in AirBnBs with self-check-in, but it was so nice to be in a guesthouse. Shio-san and his family have put so much love, care, and thought into the space. It's so cheery from the moment you walk into the entry way until you leave. The rooms are comfortable (we love a Japanese futon "Floor bed" as we call them), the shower hot and with good pressure, the breakfast is serve yourself but with so many options, and it was delightful every time we got to speak with Shio-san. We loved the village feel of the location and the guesthouse is located directly on the Eizan railway line and multiple bus lines so it was very easy to get to all the tourist attractions in Kyoto while not being directly in the mayhem. There is also a konbini right across the street and numerous restaurants nearby. We definitely would come back and stay again, and we plan to!
We didn't have a problem with it, but just so others know - the Eizan line passes directly behind the guesthouse so trains are frequent but stop completely at midnight. We never had a problem sleeping after 30,000 steps per day!

Unlimited access to a well stocked pantry
Futon could be just a little thicker. Still slept through the night. Maybe just not for sensitive people.

Location is right by the rails, you will hear the trains but this also means they are quick and easy to get on. There's also a good bus stop nearby. The hosts are a delight to talk to, very helpful and very friendly!
Breakfast is self service from the items they have on hand but there's a wide range and good cooking facilities so you can start the day well.
Close to the wilderness for exploring and also some very good ramen shops!
