Before booking, I read few negative reviews that I nearly chose another hotel. I'm genuinely glad I didn't, because my experience in this hotel was great.
Yes, this is a classic-style hotel, but doesn't mean it's run-down.
It has the atmosphere of a traditional grand hotel rather than a modern minimalist property. The moment you enter the grand lobby, with the beautiful staircases leading to the mezzanine on both sides, you get the feeling of a traditional, grand elegant hotel. More importantly, everything was very clean and very well maintained, nothing like the impression some reviews gave me.
The location is a great highlight. The hotel is right by the Pearl River and you can walk along the river towards Canton Tower and the Flower Park area, making it a fantastic place for an evening and sightseeing.
The room views of the Pearl River and Canton Tower are also a major plus if you get the right room, so it's worth the cost paying for the rooms with the better view (see photos).
The reception staff were lovely, accommodating and their English was good. From check-in to check-out, they made my stay very comfortable.
The facilities were another pleasant surprise. The gym is not just a small hotel fitness room with few machines. It is large and well equipped. There are also both, indoor (for laps swim workouts) and outdoor swimming pools, plus spa/wellness facilities. These are the kind of amenities I would normally expect to find in a higher-end hotel, so having them here adds considerable value to the stay.
And one small thing I really appreciated: complimentary bottled water was provided generously every day. I've stayed in some 5-star hotels where you only get water on arrival, so this was a genuinely nice touch.
Overall, the hotel was far better than the negative reviews made me expect. This hotel deserves much more credit than some of the reviews give it.
I would gladly stay here again.

For the combination of the price, location and facilities I found this hotel really is an excellent deal. The views from the room over the river were wonderful and it was a pleasant walk downtown via the boulevard along the river. The swimming pool and fitness center were really great. We were travelling as a family and we enjoyed spending daytime hours in the pool and going out and enjoying the amazing city lights in evening, a perfect experience for our holiday in China !
I have been in Guangzhou before and I don't think you can find a better price/quality/location ratio than here...
It would be great if the hotel could add a few more chairs and umbrella's by the pool.

gym is very old, equipment is not good at all, the room accessories are very old, sofa is not good at all, i paid room with breakfast, but hotel didn’t accept, they told me wrong information finally they took money 250 cny for 2 person for each morning breakfast, i will never come to this hotel again,
