Classy hotel, expensive but you mostly get what you paid for.

Tv in our room did not work. Our room was beautiful but we were on the very top floor with no lift. At aged 74 I struggled a little. It was our second visit here, the first time was exactly 25 years ago to the day when we were married there. I pointed this out at time of booking and maybe expected some recognition of the event which was huge for us. Nothing was forthcoming, that’s not a criticism just a slight disappointment.

Storied building, excellent decor, beautiful, comfortable rooms and beds. The views were incredible and the breakfast was good.

While the setting of the hotel was stunning, the grounds around it beautiful, and the building itself wonderfully decorated, there were several issues with service levels and staff that did NOT befit a five star establishment one bit. First up, arriving on the dot at 3pm and our room was still not ready! We had to wait 15 minutes or so with a sleeping child who needed a bed. At one point, calling the front desk led to no response/no one picking up - clearly they were understaffed. We asked for the food tray to be taken away, and no one arrived to take it away for hours until late that night or the next morning by which point we had finally decided to carry it and leave it outside our door ourselves. Calling the front desk to ask for extra soap in the morning resulted in an abrupt 'sure' and then I was hung up on! Even a 3 star hotel has more polite staff - 'of course, we will have that sent right away. Is there anything else you require?' is the standard line! Calling to book a taxi or change our dinner reservations led to having three calls, with the message being passed on to someone else, and then waiting for the manager to call us back just to sort some basic administrative stuff. And the worst insult was when we arrived back from our dinner at the pub, we decided to sit in the lounge for a bit. While the other guests were being offered teas and asked if they wanted any whiskies, NO ONE bothered to ask us if we would like anything at all even when they saw us sitting there. My husband had to walk over to find someone to place an order for a whiskey/tea. And then he had to bring it to the table himself. Such discrimination and ignorance in the staff I have never seen at a five star establishment, especially for a stay which cost us more than £1000 a night. It was a disgrace. Our stay was lovely because the physical aspects of the hotel were truly lovely, but the service levels were beyond belief. It felt really dysfunctional.

The breakfast was of good quality but not very extensive

Inverlochy hotel's price/quality is totally out of balance. Comparing to the Cromlix where we were the days before. No welcome drink at arrival/ bad matrass/old material/ no extra toiletpaper in the bathroom/ the staff was too formal and distant/ no terrace open/ no fresh fruit in the rooms or chocolate.
