location is super great --- just few hundred metres from Koln central station. hotel is on a street where you can easily find meals from 6.00 to 22.00 (very rare in Germany) --- and is, at the same time rather quiet. reception is available from 10.00 (usually earlier) to 22.00.
staff is very kind --- they are trying to help you with small issues you have even if this is unrelated to their hotel.
there is no shower in the room (they probably tell it in the description, but I managed to miss it). if you go shower early and forget the card for your room, you will have to wait until reception arrives (that's what happened to me on my last night at the hotel).

the beds are uncomfortable if you are a couple as theres space in the middle, bathroom could be better equipped/upgraded, too expensive for these facilities

Room was larger than expected and location was near a lot of different food options and the main train station
Everything was fine until check out. When I checked in I stated I would need to store my luggage the next day when I would be checking out. The man told me check out would be at 11 but reception would not open until noon. I expressed I wanted to store my luggage so what would I do for that hour and eventually he said someone would be there when I check out at 11 to store my luggage.
In the morning, at 11 o'clock, I found that the reception was closed and no one was there. I messaged the hotel and they responded quickly but said no one would be there until noon. I explained the situation and they offered for me to leave my luggage in my room and that they would bring it down later. This was nice of them to offer however I had already dropped off my room key so I couldn't get back into my room.
Eventually I just said I would be back at noon to store my luggage and they said that was fine. Showed up at 12:10 and a man was there but just told me "10 minutes" and kept flashing his hands at me telling him I needed to wait 10 more minutes. I was confused and he didn't say why, but I think it was because the actual receptionist was late.
At 12:20 the receptionist showed up and was confused by me wanting to store my luggage, and seemed to have no idea what was happening, took about 5 minutes for him to understand what I meant. (Part of this was a language barrier but I'd hope the idea of luggage storing would make sense, and I had messages with the hotel explaining the situation).
Because of this I had to run to make a tour that I had booked.
On top of that, normally the reception would be open until 8 or 10pm, but they said they would close at 5 today so I needed to grab my luggage before 5.
Overall, I appreciate that they tried to help me out, but it is a terrible system to require check out before the reception is open. I don't understand why they wouldn't push check out to the same time reception opens.
