Absolutely superb location right in the city centre. Excellent value for money for such a prime spot
On the day of arrival, the electronic locks had an issue, and we couldn't get in for a long time even though the code was correct. Support kindly tried to help by updating the code, but it turned out to be a network problem. This system is generally great when there's no reception desk, but it needs more careful administration. We were genuinely worried we wouldn't be able to get in late in the evening, and other tourists were also standing outside waiting.

CHECK-IN:
The story started bad: After a last minute reservation for a 4-person-room in private single use with shared bathroom for 87 PLN I didn’t receive necessary entrance door code by mail to enter the building. Expensive international call was compulsory to get the 6-digit-PIN code. No staff was there at reception this evening at 19:30 – but cameras everywhere along the floors in the hostel.
As soon reservation is payed, they send you a mail with long text of regulations, e. g. „Hostel Krasnal reserves the right to change the room to one of a similar standard or relocate the guests to another location (AbsyntHostel) (...)“
My room No. 312 at the southern end of the hallway was only reachable by more than 80 steps of stairs up – there is no elevator in this historical house.
Rooms with a x02 are the bigger corner rooms.
You have to type in the PIN code 3x: First at staircase access, second to enter hostel floor and third for each sleeping room. This Hostel doesn’t use physical keys. Also in the private rooms you hear the loud metallic noise of typing in the PIN codes of other guests all night even through closed doors. Sound isolation isn’t the best – so be prepared.
The guest room had no inviting flair at all. Just bunk beds, two plastic chairs and ugly office neon lights at the roof of the room. Upper bunk bed sleeper have no chance to reach a power socket with their phone. There are no curtains around the bed, so no privacy at all. There are no hangers or closets. Window view to the western direction over the roofs of Magdalena church was the only nice aspect– in winter peaceful – in summer time you might expect racing taxi drivers and party people during night. No air condition – so sleeping with noisy open windows in summer might be a must.
The room had no small reading lights at the beds – only the very aggressive roof light like in a prison. The room had not a single mirror at all. You have to walk across the hallway to the shared bathrooms.
The bathrooms don’t have a hairdryer. The hostel doesn’t offer towels any more – not even for rent out for an extra fee. Probably they force you to take the pillowcase and use them for getting dry after a shower – really ridiculous – just to save some little money on the back of the guests?
LOCATION:
300 metres east of central Rynek Market Square and 15 minutes walk away from main train station. The nearest tramway stops are „Wita Stwosza (only northbound) and „Galeria Dominikánska“ (shopping mall on big crossroads). A Biedronka supermarket is 100 metres away.
Most of the rooms have a view into northern (old town cobbled road) and western direction (to Magdaleny church square: rooms x02- x12)
THE CHEAT:
Sorry to say – but its true: The Krasnal Hostel is operating with fraud online pictures of rooms.
When you pay your reservation, they show pics with plants in the room, framed pictures on the wall, a desk and towels on each bed including three pillows per guest. Additionally they show you decoration ceramics.
HONESTLY: All fake!
The reality -> NOTHING of these items was existing in room No. 312. They fool the guests.
When you book, they are promising you a 21sqm room. My room No. 312 had only 2,75x4,50m = 12,4 sqm. So the room was 59 % smaller than in the online description. This style of cheating is not acceptable!
Instead of cozy hotel room style, they are operating with really cheap bed linens. But you get what you pay for.
Room had 3,10 m high ceelings – so it took some time to get it heated.
The matresses have a height of 18 cm (90x200cm) and are quite soft, but okay. The metall stairs to the upper bed are really not safely in usage, all the construction is shaking strongly. You should better not weight more than 70 kg.
You have to leave the room already at 10:00 = check-out time (after that the PIN code gets invalid – so no chance to re-enter your room after 10 am)

This hostel doesn’t meet basic standards of inviting hospitality.
