Comfortable and well located

The room was just fine and our host (Jo) was lovely.

The only slight downside was being able to hear another quest in the next room moving around and talking. Unavoidable really but slightly off putting

Cosy guesthouse in the heart of town

Lovely, characterful property right in the heart of Alnwick. A nice room with a comfortable bed. Jo was great and info was readily available of things to do or so.

The size of the shower was a bit tight but considering it is an old property it was great to have one. Couple of creaky floorboards were pretty much the only other very minor issues.

Great value for money, a very pleasant stay.

The owner, Jo, was very friendly, helpful and welcoming. We would definitely stay again. The room was clean, comfortable and warm. The accommodation was tastefully decorated and furnished throughout. We appreciated the daily bed making and room freshening. Parking in front of the house was always available and the location was ideal for local amenities.

Possibly the parking was a little bit tight for a larger car, but there was usually additional free parking available on the road too. We really have no complaints at all and would definitely return in future.

Perfect stay for a short holiday

I absolutely enjoyed my stay at the castle gate. The owner is super friendly and helpful. The rooms are clean and cozy. Beds are very comfortable - I slept really well. The location couldn’t be better either. 3mins walk to Barter‘s Books and 5mins walk to the castle. 10/10 recommendation! :)

3 days and lovely area Alnwick 👍😀

bedroom room is lovely staff is friendly welcome lovely tea/ coffee mint chocolate , cleaning is good and good car park .

Too small shower room. my sister law is usher - Rug not safe she nearly fall not see Rug .

Great location and very pretty room. Had a room to the back so it was nice and quiet during the night.

There was mold in the bathroom and you can here every word that is spoken in the other rooms. Also there is a bright exit sign in the room. That is on even during the night. It is very very bright.

Perfect location and value for money

The location was superb and the staff were very helpful. The room was clean and comfortable, there was parking outside the guest house and the trip was definitely value for money. I would recommend the accommodation and would book here again next time I visit Northumberland.

Superb

A pleasant, good value guest house, centrally located in Alnwick, close to all amenities. Jo was a good host, welcoming, and advised on nearby places for meals, especially for breakfasts, as none provided by Castle Gate guest house, but I was aware of that, prior to my stay. Would stay there again.

Very enjoyable and satisfying.

The central location was a short walk from the the Castle which was our destination and the room was very comfortable and spacious. Although it is in the centre of Alnwick there was not much noise and although they did not provide breakfast their was an appropriate cafe within a short walk.

It was ideal for us - visited friends and found Barter Books evening opening on New Years Day!

Central location, clean and comfortable.

Had trouble with the pavement kerb to access the parking bay. Pity not to have sloping kerbstones.

Great location but terribly cold temperatures inside the bedrooms, poor heating system.

The location in town center, near the castle and garden grounds, along with various restaurants and shops is superb.

Upon arrival which was between 5-7pm on the evening of check-in we found both of our bedrooms to be very cold. I question when the heating was turned on because generally if a room takes a while to heat up then as a B&B staff member you should do their best to ensure the rooms are properly and comfortably heated for the guests upon their arrival. If we had arrived prior to the advertised arrival time then sure I might understand why the rooms weren’t heated but we arrived well after the arrival time. After we checked in we went off to dinner hoping the rooms would be warm by the time we arrived back to the B&B and we found that by 10pm at night the rooms were still cool. The temps outside were at freezing point as it was winter time. That night as we slept it was utterly cold inside the room. The following morning we awoke to extremely cold rooms. The staff member mentioned that morning that we could’ve asked for small space heaters to place in our rooms. I wish I would’ve been made aware that they even had additional heaters. This made me question the staff and wonder why they didn’t have space heaters placed in the rooms to begin with. I think the staff were trying to save money as they were well aware that the rooms have terrible heating conditions in them. Uncalled for. I’d suggest that space heaters are either placed in all bedrooms so guests have the option to use them as they need them. I also highly suggest that the owner of the B&B invest in properly insulating the B&B and installing a new heating system that circulates throughout the bedrooms efficiently and effectively. This is not right for guests to be in such cold temperatures inside.

Amazing value and very homely.

Easy check in and great communication with the attentive owners. The property is very welcoming. It felt like we’d just came home for the weekend. Comfortable rooms and great facilities. everything you could ever need was there for you to use (iron and ironing board, tea, coffee, biscuits, chocolate, hairdryer even cotton pads and buds! just to make a few) everything you could ever want was supplied. There was even a book that showed you local eateries with menus. target attention to detail was second to none!

Nobody there to greet us or let us into the property and we didn’t see any owner or caretaker all the time we were there, we had to ring a number for a code to get into the inner door of the property Toilet seat loose; tap on sink very loose and shelf under the mirror in the bedroom also loose

Worth a stay nevertheless

Excellent location adjacent to main street and shops etc. The bed was very comfortable The hostess Jo was most welcoming.

The toilet/shower room was very small. The stairs were quite steep.
