This was my second stay at the HM Grand Central Hotel in Phnom Penh because we had a great time the last time we stayed here but things seem to have gone downhill.
We were in Room 1012 the Grand Suit Room this time. Last time we had the Deluxe Double Room, which may explain why the bed, while still generous, was smaller.
The area around the hotel is one of the better districts of Phnom Penh with plenty to choose from regarding restaurants, laundry, hairdressers, skin care including laser surgery, Khmer massage, high-end dentists, and local shops.
The breakfasts were problematic. The first morning, no one was manning the station and the selection was poor. Apparently, there were not many guests, and the staff were told to offer food from the normal menu. (Anyone for Spaghetti Bolognesi for breakfast?!?) I noticed a small cockroach crawling on the ham toasties and killed it with the sign. When I told the cook, she apologized but there was no rush to clean it up.
The next day, breakfast was only stuff from the day menu (1 drink, 2 mains, and 1 appetizer). I like two coffees in the morning, and they were able to give me this. The food was subpar. And there were not many breakfast food options other than noodles or rice porridge.
The third day saw the buffet breakfast return. The restaurant is mediocre at best. Later, I ordered Khmer Curry and Sour Soup as room service, and even my Khmer friend thought it was not very good quality.
The Wi-Fi was spotty, sometimes non-existent, which was enough for me to think that this would be my last stay in this hotel. I needed Internet connection for a few things and not having it really inconvenienced me several times.
There was a bathtub in the washroom, which was huge. I didn’t use it but it is big enough for two people. The shower did not have a glass door to stop the water getting into the rest of the room, but the bathroom was big enough that this could be managed.
The swimming pool was great, but the spas are horrible. I was not sure whether the water was treated properly and decided not to risk it.

There was one small trashcan (other than one in the bathroom). Could do with another or a larger one.

The room I stayed was a big and spacious one. The bed could have been a bit softer.
For the 5 days I stayed I got the same breakfast. The food was tasteless and blank. No variety at all.
The staff was not friendly and helpful at all and they couldn't understand English.
