Having travelled around Sri Lanka for a month and stayed in 12 different lodgings I think I can safely say that Turtle Eco Beach was the best. OK, not the cheapest, but I have definitely paid the same price for a lot less recently. The things I like about it:
The room - it’s spacious and (most notably) clean! It’s not a whinge, just an observation, but Sri Lankan hotels and guest houses generally have a different concept of what clean means than European’s. Not so at Turtle Eco Beach. I think this is because the hotel is owned by a French man and he maintains the place properly, to a high standard.
The garden/pool area - lovely! An oasis! Beautifully maintained and, again, clean. I swam often, and I don’t normally bother much.
The staff - friendly and efficient. You can’t ask for much more than that.
I wished I could have stayed longer.
There was nothing that I did not like.

Wonderful location opposite a beautiful beach with turtles and calm waters for swimming.
Lovely 25 m pool in a nice tropical garden.
The owner and the staff are so lovely and helpful.
Simple, good breakfast - served quickly.
No bar or evening restaurant if that's what you're looking for but loads of options less than a 5 min walk.
Would recommend.
Presumably because of the tropical garden we had some problems with mosquitos & with young kids that was tricky. The owner gave us spray and coils, so just be prepared to use a lot of spray.
It would be nice to have some chairs/place to relax in the room in the evenings as there's no communal area.

Madiha has become quite buzzy with lots of restaurants and nightlife. We swam with turtles!
Sadly It didn't live up to the photos. Needs updating and a good clean. Nowhere dry to put clothes. Lots of mosquitoes and noise from disco down the road (The manager said he had complained about the noise from the nearby bar). Breakfast bar was not open in the evenings.
