The staff was pleasant and nice.
The room was large and very comfortable.
The bathroom was updated adn clean.
Dinner, well if the waitress would have told us about the signature steak, we would have loved the meal. But she pushed the fish special, since we have eaten a lot of fish, we both got the chicken. The chicken was so small and tasteless, a real disappointment. When the other tables steak arrived, the presentation, size and what we hear taste made our meal even worse. The parity of the meals makes no sense.
The walking behind the castle was closed and the walking by the river was muddy.

Castle and soroundings are beautiful reception and restaurant very nice.
The painting needs refreshing, the carpet is worn, some curtains are falling down, and some of the furniture is scratched and damaged. The TV was not working properly, and the bathroom needed more thorough cleaning, especially around the taps. The grout was also dirty and could use a proper deep clean.
For a 4-star hotel, especially in such a beautiful and impressive setting, I expected a much higher standard of maintenance and cleanliness. The scenery and potential are fantastic, but the rooms and facilities need more regular inspection, care and investment to match the 4-star rating.

The historic aspect and how it was related to the armada was lovely. The grounds were nice to walk around. The cafe was fantastic, with excellent staff who couldn’t do enough. The bedroom was comfortable.
Afternoon tea was NOT value for money, it was a different menu to what was booked online. The staff were not present as what they should have been.
Husband was directed to sit on a broken chair , thankfully we noticed as the staff meme er didn’t. The room where you had afternoon tea smelt of foist. Bedroom 3 - the room was nice, however the bathroom was a real let down. Bath was probably a hygiene issue, needs complete revamp. Musty smell in room and over powering smell from fire downstairs .
