We had an absolutely phenomenal stay, and Niki and Chris made us feel super welcome as the first overnight guests of the season. We were roomed in in Kakariki - Native bush and glow worms off the back porch, sensational view from our balcony, views, views and more views all around the property. Coffee and meals and service were all top notch at the cafe. Had a massage as well which was 10/10. Felt very relaxed by the end of our stay and we'll be back again for sure. If you're unsure about whether booking is worth it - i can promise you it is.

The view during the boat ride was great. The staffs (boat, the restaurant - the man from the UK on working holiday, and the person at Picton end) were friendly.
The place gave me the vibes of being a for-profit enterprise. Everything seemed to be for sale and for use to generate revenue from 1. the picture which hung on the wall with a price sign of $1,000, 2. the animals (pigs, birds, eels etc) all kept in cages that appeared to only be there to satisfy guests, 3. The location of our room which was facing storage area at the back with no curtain on the door (which meant you could see inside the room from the outside), 4. Proactively selling the reservation to dine at the restaurant giving the reason that it’s normally full so reserving in advance will guarantee a table (turns out the restaurant was pretty vacant). The animals seemed pretty aggressive, which i suspect they would become that way living in such environment.
