The Tree Motel

The room size was good and the the facilities clean and functional.

Requires a phone to use the motel We drove into the motel at 3pm (reception open until 9pm) and it was unattended. We then called the number on the locked reception door and there was no answer. With no other cars in the parking bays, there was a real eerie sense we might have made the wrong booking. After finding the confirmation email on our phone, there was a broken link to an app we needed to download to move forward. This of course assumes I have a smart device ready to go and fully charged with plenty of data. Call me old fashioned, but I don't really want to put random apps on my phone for a motel I'm spending a few nights in if there's a reception. After waiting around for about 20 minutes and multiple multiple calls to number sticky taped to taped to reception - finally we got a callback. They tele-checked us in - and gave us a doorcode/room number over the phone - to my partner, whose name and number were not on the booking. This was a little worrying, because he could have been anyone calling. It all worked out, but I'm really glad I didn't let my phone battery die on the road-trip because there would have been no-one to call, and nothing we could have done but go to a different motel. Also, on our second day the door code stopped working and we needed to call reception. Thankfully they called us back straight away, and were able to reset the door remotely - but - if we had been without phones there was just no way to get into the room and no-one to talk to and no way to get assistance. In chatting with the older couple who arrived after us, these kind of experiences are pretty common. There was no human interaction, no reception and no way to ask for help if you needed it. I would not book this place for the elderly, the tech illiterate or people who forget their chargers. Everyone else, make sure you keep your phone dry and this place will be very agreeable, if a little far off the main drag of town.

Location. Close to shops. Ease of entry and parking outside door. Surprisingly spacious with separate room for single bed and bunks. Ideal for family

Could not get the aircon/heating to work for the second night. Was a bit cooler inside than the first night

Easy parking, easy access, overall cleanliness and flat screen TV

Liquid soap dispenser in shower recess was empty, and so we relied upon the supplied cakes of soap. Bed mattress probably needs updating or a topper added.
