About this house rental
Located in Biwabik, this charming house for $299 per night is a fantastic option for your next break. The Green Gate Barn Home is a one of four cozy vacation rentals on a private 13 acre farmstead (see my other listings for details). We are conveniently located adjacent to the Giants Ridge Recreation Area. Our guests enjoy direct access to the Mesabi Bike Trail, skiing and golfing at Giants Ridge, and lounging at the beaches of Embarrass Lake just a short walk from our door. We are a year-round destination, catering to nordic and alpine skiers, cyclists, paddlers, golfers and those simply choosing to relax at our historic homestead retreat. Green Gate is a truly unique barn home, combining all the modern amenities with the rustic charm of the original 1935 hay barn that inspired the project. The 3 bed , 1.5 bath guest house can accommodate up to 5-6 people. A well-appointed kitchen, dining room, and comfortable lounge area with cable TV and WiFi make Green Gate your home-away-from-home. Guests can also enjoy campfires, explore the surrounding countryside, or relax at a lake beach just a few minutes away. Green Gate Guest Houses is a sustainable lodging facility. We support sustainable tourism by following strict green building standards, choosing environmentally-conscious purchases, adopting energy conservation and renewable energy technologies, using environmentally friendly products and supporting non-motorized recreation. Located 1.5 miles from Biwabik and 3 miles from Giants Ridge Golf and Ski Resort. Direct access to the Mesabi Bike Trail and Snowmobile Trails. Water access for swimming and paddling nearby, and 1/4 mile from Superior National Forest Scenic Byway.

Magical. Loved that snowshoes were available and we could snowshoe through the property woods and onto the Mesabi Trail. We filled the roundtable room with food, laughter and game night! A heavenly retreat into the great North Woods!

My husband and I Came up to go snowmobiling. When I found the barn my husband was skeptic but we both loved it! The barn was so nicely done and had everything available for a lovely stay. I would absolutely stay there again. We had a great weekend and the barn and location were the most instrumental in that!

The exposed wood in the interior is primarily reclaimed wood from the original barn which stood on the location, and it makes for a warm and homey atmosphere. And the space is used very efficiently so that the interior feels bigger than it looks from the outside. The kitchen was equipped very well and was stocked with many of the basics needed for cooking, including a great spice assortment and staples such as sugar, flour, olive oil and vinegar. Shawn was very responsive when we contacted him, and we enjoyed every minute of our stay. We hope to be back someday!

Family getaway
Our stay at the Green House Guest Cottages was just perfect! Everything we needed was there for us to have a relaxing and enjoyable vacation for our family before sending our three kids off to college. We walked the trails and paths surrounding the property every day, cooled off at the lake, built fires in the evening and outdoor yoga in the morning. The home itself was cozy and well-stocked (loved the spices!!!). Not sure if were were just lucky, but the weather was pleasant, even when it rained - there were very few bugs and the area was so clean. We especially loved the hammocks on the property. Thanks Shawn, we really enjoyed our stay!

Owner has thought of everything
We spent 5 nights at the Barn Home next to Giants Ridge and loved it. Not only is it close to wonderful golf, but also more than 135 miles of the most beautiful and well maintained biking/walking trails along the Mesabi trail line. No need to take your car as there is a trail that connects right to the property. Furthermore, everything we needed was right there. Firewood, kindling, chairs, yard games, games for inside, even kitchen spices in case you forgot something. Not only is the owner's craftsmanship impressive, but also his ability to ensure his guests enjoy their vacation. Shawn really did a wonderful job!!!

Storybook setting for a girls’ getaway
The property was charming, quiet, comfortable and immaculate. This is my 3-4 time here, and I will continue to look for opportunities to come back.

Wonderful house with beautiful unique features
This is a cozy unique house! All rooms were clean and the no smoking, stocking feet request was right in line with our personal home rules.
Plenty of kitchen culinary supplies and coffee! which you will need since there is nothing nearby.
Unfortunately the weather kept us from hiking as we would have liked -our reason for staying so rural- and our stay wasn’t long enough to stock up and cook.
The closest best restaurant we found was in Ely (Insula) almost an hour away.. unless you drive back after dark in a continuous downpour on freshly paved roads without striping and it becomes and hour plus.
We loved the nice towels. All three beds were comfy, although the smaller one squeaked at the slightest movement. The shower was a little bit of a challenge until you figure out how to make it work, and kept the curtain contained. Overall a great place to stay.

