We had a wonderful stay at this bed and breakfast within the old city! Perfect location. Our hosts Aldo, Rosa, and Gabriel were welcoming and available should we need anything. Aldo was kind and generous to pick us up at the bus station. The apartment is clean, and has everything you need. It’s spacious for 2-3 people and the beds were comfortable. Keep in mind the other bed is upstairs (narrow staircase). Not an issue for me but it would not have worked for my parent. We would definitely stay here again!

Our stay was a wonderful experience and a highlight of our trip! The warm hospitality of Aldo and Rosa and their grandson Gabriel was exceptional, and they made us feel like family!
The location in the Sassi district is perfect. Aldo advised us regarding parking ahead of our arrival, and he met us at the parking garage and transported our family of four - and all of our luggage - to the property with ease! It made our arrival so simple and pleasant. The room was very spacious and comfortable for our family. The terrace was lovely and the perfect place to take in the views of the Sassi, especially in the evening when the lights made for a magical atmosphere.
Breakfast was very generous and exceeded our expectations as well. Rosa and Aldo served a wide variety of fresh local cheeses and meats, homemade baked goods, fresh fruit, all finished with an excellent espresso or cappuccino as you wish. We particularly enjoyed the friendly conversations with our hosts, and we were treated like family throughout our stay.
Matera itself is beautiful, and our visit was all the more special because of our stay here - both for the wonderful location and, even more so, the kindness and warmth of our hosts, Aldo and Rosa.

We just got back from our trip to Italy to celebrate our anniversary. While we were there, we stayed in 5 different places, of which 4 were B&Bs. Just FYI, we spent weeks researching B&Bs in preparation for anniversary and birthday celebrations. It was the location and most of all the kind reviews that we read that convinced us to stay at Sassi Lucana Matera B&B. What we say is from our own experience, and our experience is based on owning our own B&B and traveling throughout Europe and Asia a number of times. I can say, "Aldo…he is the man." The service he provided us is without doubt top-tier, even far better than what our B&B provides. The accommodations were well thought out, and the fresh foods we had for breakfast were even superior to Whole Foods. Also, he and his grandson Gabriel even picked us up from the bus station. We later met his wife, who shares the same name as my wife. We're not sure if we'll ever make it back to Matera, but the hospitality Aldo showed us was as if we were related. And we now feel the same and hope to keep in touch from time to time.
