We stayed as a family in the traditional quadruple room with futon beds, and our experience at Gion Koh was exceptional. The ambience throughout the property is wonderfully calming, a perfect blend of traditional Kyoto charm and peaceful comfort.
The room itself was beautifully presented, quiet, and surprisingly spacious for a traditional layout. Sleeping on futons added to the authentic feel, and the overall atmosphere made it easy to unwind after busy days exploring.
The location couldn’t be better. Being right in Gion meant we could step outside and immediately enjoy the historic streets, tea houses, and local culture, yet the hotel remained serene and tucked away from the crowds.
A truly special place that made our Kyoto stay unforgettable. Highly recommended for families wanting a traditional experience in a perfect setting.

Very central location with a very helpful host. He was there at the door to greet us as we came and gave us the whole rundown on check-in/out policy. I also liked the pond that was built within the riokan and our room could see it.
