Our initial room smelled like cigarettes. Upon request we were immediately given a different (non-smoked in) room. It was lovely.
The walls were paper-thin; we were situated by the elevator so there was constant noise in the hallway all night.

Very convenient to Kyoto Station and all public transport including bus and taxi.
Bed too firm which seems to be the same across Japan. A mattress topper as an optional extra for beds would be nice. Also no laundry available at hotel but there is a very good coin laundry nearby

The location - near the airport.
The hotel charges for early checkin - which is mean as it was only a little over an hour early. They should note that they don't give a discount for an early departure which is what happens for most guests. Where's the flexibility?
The room was in an adjacent building to the breakfast room and the shuttle bus to the airport - which is not what I expected. It meant that I had to checkout and take my bags to breakfast with me - not the most convenient.
The air conditioning in the room needs an English translation. I reduced the temperature from the pre-set 24 degrees to 22 degrees. This shut down the air conditioner to the room, which should not have occurred.
