Schatzalp Hotel

Petit déjeuner complet avec des produits de région, fromages et charcuterie, très complet aussi pour les vegan. Le petit plus le prix de la chambre inclus l'accès au jardin botanique ou se trouvent des edelweiss, ainsi qu'un tour en piste de luge et accès aux chemin de randonnée partant de l'hôtel . La présence de chats est très charmante, le café avec la vue et ses décorations art nouveau invitent a passer la fin d'après midi a voir un thé . La visite de l'hôtel en soi est extraordinaire avec la bibliothèque et livres d'époque, le bureau du médecin, l'ancienne centrale de téléphone et les ascenseurs d'époque . La vue sur l'esplanade est une des plus belles vues de montagne que j'ai jamais vu !

le tarif du parking pour garer la voiture n'était pas inclus dans le prix de la chambre.

Die Schatzalp ist der Zauberberg, auf den wir uns in der heutigen Zeit flüchten können. Weg von der Getriebenheit, dem Funktionierenmüssen, dem ständigen Verfügbarsein, dem Streben nach Perfektion, das uns der Zeitgeist aufzwingt. Stattdessen Ruhe, Gediegenheit, Zimmer und Gesellschaftsräume ohne Bildschirme, Displays und Hintergrundgedudel. Zimmer mit schlichter und dennoch komfortabler Ausstattung, die nichts vermissen läßt. Liebevolle Details wie die Nachttischlampen mit den Zugkettchen zum Ein- und Ausschalten, das klassische Analogradio, die Liegen samt Decken auf dem Balkon, die geradezu zur Liegekur wie im Roman beschrieben einladen. Der original erhaltene und stets liebevoll hergerichtete Jugendstil-Speisesaal. Die langen Flure mit den klassischen Uhren, die noch immer einen Hauch von Sanatorium ausstrahlen. Das Knirschen des Kies beim Flanieren vor der Hauptfront des Hotels und die penibel gepflegte Umgebung, insbesondere die Alpin-Gärten. Und natürlich das stets freundlich-zurückhaltende, hilfsbereite und maßgeblich die entspannte Atmosphäre prägende Personal im gesamten Haus. Und die Kosten? Natürlich nicht billig, aber das, was man auf der Schatzalp erhält und erfährt, ist wertvoller als die Franken, die man dafür bezahlt.

Alles war sehr gut.

Aucun document en français, bien dommage. Heureusement qu'une charmante dame, à la réception parlait le français, de même que le magnifique chef de rang lors des repas

There's magic in this hotel. One feels transported 100 or at least 80-70 years back in time, it is an art-nouveau gem, a capsule in time, with fantastic ambiance and beautiful interiors. The staff are extremely helpful and polite, giving a service much more appropriate for a 5 star establishment, and not a 3 star one - the status the hotel has now. Just looking out of the gigantic windows in the bar/foyer onto the fading light upon the mountains, while listening to Chopin being played on the piano and fire crackling in the fire place, sunbathing on the balcony, wandering the halls of the hotel and experiencing the "Magic Mountain" vibes is worth every penny! The breakfast was also amazing with plenty to choose from. And coming on and off the mountain via the hotel's funicular was something straight out of Wes Anderson's Grand Budapest hotel, which I feel the Schatzalp heavily inspired, just like it did Thomas Mann 100 years ago.

So just be aware that this hotel requires a lot of imagination as it is in fact crumbling. There are no modern amenities of any king - even the radios in the rooms are at least 50 years old. It is all quite charming in fact, but for example all the rooms (even if clean) smell of the 100 000 of guests that passed through them through the ages (they are carpeted so small wonder). The family that owns the hotel stopped investing in it probably in the 70s (this was when our room was updated) and it really shows. Also - be aware that all rooms are different and that what you book on booking.com might differ from what you get (I booked something that looked like a charming room full of antiques and got a 70's room instead - it was fine, as the view from the balcony was great, but keep it in mind). Also - this is not a criticism, but if there isn't enough snow the private ski lifts are unusable (they do not have the ability to put artificial snow on the hotel's slopes) and also the sledge run gets closed for safety reasons. Make sure you take all this into consideration when booking. Also if this hotel were to be renovated the prices would make it unaffordable for mere mortals.
