A great stay in every sense

Colleen, the owner, was there when we arrived and welcomed us with a complimentary lemonade - and a bottle of prosecco in celebration of my birthday! I felt special for our entire stay. Vanessa, the manager, was also kind and conversational. The room was spacious and elegant, the bed comfortable (with mohair blankets for extra warmth in unseasonally cold weather), and there were many added extras. We loved the company of the beautiful Bassett Hound father and son. Breakfast was amazing. The staff were friendly and helpful.
There was nothing we didn't like. The property, the people we met, and the town were all delightful. Colleen arranged for us to eat at Jeremy's across the road on our first night, and the meal was delicious; the atmosphere was wonderful.

Liked the property as it was central to the museum and shops.
On arrival Ronaldo checked us in and showed us to our rooms. There was no explaining of the rooms and what the amenities were and information on the town. We had a long tiring journey from the eastern cape and was not offered any refreshments despite reading the reviews of some guest offered scones and tea on arrival All he wanted to know was if we wanted breakfast. He had to know if we wanted cooked and also the time! Our rooms were by a communal patio where people were chatting and staff woke us up by cleaning and talking just after 7am! At breakfast the staff did not show us a menu. Just put apple juice on the table then fruit bowls. Then cooked breakfast with no choice of how we wanted our eggs done. At check at 8am was told Ronaldo was having a shower and it was up to the kitchen staff to pay for the breakfast. We were charged for 3 fruit bowls separately and for 3 cooked breakfast separately all very odd We were not shown a menu or price. Quite frankly the high price we paid for accommodation should have included the breakfast. The place lacked a personal touch. It’s not a place where we would stop again. The best thing was the the lovely Prince Albert cafe in the town which was delightful.
