View of the Ganges is the best part

The view of the river. The staff were nice.

I know it’s an old building & right on the river but it’s just not even basic clean. The sheets were really scratchy and had a film on them you could feel, almost like a layer of dust.

Awful, unclean experience!!!

I should have cancelled when the hotel didn’t respond to ANY messages, requests for airport collection and trusted my gut instincts - not the best of starts and it just got worse. location was exceptional, the rest was like a nightmare - a true life horror story. I didn’t actually sleep the entire night through noise, and fear I may catch something from the bed and dirty linen. I stayed on the phone with my husband the entire night because I was so afraid. Whoever was working through the night in reception was hoiking up from 4.30am - hearing someone vomit and phlegm up for a solid hour is just disgusting and so off putting - do you not care you have people spending money there AND RESTING!!!??? I checked out after one hellish night without even showering it was that disgusting hair all over the plugs and VERY unclean. Don’t part with your money it would be cleaner and safer to sleep outside on the riverside. I was scammed by the hotel who clearly didn’t bother to clean my room after the previous occupant left and they were happy to take full pay for 3 days when I checked out after 1 through a medical emergency. Thé highlight was leaving. Also watch for touts who will scam you while you try to find this hellhole - I was taken to see ‘Gurus’ and pressured sold Saris, don’t get sucked in they are all working together to skim as much cash from tourists as they can! Booking.com is not letting me upload photos for some reason but I have plenty to upload once it will down to a plug full of pubes, drinks spilled down walls, stained bedding, toiletries with labels peeling off, dirty facilities and excessive staining, rot and if I could upload the stench in the bathroom I would. This hotel either needs to be shut down before someone gets ill or they need to spend money they clearly have on refreshing everything DESPERATELY. Grim grim grim guys, I would advise any single females to AVOID!

Couldn't wish for better experience

Staff. Without exception. From Ajay, to the porters, the restaurant staff, everyone always cheerful and helpful. Organisation. Hotel transfers and walking and boat tours made our lives so easy. Location. Right on the Ganga. View of sunrise over the river from our bed. Easy access to the Ghats. Food. Restaurant on the Rooftop provided the most amazing authentic food. Esp Butter chicken, Murg Lababdar, Crispy potatoes. Service was great too. You must try the lime and soda- with or without sugar. Bed. Lovely comfortable king size bed. Shower. Always hot water and a good shower. Outstanding value for money. Would recommend the Palace on the steps without hesitation.

Bathroom was functional but could do with a little revamp.

Unforgettable stay in Pace on Step

We had an exceptional stay at this hotel. The staffs are very helpful and always talk to us with smile. We needed a medicine at night and one of the staff volunteered to get it. We had a beautiful room with a view of Ganges. It's on top floor and the whole floor with a huge terrace was just for us. I can recommend this hotel anyday.

It's a heritage building... But the look inside does not have that touch.

Good location in old town near the ghats, and some rooms with view to the river. Good breakfast.

The pictures we saw of the bedroom were way better than the actual ones, so we were a bit disappointed. (Not that they were too bad, but we were expenting much better from description and photos). It was much smaller, not so well kept and "balcony" was really an outdoor public corridor

Location is excellent. Toilets and linen were clean. Service in Palace on steps was good. It's an excellent place for young and fit adults. Wouldn't recommend for seniors or young children

Stairs to first floor are very steep and it's a 400 m walk from main road. Climbing down from ghat side is even more difficult. Difficult place for senior citizens. Should make arrangements for bike rides. That shouldn't be too difficult to arrange. Will make it easier for seniors. Currently they provide rides if the bike is available. But no guarantees. Restaurant had limited options at different timings. They did not fulfill a simple request for French fries because some other party was going on. Since getting to main road is again a 400 m walk, it's difficult to find other food options. So, not a great place to stay with young children. Service is very slow in the rooms on ground floor a little away from the property on steps Budget rooms are extremely small. In the corner room, hand touches the ceiling.

Location, staff

Room has a window and a balcony door that had to be kept closed all the time due to monkey issues. Because of this the room became stuffy and we had to use the A/C (an old model with ineffective thermostat) even in the night (when outside temperature was 14degree celicius).

Property location is gold standard with end to end travel assistance.

A heritage property right at the bank of the holy river Ganga at Dashashwamedh Ghat. The spectacular view from the room could not get better than this. Special thanks to Mishraji for his assistance during our stay and to make our trip memorable forever.

You have to walk about a mile to reach the property. But that is the case with all the hotels on the Ghats.

Great location with complete travel assistance

The location is magnificent and the people are extremely courteous. Specially Mishraji assistance with our travel plan was immensely helpful.

No lift, which is understood in a heritage property. Also need to walk about a mile to reach the property from nandi circle. One must contact the hotel before check in so that they can arrange assistance to tow the luggage while checkin.

Super stay in the heart of Varanasi

The view from the room and the restaurant was amazing. The location is very convenient, with walkable access to any landmark in the old town. The stuff is super friendly and willing to help you out with anything. The breakfast was traditional Indian and filling (I took breakfast two days and the Indian part of the buffet totally altered). The room had everything I needed with a luxurious touch on the amenities. Generally a very good stay in the heart of Varanasi. It was exactly what I wanted to experience in my short trip in this magical place!

The room needs a renovation (I totally get that in such old buildings the infrastructure is difficult and super expensive to change but other simple things could give to the place a more fine touch and really upgrade it). The AC was quite noisy disrupting my sleep.

One of the best hotels

The location was superb, and the hospitality just as well. It's almost 100 year old property, very well maintained. The staff were very well behaved & helpful. I would definitely recommend everybody to go & stay there

You need to walk through the famous Varanasi lanes. Though it is said to be Rana Mahal Ghat, it is just beside Darbhanga ghat where Jay baba felunath was shot. Any old person going there should definitely ask the hotel to arrange for a wheelchair, it is too long for an old man to walk through
