Hosteria Farallon Dillon

Hosteria Farallon Dillon sits in a fantastic location, nestled between Salinas and Punta Blanca right on a cliff overlooking the ocean. Step down to the beach are easily navigated, and the beach is quiet and serene, with opportunities to view all sorts of wildlife. I've seen whales there on my previous trip, and on this one enjoyed watching several sea turtles in the surf not far off shore. There are some beautiful tide pools as well. Our room was above the restaurant and featured air conditioning, a hammock on the balcony, a comfortable bed, and amazing views! The hosteria also features a wonderful little museum that is worth some of your time.

We were there to hear a band from Guayaquil, and I think the crowd was a lot bigger than expected. Unfortunately, this resulted in inconsistent table service (it took over 90 minutes to get our meal, and that was after the rest of our table had been served and with several reminders to our waiter). The Ocean Delight (we had the grilled calamari) was chewy and not really filling - a disappointment given it's relatively high price.

This is a really special place. The views are breathtaking, the building itself has tons of history and the beach is great. The breakfast was balon, a local dish, and it was delicious.

The only negatives are the same things that make it great. The hotel is on a bluff above the ocean, so it's a long climb up and down to the beach. We stayed in the Pagoda room, which is in a little building most of the way down toward the beach. It's beautiful, but it does not have A/C, which I didn't notice when I booked. It was worth it to me, but we didn't sleep as well as we could have. Many of the rooms in the hotel do have A/C so just pay attention when you book.

room had a chemical they used to shine the wood. No TV in room and no phone to call front desk in case of an emergency.
