Beautifully decorated, very comfortable and spacious, lots of extra touches like pillow spray and ear plugs
Well we had to cross a busy road with our luggage as our room was in the opposite house- but it wasn’t that bad

An historic gem, the George is bursting with 600 years of lived-in character. There’s nowhere quite like it and owners Butcombe deliver excellent food and modern luxury against this ancient backdrop. Kim in the restaurant gave the most perfect service and the cooked breakfast was fantastic, as was the gentleman receiving us.
A few small things could elevate this place. The check-in could have been friendlier (a smile goes a long way!) and less focused on asking for payment immediately before any introductions or hellos. We booked 2 rooms for around the same price. Monmouth was grand and historic but the other (farleigh) was crampt at half the size, which felt inconsistent. Other than this, it’s a cracking place to stay.

It was really interesting to stay in such an old building, it really felt like a movie set.
Our bathroom was a bit tight… but we made the best of it, what with the venue age and all. People were definitely shorter/skinnier then!

Location, History, great views
Booked a suite, no air conditioning, no fridge. The suite is upstairs and it’s even hotter. Fans don’t cut it as they are too loud. Would not stay in summer. Lovely bed and bathroom. Staff were helpful. Couldn’t enjoy food outside as the wasps were too much. We should have got a table further away. Good food, good breakfast options.
