A very comfortable, relaxing and enjoyable stay.

Foxghyll Country House is perfectly located between Ambleside and Rydal, in an idyllic and peaceful setting, making it ideal for walkers or those seeking a retreat. In addition to the warm welcome and attention to detail provided by Paul and Rachel, who served up a very hearty and delicious breakfast, there are also beauty treatments on offer including massages - the perfect tonic at the end of a long but beautiful circle walk over Loughrigg fell to Grasmere.

The fantastic 4, location, hosts, breakfast and rooms. A special place to stay, it was our first stay at Foxghyll and is now the only place we will stay when we visit Ambleside.

Beautiful setting

Loved the breakfast. Beautiful garden and very quiet. Staff couldn't be more helpful. The bed very comfortable and there were plenty of pillows.

Gorgeous B&B in lovely surroundings a mile from Ambleside

Gorgeous B&B, lovely hosts, stunning grounds, walkable from Ambleside, big comfortable rooms, shutters for a good night’s sleep. Also loved that we could walk straight out of the place when we arrived, buy ice cream from the host and immediately climb up the beautiful Loughrigg fell. Thoroughly deserves its high rating.

The only thing that wasn’t perfect was the water pressure in the morning, which fell to pretty much zero presumably because too many other guests were showering. For some, the one mile walk to Ambleside might be more than they’d like but we enjoyed it - it was a nice, scenic walk, and flat & paved so we could wear our evening shoes. The hosts even provided pocket torches for coming back after dark.

It was such a great experience that we can’t wait to come back!

The house is beautiful and luxurious. It has been carefully renovated to meet guests’ needs without covering over the charm of a house with history. Rachel and Paul were warm, welcoming and so helpful for our first visit to Ambleside.

Incredibly warm welcome from the owners on arrival, the food was fantastic and nestled in a lovely quiet place with Ambleside town a short (around 15 minute) walk away. Owners couldn't do enough to help us and the place was amazing.

Lovely friendly B&B, beautiful setting just outside bustling Ambleside with numerous walks close by

Excellent quiet location with lovely garden, wonderful views, walks on door step and within walking distance of Ambleside for evening refreshments. Good breakfast. Park up the car and enjoy. Paul and Rachel were super hosts. Thoroughly enjoyed our break and will definitely be back.

perfect place to stay for a walking holiday in the Lakes

my room had a gorgeous view of the garden, the bed was super comfy, room temperature was perfect, really good size room. extra special mention of the window seat! Breakfast was well cooked, a lot of choice, and I just love having someone else cut up fruit for my breakfast 😚. the location was perfect. 15 minute walk into Ambleside or 10min to Rydal, meant we were far enough away to feel isolated and in the country, without actually being isolated at all. bonus ice cream shop at the bottom of the garden on a sunny day 😎 the hosts were the cherry on top

Ideally situated, excellent B&B

The hosts Paul & Rachel were very friendly and helpful. Foxghyll is ideally situated for walks from the property and has easy access to Ambleside where there are several good restaurants. Our room was spacious overlooking the river/mountains. Excellent breakfast.

Beautiful location and very spacious, comfortable room with stunning view to the hills. Path up Loughrigg direct from the property. Friendly and helpful hosts - provided early breakfast for an early start. Fabulous food: freshly cooked with great choice. Highly recommended.

Warm hospitality in a tranquil surrounding

Warm hospitality by the owners, Paul and Rachel. Thoughtful sumptuous breakfast. Spacious room with a great river and pasture view. Comfortable bed. Lots of trees and flowering plants in its 5-acre property. Our 3-night stay was very heavenly and relaxing. Pleasureable walking experience from village to village. Highly recommended for a 3~ 5 day Lake District experience.

Foxghyll Country House is in a beautiful location just on the edge of Ambleside it’s so peaceful and the period property is exceptionally well maintained. Our room was ver spacious, well furnished and very comfortable. There was an EV charger too for our electric car. Superb!

wonderful reenergising stay

stunning historic property, beautifully looked after in beautiful location. Paul and Rachel are genuinely lovely kind people who went out of there way too make us welcome - delicious cooked breakfast, lovely gardens, a classic walk that starts at the end of the garden… Ambleside a short stroll away thru pretty countryside. I could go on!!

Excellent stay with lots of personal touches

We had a wonderful stay at Foxghyll, the room was very comfortable and clean. The location was perfect - a short walk to Ambleside. We took our bikes and the hosts kindly let us store them. Very good breakfast with plenty of choice and especially liked that the Easter bunny visited!

Great location, easy 15/20 minute walk into Ambleside and other walks on the doorstep. lovely breakfast, lots of choice and loved being able to book the time and food the night before. Very comfortable four poster room with everything we needed. would definitely recommend.

The perfect escape in beautiful Lake District county side

Beautiful in the perfect location. Great place to set off on walks or just relax in the gardens. A really beautiful spot, close enough to the popular towns for meals etc but far enough away to feel like your a million miles away from it all. Will be back!

Best guest house I’ve ever been to

Lovely setting, slightly off the beaten track but is only a short walk away from Ambleside. Very friendly and helpful hosts, the room is really nice big and tidy and the whole house is beautiful. The breakfast is great and have a lot of choices. Definitely would stay again!

Really nice place to stay. We will certainly be using Foxghyll again

Breakfast superb. Owners very friendly and helpful. Rooms good size and very comfortable. Great location with short walk into town. Grounds spacious and well kept. Maps, torches etc available if required.

There was nothing to dislike. The only thing which would have improved this holiday would have been to stay longer!

When weighing places up, choose this one!!

Stunning house in an ideal location. From the second we pulled up we were in awe. The hosts could not have done more. Would highly recommend this place to others and would stay here again in the future. Perfect distance to walk in to Ambleside, beautiful river and walks from your door. Lovely gardens on site. Great quality breakfast with lots of options. Local maps and torches available to borrow by the door, its these extra little touches that are appreciated and these guys have thought through every second of your stay. Thank you Paul and Rachel.
