Porta Castellana B&B - Apartment

Travelling with a mobility impaired spouse, we needed to bring two short ramps to enter and exit our ground floor room. It is difficult to find a very good accommodation in Tuscany that can appropriately handle such a travel need. If you can accommodate one short step up and down this will work well for you. The location is excellent with a reasonable 10 to 15 minute walk to the heart of Montalcino. We arrived during a summer heat wave, but the A/C was able to keep the two rooms at a comfortable temperature for our entire stay. The bed was comfortable.

The parking area and access to the room is gravel stone. You could not use a handicapped device with narrow wheels. Our scooter has wide wheels and sometimes still got bogged down in the thick gravel. It is possible to temporarily bring your car directly to the door to access the room and avoid this problem. The bathroom is not really handicapped accessible, but we were able to make it work with some maneuvering. Not being familiar with Montalcino, it was very difficult to find the location of the property, but we soon found ourselves oriented.

Staff was super friendly and excellent communicators. They went out of their way to accommodate our comfort, going so far as proactively changing the breakfast based on what we ate the first day.

Breakfast was amazing! The views and grounds were fabulous and the town was incredible!
