The property is in a fantastic location, making it very convenient for exploring the area. The room was also a great size, offering plenty of space.
Unfortunately, I was extremely disappointed with my stay, as there were several issues that significantly affected my experience.
The shower area was particularly unacceptable. It was essentially like being inside a small box, making it extremely uncomfortable and causing me to feel very claustrophobic. This had a significant negative impact on my stay. Fortunately, I was able to use my friend’s room to shower during my stay, which was a huge relief. However, I should not have had to rely on another guest’s room simply to have a comfortable shower.
I was also disappointed that no tea or coffee was provided in the studio, which is a basic amenity I would expect at this type of property. The Wi-Fi was also not working properly, making it difficult to use the internet when needed.
The pool was another major disappointment. The water was extremely dirty and had a very green appearance, to the point that it was impossible to use. This was particularly disappointing as access to the pool was presumably part of the facilities advertised with the property.
Finally, I feel the website photos were misleading. They did not accurately represent the studio, particularly the bathroom and shower area. Had I seen the space as it actually is, I would have seriously reconsidered making the booking.
Overall, these issues had a considerable negative impact on my stay, and unfortunately, I would not consider returning unless significant improvements are made.

A cracking little hotel in a perfect spot. Smartr Porto Reis de Gaia & Spa sits slap bang in the heart of Gaia, surrounded by the famous Port lodges, with Porto just a pleasant stroll across the nearby bridge.
Our room was vast, beautifully designed and even came with a well-equipped galley kitchen – a real bonus. Comfortable, quirky and full of character throughout.
The breakfast buffet has everything you need to set you up for the day. The rooftop offers exceptional views across both Gaia and Porto, and the small rooftop pool is the perfect place to cool off while soaking up the scenery.
Loved every minute. The Bothyman will return.
We arrived to find the pool out of order.
Apology from hotel explained and it was up and running soon after.

Location (weekdays only). Kitchinette facilities
The shower did not work properly. The first time it went wrong I assumed water was coming out of gap between doors. The seal was replaced but doors still did not close. Then realised water was flooding out beneath the shower tray and electrics related to it were not working. Management said they would have moved us but there were no vacant rooms. This was a longstanding problem the flooring was damaged clearly from previous incidents. We had to constantly mop up and therefore had sodden wet towels in our bathroom. I was unhappy that I was paying full rate for a room that was substandard. Management have not responed to my message. The World of Wine venue a few blocks away was a problem at weekends with an Ibiza like open air disco - although some might see this as positive.
