One of the most interesting things about Villa Finnley is the concept. The property is essentially one large villa that has been divided into four separate rooms/accommodation units, with one shared swimming pool. Despite this setup, there is enough privacy for the different guests, and during our stay we did not feel that the shared facilities caused any major inconvenience.
It is also clearly a family-run business. The owner, a friendly lady, manages the bookings and payments and also takes care of and coordinates some of the cleaning and other practical matters. Her father takes care of the parking area, maintains the swimming pool and helps with practical issues when something needs attention or does not work properly. This gives the property a personal and family-oriented atmosphere.
The property was previously known as Villa Malo 2, so guests who may recognize that name should know that it is now operating as Villa Finnley.
The overall setup is pleasant, and having a swimming pool and parking available is certainly a plus. The fact that it is a smaller, family-run property can also be appealing if you prefer a more personal experience rather than a large hotel.
There are, however, several things that could be improved.
First, laundry is available for €5 per wash. This is a useful service, especially for guests staying for a longer period. Unfortunately, we had a problem with this. After having several loads of laundry washed, we noticed that multiple items of clothing had shrunk significantly. We contacted the villa afterwards to ask how the clothes had been washed and at what temperature, but unfortunately we did not receive a response. This was disappointing, particularly because the issue involved several items of clothing.
The bathroom is another area that could be improved. The shower is quite small and the layout is rather inconvenient. When taking a shower, approximately two-thirds of the bathroom floor becomes wet because of the way the shower area is designed. The drainage is also positioned directly next to where you place your feet when sitting on the toilet, which is not particularly comfortable or practical.
Finally, it is important to understand the layout before booking. This is not a traditional hotel with four completely separate rooms within a larger hotel building. It is one large villa that has been divided into four separate accommodation spaces, with the swimming pool being shared. This worked reasonably well for us and there was sufficient privacy, but guests who are expecting a fully independent hotel room with a more traditional layout should be aware of this beforehand.
Overall, Villa Finnley has a nice family-run character, a good setup and sufficient privacy despite being one villa divided into four units. With some improvements to the bathroom design and more attention to the laundry service and communication regarding problems, the experience could be considerably better.
