The hotel has great potential but needs a lot of work. The staff was very sweet and accommodating, we asked to switch rooms and the receptionist made it happen which was greatly appreciated. The restaurant staff is also very accommodating with special requests and anything we asked for was answered graciously. The setting is cool, with a pretty terraced restaurant space, in the middle of a pine forest. Outside of Aix but not that far - you can reach the city in 15 minutes and still enjoy a pool when you need to cool off after exploring.
The list of improvements is long. The hotel was recently purchased and is in the midst of renovations and an identity change. We questioned if it needed to be open during that phase as the guest experience is suffering. There is construction going on in the restaurant space although the work/noise does not start too early, it is very messy looking. The pool needs clean up earlier in the day. The common spaces are not cleaned regularly, dust and other debris remained in the same spot for the duration of our stay. Walls need a fresh coat of paint. Some of the rooms are very low comfort, needing some renovations (holes in the walls, water damage stains). The first room we were assigned had a very strong chemical smell from the cleaning solutions (we assumed), but they graciously moved us.
The breakfast needs some work as well. Recommendation to set it up outside while the restaurant is renovated instead of the room currently used which is cramped and not super nice. Tables not set upon arrival, lack of pastries on the first day (not the second day), staff scrambling around trying to keep up with guests demand.
Overall the staff is trying really hard to maintain but there seems to be a lack of direction or support from management.
