I booked a single room here for two nights on short notice as a base for a whole-day hike (Kleine Reibn). The location was good for this, with free parking, 15 min by car to the start of the hike, 10 min to a supermarket and to Königssee, and dinner options within walking distance. The room was dated, reasonably clean, a bit shabby like the rest of the hotel, but OK if you plan to just shower and sleep there while spending the rest of the day outside. Interaction with the staff was very limited, and it was clear that they didn't speak much German, but we could make each other understood.
Everything in this hotel is old (and not in a charming way), cheap, and service is kept to an absolute minimum (e.g., staff present at the front desk only for minutes at a time). The bed was too short for a guy of my height (1.89 m) and groaned whenever I moved. As it also proved difficult to shade the room with the thin curtain provided, and the whole building is poorly soundproofed, I didn't get as much sleep as I had hoped for. The room rate is cheap for the area, but value for money is still below par. For a "sports hotel", offering breakfast no earlier than 8 am is inconvenient, but I figure the name is historic like the place itself. The breakfast as such was OK for the price, but plastic cups for cold drinks and tissue boxes instead of napkins left a really chintzy impression.