Awesome
The barn was so cozy we spent most of our time there. The barn is well appointed with modern appliances and a well stocked kitchen. The master bedroom has a sleep number bed which was a treat for us. We had fires every night at the fire pit with the complimentary wood and cooked out on the grill. There is a nice grocery store in Biwabik, which is only a few minutes drive from the barn which is well stocked and acceptably priced. There are other homes on the property but all are spaced to ensure privacy. Overall a wonderful three day weekend.

Wonderful!
Everything about the Barn Home was perfect ..very clean, all the basic amenities (plus many extras :) It is so unique, and we really loved all the history in the home. We only wish we could've had more time the explore the beautiful property and surrounding areas. Shawn was wonderful to work with and very accessible. If we ever happen to be in Minnesota again we know where to go! Thanks for everything :)

This was a repeat visit for us. We've stayed there several times. Every year we are newly impressed by Shawn's attention to detail. He is a charming host. He keeps his properties in excellent condition and he is very accommodating. His creativity is a wonder to behold. The property is a lovely setting in the midst of nature and yet close to activities.

Great Stay!
It was fun to stay at this unique property while we were at Giant's Ridge for a ski race. Last year we stayed in the farmhouse. Both properties are well equipped and comfy. We will be back for sure!

The Green Gate barn home is perfectly charming!
Our long NYE weekend at Green Gate was just what my family needed. The barn home is so charming! Shawn has done a fantastic job, paying attention to even the smallest details. The house is well-appointed with in-floor heating, induction cooktop, high-efficiency dishwasher, and clawfoot tub to name a few. We were never cold despite overnight temps dipping as low as -27 degrees during our stay. The grounds are gorgeous, as well. An Instagrammer's dream come true. :) We really enjoyed exploring, playing in the snow, toasting marshmallows by the campfire, and even a little winter grilling. Shawn made the entire stay very easy and comfortable. We felt right at home. I am counting down the days until our next visit!

Extremely enjoyable stay. Loved it!
The barn home is very comfortable and well appointed. Our party of four adults stayed here for a weekend Golf outing. The kitchen is very well stocked, including ample dishes, pans and spices. The beds are comfortable, and the kitchen table cannot be beat. Take time to enjoy the fire pit with the free wood and kindling. The owner, Shawn, is very responsive.

Unique and Creative
This is our third stay in the Barn Guest House. This vacation place is unique and Shawn is so creative with all of his buildings. He is a gracious host and truly wants everyone to have a great experience when you stay with him. It is a prime location for golfing, skiing, and biking or just plain relaxing. His rentals are well equipped and comfortable. You won't be disappointed if you chose to stay here.

We felt right at home 6+ hours away!
The Green Gate Guest Homes are an absolute dream to stay at. Immediately when we stepped through the door we felt right at home and could tell that Shawn put so much thought and time into making this Barn Home a fantastic spot to rest and relax. We were able to tour his other buildings on the property and they are made with the same amount of quality and care. If you get a chance to meet and talk with Shawn, definitely do! He has a lot of stories about what went in to renovate and build his homes and it makes them that much more impressive. We are already talking about when we can stay again!

My daughter, her three friends, and I stayed for a long weekend. What a beautiful place, and Shawn was a fantastic place. Wonderful for a bachelorette party weekend that included ample relaxation around the fire. Fully furnished and a wonderful location. I'd definitely stay again if back in this area.

We (3 30ish ladies) deeply loved the barn! We were gathered for a spring weekend away from our families to play cards, have drinks, and generally disconnect from real life. This was the perfect storybook setting to do that! We initially had booked the tiny log home, but when Shawn realized there were 3 of us, he offered this for a nominal fee more. The barn was the most charming setting that I've ever had the pleasure to call mine (even if just for a bit). The craftsmanship is wonderful. Shawn also gave us the run of the land - it was warm one day, and we set lawn chairs in the river and drank margaritas in solitude. Thank you, Shawn! You are a great craftsman and host!

The Green Gate Barn Home is impeccably maintained and impressively built! We couldn't believe all the detail and thought that went into this cozy, amazing little home, from the staircase that lights up as you go up or down, to the birthday candles in a kitchen drawer. Every detail is taken care of to make your stay as relaxing and stress-less as possible. You will want to move in and stay forever!
