About this house rental

Nestled in Berkeley, this lovely house for $164 per night is a great option for your next break. Two bedroom, cozy, comfortable craftsman -A vegetarian/vegan home for years (please do not bring meat into the house for either cooking or storage. Eat whatever you like when out and about!). Eggs, dairy and bee products are fine, although you may enjoy trying coconut cream, nut or goat milks and cheeses as they are reputed to be generally better for digestibility.. - Staying in Berkeley is arguably nicer that staying in San Francisco when visiting the SF Bay Area. In the East Bay, the temperature is warmer by about ten degrees F than nearby San Francisco. "The coldest winter I ever spent was Summer in San Francisco." Mark Twain. The inversion layer causes fog which can be chilly, (especially in the summer). Berkeley is warmer, however many summer mornings have a fog that normally burns off by noon. -Close to fabulous Fourth Street shops and restaurants, Bette's Diner, Peet's and the Apple Store in Berkeley's Oceanview neighborhood. One of the older neighborhoods of Berkeley, full of charming homes and long time residents. -Easy access to buses (UC Berkeley and SF downtown), easy freeway access and a 99% walk-ability rating. A 10-15 minute walk (.9 mile) to North Berkeley BART (and SF morning carpool) -We accept most pets -Private Entry with mud porch and rear exit door to the yard - Visiting Professor families are welcome, as are students for semester stays. Damage and cleaning deposits may vary on longer term stays. No stays over two weeks in summer months, thanks! Write to me and explain your situation and let’s see if this is a fit. -Large living-room with a working fireplace, couch, and a couch that converts into a single bed. -There is a playable upright piano -Two bedrooms, furnished with double beds, desks etc. The bedrooms have plenty of light. -Tiled bathroom- with separate shower and bathtub -Large eat-in kitchen with gas stove, refrigerator, spacious sink, plenty of cabinets, booth benches, oak table, dishwasher, granite counter tops. Vegetarian cook books, toaster and includes pots pans, mixing bowls, juicer on request, crock pot, dishes etc. -A front loading washing machine on site. There are a few folding racks to hang laundry to dry as well as a very small drier that fits less than half of a full load from the washer. Large appliances are to be used between 7PM and noon, to work with the solar array and utilities pricing systems. -Street parking, no permits are required in this neighborhood. There is street cleaning - two days in the month, the first Monday and Tuesday each month. - Owner lives on the property, in a private addition. -Shared small sunny yard (garden- a work in progress)- do not consider the yard, as it is under development. -No smoking in the home or on the property -I just raised the pet fee as I had an allergic guest and had to pay $250 for deep cleaning to remove cat dander.

I absolutely loved staying in this home that has every single amenity plus more. I stayed with my college-aged twin daughters and young son and we were all perfectly comfortable. Lisa knew it was my birthday weekend and I was met with flowers and gifts on the dining table. The location is perfect, we loved walking around the neighborhood and going to coffee and shopping just a few blocks away. Getting to SF is a breeze. So much better than staying in a sterile hotel. We can't wait to stay again.

Walking distance to shops on Fourth Street. San Pablo Ave, University Ave . . . coffee, restaurants, shops, REI, etc. The house was warm and cozy with a great kitchen to cook in and Lisa was the best property owner ever. She did so much to make us welcome and comfortable!! And it was quiet at night. No traffic noise!!

Overall very nice host who truly made the effort to make me feel comfortable and welcome. Unfortunately I felt like I was sleeping in her bed in her house and it was a bit awkward.

Our host Lisa was very welcoming, even offering to give us rides to the BART station upon our arrival and departure! Home was charming older bungalow with colorful decor and artwork, just as photos depict. Host was also helpful in offering restaurant recommendations in the neighborhood. Don’t miss the Oceanview Diner and bakery/deli next door! Neighborhood was quiet at night except for a bit of a party nearby on Saturday. But, we rested well. Master bedroom bed was very comfy. Overall, a great stay and good location for visiting Berkeley and San Francisco. FYI, It’s about 1:15 to 1:30 by BART and muni bus to get to Golden Gate Park. Cheers!

Lisa is a kind and accommodating host! We arrived to fresh picked flowers and fruit. Her charming house has a definite Berkeley vibe, from the Buddha by the front door to the Dr Bronners in the bathroom, and I love it. We used to live in Berkeley and brought our kids back for the first visit in 5 years, and staying at Lisa’s felt like we were living in Berkeley again. Our kids are 7 and 9 and the place was perfect for the 4 of us. We enjoyed walking to Peet’s on 4th street for a morning pastry and coffee, and playing in the neighborhood park just 1.5 blocks away. Having parking and laundry on site was great. I’d definitely recommend Lisa’s place, if you don’t mind keeping a vegetarian kitchen while you’re there—we ate out all the time (too many great restaurants in the Bay Area to cook!) so it wasn’t a problem at all for us omnivores.

The house is a warm mix of color and texture. Great old bungalow style mixed with unique furniture pieces and fabrics. We really enjoyed the location -- 4th and U was right around the corner, and getting up to the university dorms to get our son situated was easy. Lisa, the homeowner, made sure we were comfortable. She really knows the neighborhood and shared great suggestions about the area, restaurants, places to go.
