Nestled in Grand Marais, this attractive house for $313 per night is a great option for your next trip. Location: Grand Marais Grand Marais House of Light is a custom home located in the heart of Grand Marais, MN. With every detail crafted by the area’s top home builders, with sustainable practices in mind such as cork floors, this light wood-paneled home creates a bright and airy feeling. Large windows allow in natural light while the foliage and fencing surrounding the home providing solitude and privacy. Just two blocks from Grand Marais Harbor, you are easy walking distance to downtown Grand Marais art galleries, shopping, and sites, while being centrally located to many wilderness outdoor activities available on the North Shore. Only a few miles away are state parks, beaches, the Gunflint Trail, hiking, canoeing, kayaking, paddle boarding, biking, cross-country skiing, snowmobiling trails, and so much more. You will find adventure year-round in Grand Marais. If you are traveling with a large group or arriving for a family gathering, the properties Downtown Treehouse, Grand Marais House of Light, Grand Marais Retreat, and Hillside Harbor are all located near one another. Each family or small group can have their own space while still being near one another. Construction is going on in the detached garage, which is currently being converted to a master bedroom suite. The completion date is TBD. When booked, our construction team will not be working on the property. When the suite is completed, this addition will make this home a 3-bed, 2-bath.

Very convenient to Grand Marais.

I decided to take a few days to myself and found this little gem last minute. I've used a lot of VRBO's, but this one really exceeded my expectations. The cleanest place I've ever seen by far. I don't know how new it is, but it actually smells new. Well decorated. The space is super cozy, tons of windows. Close to downtown, so I walked everywhere. And really quiet at night. It would be nice if there was a grill....I didn't see one. Grand Marais is so small that some restaurants are randomly closed certain nights, so I likely would have grilled out if there was a grill. But otherwise, they have everything you need. I appreciate they have most of the essentials already. But do pick up some coffee! When it came time to leave, I was actually sad. I could have stayed another week easy. I will 100% be back.

Everything about this beautiful house is spot on. Great location too! We were really delighted by the detain and privacy of this home. Very thoughtfully done! Being central in grand marais was a lot of fun. No car needed unless we we were out hiking.

Beautiful little house for a nice get away week! My husband skied and I was able to work remotely, it was fantastic to have a monitor available to plug into! Great location, house amenities were five stars!

This was one of the best VRBO stays we’ve had. The house was clean, conveniently located, and beautiful! The fireplace was wonderfully cozy. It had all the amenities we needed including a washer and dryer. The only negative was the gas stove cooks really hot and we had to adjust for that. We’re used to cooking with gas at home so it wasn’t us! All told, we had a great stay!

The house of light was as promised. It was bright, airy and modern. The house had everything we needed for a long weekend stay in Grand Marais and the location in proximity to shops, coffee and the water was just right. My only complaint is that we couldn’t stay longer.

We felt like we were on a trip across the ocean( Lake Superior) while staying in a quaint, yet beautiful, home, away from home.
We will plan to return in the future, after we save up for the next journey!!

We really enjoyed the light house and it was better than expected. The amenities, the space, the privacy was wonderful. We look forward to the additional space that will be made when the back building is completed. We will rent again and bring additional family members. The garbage is a little inconvenient but we made it work. Overall, this is incredible property.

Beautiful, quiet home is a short walk to town
We have stayed at the House of Light twice and it is a gorgeous property with hand built wood interior and lovely enclosed and private yard. Walk out the door and you are steps from the town of Grand Marais, or hole up and enjoy the peace and quiet. We'll return.

Summer Retreat
Great location, short walk to downtown, the beach and all the restaurants. Enjoyed the wild raspberries in the courtyard that were just ripening during our stay. The hammock for 2 under the majestic pine trees was also a pleasant surprise. Fantastic accommodations!! Only criticism was having to haul trash all the way to the office in Lutsen for disposal at the end of the stay.

Beautiful!
Beautiful house, perfect size and layout, and definitely not lacking in lights! Would 100% stay here again. Kitchen had everything we needed for light food prep, beds were pretty comfortable, hot water was plentiful, and the house was very cozy for our early winter trip. The only thing I found myself missing was a more substantial comforter/duvet on the bed (I prefer sleeping in a cool room with warm covers, and we had to make do with a warm room and cool covers), but next time I will probably just bring my own down duvet. Be sure to read the online welcome book (linked in an email after you make your reservation) for departure instructions to avoid extra fees!

Absolutely stay here!
Grand Marais is one of the cutest towns up north. Trails are great and not busy, the colors are absolutely stunning, and the town has everything you need. There are a lot of run down hotels, motels, and vacation homes in the area.
This house was absolutely perfect. You can’t get a better location. A block or two from brewery, great restaurants, and small town shops. Which is perfect for quiet streets but still with being close to everything.
The house itself is the best. Brand new, beautifully decorated, spotless, everything you need to make food or store it. Comfy beds, good water pressure, and so spacious!
The only complaint I would have would be their Roku streaming system. It would fast forward or rewind out of nowhere and would happen a lot. But to honest, that’s Roku being crappy at their steaming service not house itself, so not an issue in the scale of things. I feel bad even mentioning it but it is worth knowing about it. It is higher in the nightly rate range in the area but hands down worth every penny.
I would absolutely stay here every time! My fiancé looked at almost every decor item to find out where everything was from cause he liked it so much hahaha

The perfect place in Grand Marais
The House of Light is truly a gem - beautifully designed, immaculately clean, well furnished with what you'll need for the stay, and perfectly located. I don't think I can say too much positive about it, and the only reason I don't want to say more is that everyone else will book it and then we won't be able to. It's a little expensive, but you get what you pay for, and we were just delighted with it from start to finish. Having to take away your own trash is a little bit of a pain, but not enough to bring it down from five stars.
Not only did we love it, but we took photos for inspiration because of how beautifully designed it was - just in case we ever build a house of our own.

Convient but Quirky
This property is located right in the heart of Grand Marais. Easy walk to everything. Newer construction but quirky features. The lock on the front door is pure trial and error. Not user friendly. The back door lock never worked and was reported to management, who was very responsive and promised to fix it. Numerous light switches all over with labels. Noting intuitive.
If you like Roku TV and understand it, or went to MIT, youre good to go. If you want to watch TV with the turn of a switch, this place is not for you.
Overall it worked for us, Just wish a few amenities were more user friendly.

Great spot
We had a great five day stay. The house was in a perfect location for walking a couple blocks to the center of town and to the lakes. It was comfortable and cozy with great spots for reading, both inside and out. We would definitely stay here again.
