The location is great. The male bath is amazing, with outside pool. We could use borrowed traditional clothing and slippers enhancing the experience.
We stayed 2 nights. The first night we tried the traditional dinner, we think it was quite expensive for the value delivered. The optional continental breakfast I chose in the second morning was underwhelming with some small bits of fruit, one toast and one yogurt (it is better to order the japanese one).

Service was exceptional. Best we had in japan. Location was the best you can stay at in takayama, great view on the river, wonderful sound. Right next to the historic district, close to the market and close to the park.
Massages offered in room, how to guide very helpful, shuttle service flexible.

Honestly, just go here if you're in Takayama! It was expensive (the ryokan/Japanese suite), by far our most expensive stay in our Japan trip, but worth every penny. We're actually sad that our stay was only one night.
Where do i start:
- Absolutely fantastic staff, no words for the attention to detail and kindness.
- Amazing view on the river.
- Fantastic Ryokan experience, huge space, everything was super comfortable.
- Didn't manage to try the food, but based on reviews, I think that's also worth it.
- Perfect cleanliness, amenities, Onsen, etc.

The location is fantastic. Easy access yo all the sites in Takayama. Their focus seems to be non japanese guest based on the amount of western guests and the booklets in english in the rooms with elaborate explanations.
We found the food rather disappointing for a ryokan in this price segment. Portions were very restricted and not very japanese in taste. Almost every course was served by a different member of staff that often was not able to explain and felt like they were in a hurry.
