The venue was beautiful. The entrance hall and staircase were very grand yet it was welcoming and cosy at the same time. The apartment was fabulous, full of old-world charm and comfort yet the kitchen and bathroom were very modern and had everything you wanted. The hosts left very generous provisions on arrival and were so helpful and friendly. We enjoyed our chats with them. The location was perfect. Quiet and peaceful but only a few minutes away from the centre of Lincoln. I would not hesitate to recommend The Dower House to anyone!

The historic city of Lincoln is full of heritage and culture - home to the Lincoln Cathedral, Lincoln Castle, Roman ruins, and medieval architecture. Perfect for a week/end wandering around the charming cobbled streets strewn with medieval architecture. Discover cultural events taking place at the Cathedral, Engine Shed, The Lawn, The Drill Hall, Theatre Royal also open-air functions at the Lincoln Castle and with this August Bank Holiday, Lincoln hosts The Steam Punk Pageant. Lindum Colonia a Roman Settlement Founded as a Legionary Fortress 58-68AD, William the Conqueror recognised the strategic importance of this hilltop fortress thus siting the Castle with the remaining stone walls.
The Idyllic residence for a long weekend stay is at The Dower House located in the picturesque quiet village of Canwick a 15-minute walk from the city centre. The Dower House (so named as a widow’s home historically called a dowager – who had a legal right to title, status or property received from deceased husband. The Seven Apartments housed within this Victorian country residence was built in 1876 and designed by the renowned Scottish Architect William Burn for the Sibthorp family local landowners. This Grand Gothic red-brick building incorporates a striking entrance hall and baronial staircase. Neil is the charming, gallant host welcoming us into his stunning period home – ‘the chocolate box of delights’ and also to our chosen Apartment One with French windows opening out onto the terraced garden. Such a privilege and pleasure to stay for 3 nights over the Bank Holiday Weekend where this period property meets contemporary design in pastel sludge colours. Simply Splendid!.
What was not to like?- we could have stayed for the week!!
