purtroppo il climatizzatore era guasto e ha inciso sul benessere anche notturno…il proprietario, gentilissimo si è prodigato per la riparazione ma il guasto era troppo profondo per essere risolto in breve tempo e a casa occupata

I would suggest that the host consider a lockbox or other means by which clients may check-in at any time of day. The host maintains that my delay of arrival of 50 minutes justifies a nearly 2.5 hour waiting time to check-in . At the expected arrival time, the host might have called to find out how long I was delayed--instead he departed and left the key with his neighbor who also departed. At 3pm when I phoned him to say I was locked out, instead of taking a reconciliatory attitude (for example he could have offered an ice cream while he tried to reach other persons who hold the key) , he yelled that it was my fault because I did not respect the stated arrival time of 1-2pm . Furthermore he stated that respect for time is the norm in France and I should respect the French norm. The host simply told me that I will have to wait. No other option: period. The belligerent and accusatory attitude of the host does completely dissuade me from ever returning to this establishment. I am also surprised that Booking.com was not more proactive in getting the host to find a solution . I had to call back a second time before finding a Booking .com agent who more actively managed the situation.
It seems exceptionally strict to hold clients to a one-hour window of arrival , given that flights and shuttles are often delayed. Surely 50 minutes of delay for check-in during mid-afternoon does not merit such recriminations as I received.
I would also suggest that the host perhaps considers adopting a more negotiating attitude toward clients when issues arrive. The social nicety would be a "plus" to the physical nicety of this establishment.
