The cottage is small, cozy, clean and quiet, which is everything we wanted. It's a bit off the “center”, but that could be managed with a short walk. However, you should definitely plan a shopping trip to Wick or Thurso. Mrs. Houston, the landlady, is such a lovely, polite person. And her suggestions were gold.

Excellent location for exploring the area. Mrs. Houston has a wealth of information about the area and places to walk. Well equipped kitchen, very clean and comfortable.

The house was spacious and comfortable, spotlessly clean and the facilities were clean and in good working order. The location was fabulous, 20 minutes' walk from John O'Groats, and 10 minutes from the seashore, a beautiful rocky beach. The landlady was lovely and kind, very responsive. The field just outside had a rare breed herd of sheep with the cutest lambs we were allowed to help bottle feed and pet (field rented by another farmer, also lovely).
Only tiny things, certainly not detracting from our enjoyment of the stay.
The main difficulty was lack of worktop space for food preparation, and certain small implements like a tin can opener that didn't work, and no dish drainer. There was an excess of furniture like chairs, but very few mugs and glasses. like I said, tiny things.
The bigger issue had nothing to do with the property: the John O'Groats ferry to Orkney has been discontinued, and the closest one has limited capacity and is oversubscribed. The next nearest is all the way in Thurso, so 40-45 minutes away. This is also where the nearest supermarket is, so be aware there is no quick access to fresh food, with a 1.5 hour return trip.
