It’s the best hostel- if I can even call it a hostel- I’ve ever stayed in. It felt more like a beautiful, safe, spotless, and lovingly maintained home. I was only supposed to stay for one night, but I ended up extending my stay by three more nights.
If I had been able to stay longer in Antigua (I absolutely fell in love with the city too 🫶🏻), I would have extended my stay here without a second thought. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a welcoming and peaceful place to stay.
The only downside is that the price for a bed in the shared room doubles on weekends. Even so, I still think it’s absolutely worth it. Also, the hostel’s laundry service costs 60Q per bag, and the bag is quite small. However, if that’s a concern, there are plenty of affordable laundry services just a short walk from the hostel.

Barbara's Boutique Hostel is a nice place to stay, and I can see why it's popular with tourists. However, compared to other hostels in its class, I found it to be a bit overrated. Be prepared to pay extra for items that are often complimentary elsewhere, such as a key deposit and towels. If you come prepared for these additional costs, you'll have a comfortable stay. Please note that the value may not align with the high rating if you're comparing amenities. I was not a solo traveller - it was five of us, and this comment is not just mine, but what everybody in the group believes.
I felt the hostel was overrated for the price. Unlike most other places, I was charged extra for basic items like a key deposit and towels, which are usually included elsewhere. This made the stay feel less welcoming and not a good value. Additionally, when we asked to extend our stay a couple more nights, we were quoted $500 per night—this seemed completely unreasonable and inconsistent with the original rate.
