Sunny Bay Hotel

This was my second stay at Sunny Bay, and there is a reason I came back. What I probably appreciate most is the location. It is peaceful, with no noisy nightlife or parties around the hotel. On Saturday evening you could hear some Greek music in the distance, probably from another hotel or restaurant, but it wasn't loud and certainly didn't continue until the early hours. If you are looking for somewhere to actually relax, this is a great place. The rooms are spacious, most with a lovely view and a good-sized balcony. Sitting there in the evening when the air gets cooler is one of those simple holiday pleasures. The rooms have everything you really need, but the highlight for me was the bed – extremely comfortable. This is honestly one of the very few hotels where I sleep almost as well as I do at home. Cleanliness is exceptional. The housekeeping staff work very hard, even on Sundays, but thankfully they don't start trying to get into your room at seven in the morning! Beach towels are provided free of charge. The hotel is practically on the beach and has its own sunbeds and umbrellas. If you prefer the pool, you simply walk from the beach through the restaurant and you're there. The pool is large, clean and very well maintained. There are plenty of sunbeds too, so there is none of that ridiculous early-morning battle to reserve one. Sunday was a little busier, but there were still enough for everyone. The staff are one of the hotel's biggest strengths. Everyone is friendly and smiling, although things sometimes happen at a relaxed Cretan holiday pace, so occasionally you may wait a little – but never unreasonably long. The girls working in the bar and restaurant are genuinely lovely and happy to chat with guests in perfectly decent English. Ina in particular does an excellent job. Sunny Bay is run by a Cretan family, with three generations involved, and I think that makes a difference.

A couple of minor things are worth mentioning. The hotel is roughly an hour by taxi from Chania Airport, so factor that into your travel plans. Also, the housekeeping trolleys can be quite noisy rolling over the tiled floors in the morning. You can hear them from the rooms, although we're talking around 9 am rather than 7 am, so I can live with that.

A family-run hotel where the attention to guests’ needs can truly be felt in every detail. The rooms are brand new, recently renovated, and very pleasant, making the stay even more comfortable. The dining room, where breakfast and dinner are served, overlooks the garden and the beach, creating a truly beautiful and relaxing atmosphere. It is an ideal choice for anyone looking to spend a relaxing week with their family in a peaceful and welcoming environment. The parking is also very convenient and always available for guests. A special thank you to Ina, who was always incredibly kind, friendly, and helpful to us throughout our stay. Her warmth and genuine hospitality made our experience even more enjoyable. A truly wonderful stay that I would highly recommend without hesitation.

We only stayed here for one night as we had an early morning ferry trip to Kythera. The staff were so helpful and organised breakfast for us before we left( breakfast didn’t begin until 7.30 and we had to leave by 7.15). We had lunch and dinner there and the meals were very high standard. And the little beach made the whole atmosphere very pleasant. We highly recommend Sunny Bay Hotel if you are in Kissamos.

We only stayed one night

The pool was amazing, but the furniture in the room was very old, ripped and dirty. The bathroom was also pretty old and shabby. The entrance door was shaking all night because of the wind and we couldn't sleep because of the noise.
